Humvee Front X door prep for paint. Really bad door! See if we can save it!

Starting on the front driver side humvee X door! The door is in really horrendous shape, needs a ton of work to get right. Did get some of the door parts painted and clear coated in the video, but I still have work to do on the actual door.
I did get those front doors for 500 bucks! Let’s see if it’s worth getting indoors this rough…

When I deal with "hairy" fiberglass I mix up some resin and use a disposable brush and wipe down all bad areas with a coat of resin to seal all the loose fibers. Hit it with 320 and then 400 grit, repeat the process one more time. This usually seals up all the loose hairs.
Looks like it’s rolling right along, hopefully ready by next spring!

I just recently went through this with my xdoors. I took it a another step and riveted a metal skin on each door which stiffens the door and gives them a sleek look. You can find the door skins that I used online at federal military parts. Good luck and nice video!

I just scuff them up primed, painted and cleared them. I do recommend them, the fitment is pretty good on them. Hopefully they’ll add some protection and cover up any blemishes in the body.

Looking great, that door will require a ton of sweat! Is that kobalt at the end what you use for all your painting?

Yes, the doors going to require a ton of work to get right! It’s actually a harbor freight gun that I’m using, the blue does look like kobalt though

Great work as always. Question, those jack rails seem to be straight and not follow the HMMWV body in the back area( like their is no curve). Do you think that would be a problem if you hit a rock in that area?
