Watched that video with mixed emotions. Brings back the many rides and banter I had over those same roads with my best mate and cycling buddy. Sadly the sands of time are pouring that little bit faster and we rarely ride with each other these days. I’d struggle over those climbs now but it would be a none starter for my mate who although still rides, he does it sedately due to a heart problem. So the message is go ride those beautiful roads while you can and cherish the memories as you get older. Great videos ladies, thank you.
@ Thanks for the comment Juliet. He’s got an E bike and we had the pleasure of a couple of steady rides a few weeks ago when we met up in France for a few days. We used to ride together a lot in Yorkshire and did LEJOG back in the 90’s. So many great memories and a lifelong friendship that started through meeting as kids at the local cycling club. Keep up the great work on your channel, thank you.
I do all my cycling on my gravel bike as I can only afford one. Commuting, bike packing, keeping up with my road cycling club, hill climb competitions and triathlons! Would love a road bike too but it’s not a reality on a low income!
I do the same with mine. It's great! I also have a basic, but durable wheel set second hand to fit nice road slicks. It's much faster, durable and nicer on the road, and saves the knobs for the crucial terrain.
@@MentalHealthJourney Yes, if you do a lot of road riding. The bike feels totally different and goes a lot faster. Off road tyres don't last long on the road either. A good set of aluminium wheels costs less than 150 second hand. I would get the same wheel brand, otherwise the hub disc rotor spacing might be different. And then you need to realign calipers for a wheel swap, which isn't great.
I’m with you Katie, manual shifters and rim brakes. Why fix something that’s not broken, simple can be repaired in the field as it where. Love you two doing rides together, when are you coming to the North Yorkshire moors. For one of your epic rides have you thought of Switzerland. Keep up the good work you two .
I've watched your videos for years but never commented. But today I must. I've cycled the Yorkshire Dales and visited that massive railway bridge you show near the end of this video. I loved it there - spent several days but liked Dartmoor as well (ridden on a different trip over). I live in Texas but have a good friend who lives in Seaford, and we rode those places together as well as the Peak District - all provide fantastic cycling!!
High Hill Lane is that mega steep road out of Settle you took. I can't even get the whole way up and it's not even a challenge for you guys, mad respect!
Oh such fun seeing you both interact, love it. Those views are epic, no denying that! I do have to agree with Katie, I'm "save the rim brake" all the way :-)
Disc brakes are by far superior to rim brakes for many reasons. I have one bike I use for everything. It’s a gravel bike with endurance road geometry. Handles well on or off the road. Unless you’re road racing, one by with 11, 12, or 13 speed is adequate. With an 11-42 cassette and a 40 tooth front chain ring it handles almost all situations. The 40x42 low gear is lower than most two by systems. I’m spun out at 30mph on the high gear. Gravel bikes are really the Swiss Army knives of bicycles. I have two sets of wheels, one for the road and one for gravel.
Only thing I am going to say : yes! You two should really fly away togheter and attempt one of those _ride across_ series of hers Katie; I would suggest an outlandish destination, Italy is exotic enough, maybe the southern region of Bavaria in Germany might do; certainly, riding across Switzerland would really be marvellous and mysterious too! Indeed, I can see why the Dales lend themselves to cycling, wide open, fierce and untamed, with little if any traffic and smoothly run pavement that twists and turns among the peaks and the valleys; A shout to freedom and bravery. No better feeling of dismounting your bikes and heading for a warm, cosy night after so much faff and labour. Privileged to see you two content and cheerful togheter ! 😁 😄 👏🤞 👋 = ]
I agree with you, Katie is wrong about rim brakes. I agree with Katie, some things are meant to be and may have prevented you from crossing a nasty unknown. Seeing that car coming around the bend, and you two on the left side of the road, messed with me. American viewer, here. The cameras and filters must be a special interest. You two make good videos together. I'll be looking forward to you two riding those hills you missed out on this time. Or, anytime before then.
Sometimes when you fit larger diameter more tooth cassettes, you may need a derailleur extender piece otherwise when in lowest gear ratio theres insufficient clerence for the upper derailleur idler sprocket 😊👍
I felt bad for you having electronic shifting issues but glad to see it on a video. While no Luddite, I wonder why electronic shifting even is needed aside from a marketing ploy? Please don't have someone tells me how great shifting is. Yeah, when it works. It still needs adjusting occasionally and if you switch wheels it will be off just like indexed set ups. Actually on my gravel bike with a a 1X, I have been running a friction bar end shifter. It does not care what wheels I have on the bike which I switch depending on the terrain. It is easier than changing tires. On my other more road / touring bike I have a mechanical 12 speed Campy but have a Renee Herse subcompact crank set to lower the gearing. Unlike Katie, I do like my disc brakes but there are mechanical versions of those too that will work great. No bleeding is ever needed. I may switch my gravel bike to mechanical brakes from the hybrids I have now. Once after leaving my bike hung up vertically when away, I almost crashed when I got on it as there was air in the line for the front brake. Function over form please especially if not living above a bike store or being way out in the country where the best riding will likely be.
Lovely countryside and two lovely women to narrate the trip. A few thoughts: I'd go with the rim brakes any day. The camera-filter guy reminds me of the Monty Python skit of the touring cyclist droning on about how he protects his cucumber sandwiches in case of a crash. Juliet; have you considered using a stick to mount the camera? Leonard M Lee has some useful tips on filming while riding. He's a cameraman by trade I think.
A very basic but incredibly important question... I'm newish to cycling but where you are, but whilst you were both inside having breakfast, I know it's not going to happen as there's only 5 people max in total, BUT how did you lock up your bikes, or rather how do you normally lock them
Hi Juliet Katie mentioned on her YT earlier, before she wrapped up, that you had sucumbed to a injury :( Something to do with a elbow, she didn't elaborate too much. Hope it wasn't caused by some "fruit bat" knocking you off the "horse" Just to wish you a speedy recovery, rest well ☀️ 🌴🦋
Thank you, yes that’s right but I’d already made a couple of vids and scheduled them. I’m currently in hospital and it’s my 7th day here! More updates soon
One of the nefarious limiting factors with rim brakes _not_ actually the brakes but, rather, the braking surface on _carbon_ rims-that's just a bad combination. With the right wheels, dual pivot rim brakes work great, even at Shimano 105 level.

