Good choices! Love it. I had to return the 5-year journal, can't use fountain pain, but when you use pencil, can't even read it because the color of the paper is darker than hobonichi or sterling ink's. I probably will get one from Sterling Ink.
you make the best swatching videos on the internet. I completely get into the zone. It's quite psychedelic and I totally relate to the ecstasy you convey. So much fun. some of us just don't need any other drugs. I'd call that a good thing. I' ll watch any and every swatching video you post. How about showing the colors on different papers, or how they mix. Just let them shine and tell us all about them and how you feel about them...... I'll ditch any movie for it.🤩
That's a really lovely palette you got at the end. the colours go together nicely!
@@karonyart it's so much fun putting together limited palettes!
This is art!!! Love it and love this ideas I got a small limited Sennelier palette and one from Roman Szmal and I’m gonna try that
That is so strange! Your Perylene Red Deep (PR179) definitely looks brown, while my pan looks more like a deeper version of PR264 (Pyrrole Rubine in RS/ Ruby Red Deep in Schminke). It's more similar to the Permanent Alizarine Crimson that you have, only even deeper. Could it be a bad batch?
Love the granulation colors.
It's pretty remarkable how adding a 4th unifying color produced a much more vibrant and interesting color wheel. Sometimes, creative blocks bring new ideas to the surface. This could be a very useful tool for planning color palettes to improve color harmony in paintings.
Hey Jules! Please try the light blue in the center color wheel! ❤
And I'm your 50th like! 👍🏼
That was interesting! I love colous and colour mixing, so I really like these videos. 🎨❤️
ETA: I'm not a newsletter type of gal, unfortunately Jules. But I'd make an effort to read yours if it included those delicious mixing recipes! 😂 Those 2am Amazon purchases are all too familiar, Jules, for me!? So I enjoy these swatches and mixing videos. I too have seen other channels mentioned that only swatching isn't art and I disagree. I have created some of my best work after making these kinds of swatching charts. So my feedback for what I'd like to see from you is keep everything the same. I enjoy your art and content as you are! 🫂
A blog or newsletter would be great. Love the idea of a colour chart book too. Definitley something to aim for xxx
If you want to do a newsletter, by all means do one, but keep in mind these little spells of low creativity you're already dealing with (as everyone does) and also the conflicting demands for your time that already exist. Write at least three newsletters ahead of your planned "Send" dates so that a distracted phase or hectic time doesn't make doing a newsletter a torment then. If you've got three ready to go out and get an idea you want to pursue first, fine. Do the hot thought first and keep the waiting three in reserve. Also, think ahead to filler items you can use in the newsletter if something else falls through and keep a list of them handy to glance at. "My Five Favorite______" types of things. Sketch out a few possible starting sentences as you list each item. That will help you remember your idea better and blast you past any writing block. Some people find that breaking off in mid-sentence can help their writer-brain re-engage with the subject when it's time to resume writing. You can also key newsletters to your videos. Maybe you're already there with this thought: You do a video on color charts and say sign up right now to get my newsletter with more information and additional examples of simple color charts you can make to explore what your paints can do. One idea working two ways. Best of luck. Love your videos!
This is all very good and sensible advice. Thank you very much.
Oh, and I would love a newsletter from you. Bye
Hi, Jules! I see you brought home a little sun from your vacation... your hands are tanned 😊 this is good. I've thinking about sharing with you an experience I made some time ago, when I mixed Dragon's Blood, Pbr25 with various granulating colours in my stash and it made the most beautiful mixes I enjoyed doing in a while. I used a Maimeriblu tube, it's an Italian watercolour, but I'm sure your favourite brand carries a similar colour also. Maybe you're in the mood to try your hand with it too... kisses all the way from Brazil to you ❤
Just lovely to see all these colours together, dont they look beautiful.
@@KH-gn3xb it really is such eye candy!
I enjoy creating mixes in my sketchbooks, and then I can go back and study them later. If I do mixes on random pieces of paper, they get lost and forgotten. I like to create paintings from limited palettes of 4 or 5 colours and create colour wheels to analyze which set of colours is best. Posts on your community page would interest me more than newsletters.
@@sararamer-dean7846 thanks for the feedback!! I also like doing that kind of testing of different palettes, in the past I've done them on loose sheets but then put them in display binders, which also works nicely 😊
I love the idea of a color mixing sketchbook! It would make a great reference for actual compositions. You might even come up with ideas while you're doing it! Like, "Ooo! That mix would be perfect for a *x,y,z*!"
@@bnhietala Yesss that's exactly my thinking!!
