    Love this kind of swatching video! :-) If the wood is splitting, there's a slight chance it's due to the sharpener - it might be worth trying a different one. I have a Faber Castell 9000 and really like it, I use it on Luminance, and I've noticed that the wood does that on my pencils if I fail to empty the sharpener when its full. I also love the Luminance Ultramarine and Olive Yellow colours, and wish they were in the Derwent Lightfast range too!

      Thank you 😁 I've tried every sharpener I have, plus it doesn't explain why the Derwent ones aren't splitting... It's not too bad though so I don't mind 😊 ultramarine and olive yellow are really missing from the Lightfast line!

    This is a very helpful way to help someone drill down on choices, when decision fatigue sets in. Great video, thanks for sharing.

    A helical bladed sharpener, like the Helex desk sharpener, is the best type as it's more gentle on the pencil. Caran D'Ache Luminance pencils shouldn't be splintering, they have excellent quality wood casings. I'd contact their customer suppport as that sounds like a faulty pencil.
    Either that or your sharpener is blunt, try a KUM or an M&R brass double bladed hand sharpener.

      @chromaphile  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did try with several brand new sharpeners (I'm in Germany, so Kum and M&R are kinda standard), I can't be bothered to contact customer support - it's just something I work around now. I hope when I need to replace these the next ones will be better 😊

    A colour that makes my brain happy just by looking at it... A lot of green shades! Especially those darker, but still very saturated greens. A good moss or (dark) sap green makes me extremely happy. Or a more muted forest or pine green... Combined with a yellow ochre... Even thinking about it makes me happy, hahaha.

      Omg I also love a forest green. I love forests and green makes me so happy too

    I don't mean to break up the party, but I'm partial to turquoise green, but it has to lean toward bluegreen where I can't say it's blue or green! I was curious if your pencil sharpener might be too coarse for your luminance pencils? Do you use a two-step pencil sharpener? The first step cuts the wood and the second sharpens the core. While I might choose difference colors, I did revel in your discussion of color choices, and how and why you chose them. Thanks for your post! 💗

      I do like turquoise green too, I think they're both lovely. And my colour preferences have changed over time, I think I used to prefer more green, I might go back one day 😅 I've tried so many different pencil sharpeners and all with the same result sadly. Never mind, they're still nice. And it's always interesting to see which colours other people choose, one of my favourite things!

      @@chromaphile Hello! Have you tried a carpenter's sharpener? I get it that the pencil wood is likely different with Luminance, but it seemed to me that the angle of the rough wood of the pencil you showed was too wide from the side to the point, and that's why I thought to ask about it. I think it's fine that we all like different colors. Each color needs a home on someone's heart after all! ❤

      I've tried every sharpener I can get my hands on and now I have about 7 pencil sharpeners, only one of which I ever use. I don't think it's the sharpener because the same sharpener works perfectly on my Derwent Lightfast

      @@chromaphile Hello! Maybe you might write the company and tell them. Perhaps you got a bad batch. it's Caran D'Ache, right? I'm surprised because normally they are high quality. Maybe they will send you replacements? Doesn't hurt to ask? Also if they know about your channel, they may hop to it! Cheers! ❤

    My favorite colors really depends in my mood. But I am always happy to see teals and aquas. Have you tried Polychromos? They're great oil-based pencils.

      @chromaphile  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah yes I love my polychromos! They're my go to sketchbook pencil (as you can see from my February colour palette video). And indeed, teal and turquoise are so magnetic.

    There is 100% a difference between turquoise blue and turquoise green! Turquoise blue is my preference as well. Cobalt turquoise blue is the color that makes my heart sing 😊. I also really love cool leaning reds and other blues. I have way too many reds and blues and only 3 yellows on my watercolor palette 😂

    • @chromaphile
      @chromaphile  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also find myself not being that picky about yellows, and it's really amazing how many people love turquoise! I do love it too. I'm glad I'm not the only person who's so picky about my turquoises either 😉 thank you so much for the support!!

    Which tin case is that? Looking for a good case to store my extra Caran D’ache Luminance pencils.

    • @chromaphile
      @chromaphile  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a tin I just picked up super cheap in an art store, no brand or anything... I'm sure you could find something similar online. I also have one from Derwent that is slightly less wide but has two layers, I think I prefer that format! Thanks for watching 🥰