Glad it brought back happy memories. Could your friend consider an ebike so they have some assistance? Just a thought

Miles of smiles. 7:32 captures the moment. You two are such a giggle especially when you are in the same video and riding together.
Yorkshire. Can’t bloody beat it 💪 🤪
@@ruperttristanblythe7512 boo! 👎
I'm 5 minutes into the video and I've discovered the definition of "faffing around"! I love watching the both of you together!
Faffing is my middle name 🤷♀️😂 Thank you
I just love the vibe with the two of you. Such good times with friends. Proper feel good stuff☺️
These two girls together is always fun. Very beautiful environment.
I love the disc brakes on my gravel bike 😉
You two make me laugh 😂😂😂 Dear Juliet, I think you can be a bit of a preparation nightmare at times 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Stuck at home with shingles & this joyous film cheered me up hugely. Thank you !
Glad you enjoyed it! Hope you’re feeling better

SRAM Rival 22 FTW on my road bike. Mechanical shifting and tubes rule. :) Beautiful ride, glad you could have fun!
mech shift , tubes ... and discs
So beautiful landscape and roads

Only 16 mins and 20 seconds of this, it's just not enough, we all need more. Such fun to watch you both. 😊
Thinking about you every day. Know it's a tough time. Keep fighting! You will be better.

I Miss the dales
Mechanical ftw!
Don't you just love electric shifting! For me mechanical is currently far better for reliability - even on my e-bike!

I've driven a few trains over that viaduct! Big fan of you both❤❤
As a dad of two daughters it’s great there are such good role models out there for them. Thank you. 🙏
So sorry to hear of your injury (from Katie K) get well soon.
Thanks George
You two make my day brighter! ❤
what a duo.. love the quick flat change.. and get on with the mechanical ditch the electic lOl I have enough things to keep charged :-)

Great video!! Lovely places.... but I was also expecting to see the beers at the pub 😅
I watch this to inspire me and help me get out the door. :)
☺️
You two are such fun to watch, lovely scenery too. But, Katie you didn’t say hello to the Sheepies.
Made me laugh when you said you weren’t doing Park Rash; just Fleet Moss then plus you’d already done the climb out of Settle which is a brute 😂
We also rode the next day and she routed us straight up that hill out of Settle again! 😂

Great video! …..Yorkshire is made for cycling 😁
Thank you. Sure is
Nice video girls, where did you get your glasses from Juliet? Are the clear lenses prescription?
Note: a GRX 2x11 drivetrain works with an 11-42 cassette. That way you have a huge gear range and tiny smallest gear.
One more reason to use mechanical everything INCLUDING RIM BRAKES 😊
No tubeless setup either
Please don't fanny or faff around 😂😂

Electronic shifting? NO! Hydraulic breaks? NO! Save me from too much tech.
hydraulic brakes are fantastic
14:44 did katie comment on that rock ? she likes rocks ,no harm in that 😅
Remember, Juliette, if you've promised to give the Dales a 'go' next year, that means you can't sabotage your bike a second time around! Bill O'
🤫🙃 methinks the "reason" you had all these problems was b/c _your bikes_ knew you didn't want to ride the whole ~3000 meters. You two are too funny.
Pretty much!
Super….
Rim brakes !!!
👍👍🇮🇳🇮🇳❤❤ Kerala South India
Disc brakes = good, wireless group set = rubbish!
Only mechanical shifting ever for me.