I really like this video but I didn't try to draw with pen before and here is my question You drew directly with pen or you drew with pencil first?
i really love how you curate your collection for the coming year! it's just so 🌟aesthetic🌟

@@tortagialla thanks for the lovely comment 😍 it's so satisfying to have everything matching, plus it gives something to look forward to next year!
All your color coding the ink to your pens is making me go, "Ah maybe I should do this too."
@@southern_archeologist it's the only way I can do it, it feels wrong to put an ink in a pen if it doesn't at least vaguely match the vibes
I love the yellows!
I enjoy seeing what other artists travel with. My goodness those Holbein pencils are gorgeous colours and look lovely and creamy. I recently got a little travel set of luminance colours and see the Holbein would be great additions too. I love how compact your travel set is and has everything you need really.
It’s nice seeing your choices, especially as I have a lot of Perylene greens and violets from sets but I’m unsure about using them. I think because I avoid blacks that I haven’t mixed and I lean towards earths as I’m in love with natural earth pigments in all their glorious shades. I must give these Perylenes a chance! It would be helpful as you talk of your favourites what you find them useful for in terms of subject matter.
Hi! Would you please be willing to tell me if you know of any other places besides Jackson’s to find Roman Szmal watercolor sets? I’ve looked through all the palette sets offered and can’t find specific greens I’ve seen you swatch! I’d love to find a 48-set somewhere and be on a list to know when they’re releasing new sets. Thank you!
im confused, what is the number for carmine pigment? been doing some research but still cant find it really
I found that the Indanthrone blue looks the same form Daniel Smith and Schmicnke, but the Schmicke paints are generally more buttery when they come out of the tube, whereas the daniel smith ones keep they shape and need to be wrestled into the pan.
40:15 Doesn't really... Madder!
My palette would be Quinacridone Gold + Indanthrone blue + Perylene Maroon. Instant autumnal vibes 🍁
Beautiful mixes! I love this selection of four colors - they're so versatile!
Wow your mixes are so beautiful. I really need to experiment more with mixing my palette colors. I love love love red shades and I must have like 15 different variations of red watercolors and I’m going to experiment 😊. Thank you for sharing . The beautiful gray you created reminded me so much of the Daniel Smith neutral tint 😊.
@@Soapartisan875 thank you so much for the lovely comment, have a great time playing with you colours! I always love to hear about people's favourite mixes!
11:00 ❤ this pencil! Different sizes have different colours in those notches. Mine is 0.3 and the notches are brown, 0.7 is turquoise. It's easy to pick out what you need from a pile of pencils.I paid 10€ for it, and its totally worth it. Thanks again for the recommendation. I will look into the Pentel pencil shaped eraser, it is small and narrow. Just what I need. Thanks again for this art kit tour!
Mina Perhonen doesn’t use real leather unfortunately, it’s PU. I returned one of my covers because of this. Wish it was leather. I ended up getting the Twinkle Tweed for 2024 and 2025 I ordered the Leather Water Green. Love the mint green colour
@@ChanelthePomston ah okay, thanks for the correction, though it's not a deal-breaker for me thankfully! The twinkle tweed is also so gorgeous
Fabulous video! I really love the grey you got in the first part. Thanks for sharing, and congratulations on your channel growth! 🌻
Thank you so much, it does feel like an achievement! and the grey really is so nice with these colours, indeed...
Why Roman Szmal's Autumn Green, of course, mixing with its single-pigment components, Cobalt Green Deep (PG26), Quin Magenta (PR122), and Nickel Azo Yellow (PY150)! 😄Great video, thank you!
Can't go wrong with that paint, it is so beautiful!
I would love it to be autumn here. The light has changed but the temperatures remain over 100°F. 38C. I’m melting here in Arizona and sure do miss the 4 seasons in Germany. Enjoyed the video. You opened my eyes to the ease you achieved the browns. I always struggle with that. Thanks.
I definitely also used to struggle, and then I finally learned how and it felt like something clicked so thought I'd share in case it helps others! And indeed, the desert is rather unforgiving when it comes to climate...
I’ve tested a few of my Prussian blues to see if and how much they changed, and to check if they come back when put in the dark. And they did! One of them changed quite a bit but went back to its original glory after some time in the dark. It’s quite wild. Lovely palette, and yes I’d want the pyrrole orange, too 😊
Such a crazy pigment!
Lovely mixes! That green is delicious
Yesss all of them really are
5:18 I want to too 😂. PO71 is such a gorgeous colour. I love it for just being it, but it is such a versatile paint.
