  • We're moving on to the compounding stage. As part of that process, we're trying out some new cordless tools from FLEX along with our trusted RUPES polishers. The paint is in decent shape but needs some love. Billy and Gabe from Presidential Automotive Detailing are here to help me knock the GT3 RS out.

    I have to say I am liking the new style of the videos, especially production value. However, I miss the lengthy videos as well, part of why I love Obsessed Garage so much is sometimes the going over of every minute detail. Maybe the next video will show it, but something like figuring out the wing, and how they came to the suggestions they came to, is something very interesting to me. I understand we don't need to stare at someone polishing for two hours, but the wing is definitely something I was interested to see as well as any other "trouble spots" that came up during the compounding stage.

    While I don’t mind the music over “B” roll, I will say that my preference is the voice over you are now doing as it does offer insight and ultimately delivers more “content” for those of us who find all this interesting. Great video! Wish it was longer.

    hey Matt, good points made by saying, somwhere you need to draw a line. The classic detailing dilemma, as it was called by Larry from AMMO. You wait on the little Flex PXE 80 I assume? I tell you, you will be amazed by the performance, balance and power this little fella has. I sold my iBrid and Rupes 75E after I tried out the PXE 80 on 3 diffrent Cars. It really is that good of a maschine. Flex has huge problems meeting the big demand, I hear of people had to wait for more than 3 months for their order. A little side note: the Kit provided by Flex doesn't contain a 2 inch backing plate. The guys from APS (autopflege-shop.de) produced a good backing plate with the exact weight for that (APS PRO FP50). They even offer their own extensions (APS PRO FV50) and adapter (APS PRO FVA50) to enhance the user experience for the PXE 80 even more!

    Stick with the forced rotation, you need to understand it’s a completely different machine, pad choice and compound choice are essential, Scholls range of compounds are good as they tend to have more lube, also give the Mille compounds a try. I have the flex XCE and it’s my workhorse.

      All factory paint is miserable. You can see large areas of orange peel on $240,000 plus AMG black cars on eBay photos.

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Orange peel is there for a reason. It masks imperfection in the metal and panel gaps.

    • @Shawn-ne6ld
      @Shawn-ne6ld 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Obsessed Garage Topaz detailing does an awesome job on orange peel. They get customer cars from the dealership and do paint correction/protection removing 99% of the orange peel since they have to remove 6-8 microns from the clear coat to get it out. Result is glass smooth mirror like finish even with protective film on all painted/carbon fiber surfaces. They just got in 3 911 GT3’s built the same time from the factory to paint correct. All had several issues for picky people. They also did custom carbon fiber for all the exterior factory plastic parts, hood vents, rockers, front trim, rear behind the wheel vents and engine covers/vents. Truest one of the best paint protection companies in the business. Don’t want to know what it costs since most of their customer cars are 100’s of thousands to many millions of dollar cars.

    the cordless XFE is pretty under powered!! if you hold it by the battery its easier to manage! the XCE actually has plenty of torque. you said you dont like how it "darts around everywhere" if you hold the pad perfectly flat, you wont have that problem! but the cordless is a game changer!!

    Why aren’t you measuring paint thickness or gloss readings before?

    • @stevenyoon3867
      @stevenyoon3867 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For one, most measuring tools have to be taken with a grain of salt. I don't think there's a device or product out in the market right now that could give you true 100% reading of the paint thickness and gloss. It's all relative. I think it'll help give you an idea if you don't know the car paint's history but for this car, Matt bought this brand new so he there's less guess work. It certainly doesn't hurt to have a baseline, but at the same time, it's certainly not warranted for every correction imo.

    • @eightwheels2114
      @eightwheels2114 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevenyoon3867 There is so much discussion about clear coat. They are concerned about knocking it down and here they don't measure it. I know its impossible to discern clear mills alone. But I just thought it would be nice to map out the levels. And gloss readings, a gloss meter would be helpful. Its hard to see the differences on video, with a white car.

  • @Shawn-ne6ld
    @Shawn-ne6ld 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    TH-camr Schmee150 has all his high dollar cars trucked from the dealership to a professional paint correction company for a thorough paint correction, deep clean, polish and clear wrap on every inch of paint, carbon fiber, headlights, etc. His GT3 had a lot of imperfections (orange peel, swirls, hairline scratches, etc) and he said if factory new cars had perfect paint the cost would skyrocket over the already $200,000 plus prices. The Ford GT surprisingly had some of the best factory paint.

    If I’m not mistaken, Flex markets that free spinning DA as a finisher and the forced rotation for cutting. It’s literally what their catalog states. That’s why it feels like it’s not rotating enough because it’s really meant for the final polish or jeweling step.

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't like that idea.

      4FOUR1 ONE5FIVE I’m not mobile or do it for a living just on the side once or twice a week. I just hate cords. I tried all the new cordless flex tools at autogeek last year and I liked the forced rotation but the free spinning DA had no balls so to speak. There is no comparison to an LHR15/21 MKIII. I have a Mille (that I got from OG)to compare it to and the new Flex forced rotation is much smoother and quieter actually.

      Obsessed Garage I keep hearing about how good this compounding polish is. With Jescar, I have also heard some say they have had some paints finish down so well during the compounding stage that we didn't even need to perform finish polishing. Did you find that to be the case with this compounding session? And did you only use a microfiber cutting type pad? Is the Jescar correcting compound a product that you only use a cutting pad with and then need to switch to a finishing polish with a finish pad? Thx Matt.

    Hi Matt , I have the Flex cordless machines , The batteries last a long time there is no issue with that but the 15 takes a bit to get used to it’s an excellent machine , Having the freedom without the damn cord is worth it , I have a small spot we’re I work and when I blow the pads I don’t have unplug anymore , and don’t have worry about tripping or paint scuffs from the cord anymore,
    To bad you didn’t get the 3”/1” machine that machine I’m sure you will love , just the on/off switch is weird , you have to push down on the front edge of the switch and then up , takes a bit to get used to then it becomes 2nd nature
