Many friends growing up in Melbourne would pack into the car with the family and drive to the Gold Coast for school holidays. Myself, I have driven from Melbourne to Uluru to Darwin for a holiday. Australians are not opposed to a 2-3 hour drive to drop in for lunch with a mate.
I mean if you need to go to somewhere like from Perth to Melbourne, for work or week holiday, you’d fly but if you want to see the country along the way and take your time, you’d drive.
Australia has 6 states and 2 territories, you can drive to all of them Except Tasmania which is the smallest state separated by the bass strait, just under the mainland. When you look at the Australian map you will see a little upside down triangle island beneath the mainland, that is Tasmania.
When I was a child my dad would pack up the car and the trailer and we would drive around the US for four weeks, camping and visiting the sites in different parts of the country. We loved it.
I live in South Australia and it’s definitely a mix of the two for travel preference! Road trips are a huge thing here and we have a very popular route called the Great Ocean Road that goes all along the coast! Most of the time it’s cheaper to drive from Adelaide (where I live) to Melbourne because of petrol costs compared to flights!
@@ThisWithThem when you make it to Australia great Ocean road will take a good part of a day to do. If you don't get tempted to stay some where on the road. Also roads very windy.
The cost of flights is not cheap like where you, when we lived in Cairns we drove to Brisbane, 17 hours. We made it easier by stopping twice for a nights stay. When I was a child we could get wizz fizz in a paper tube with a liquorice, you used the liquorice to get the wizz fizz.
Just found your TH-cam channel I am from Australia I am settled in Melbourne at the moment and I have travelled all around Australia backpacking twice it’s awesome to see all different areas of your own country love it
Best way to eat a tim tam is, bite the ends off each end, then use it like a drinking straw to drink the tea or coffee, be quick as it will melt then eat the rest. Send love from Australia
From an Australian, we travel by plane. Flights are so much cheaper than fuel, accommodation stop overs, car maintenance and all other costs associated with the long drives. Also a lot of Australia is a desert without access to facilities (especially if travelling from the east to the west).
I’m from Brisbane QLD, and I have to say domestic plane travel in Australia is VERY expensive - you often see people road tripping it around Australia. Plus, Australia does not have many domestic Airports (between 1 and 3 per state) so you can’t really travel via plane.
Hi Kate and Alex, Hope you all are well! Wow! Another great box from Australia! You guys are so blessed to try all these amazing treats. Have a great week!
I live in Queensland, too but it’s about a 9 hour drive from where I live to Townsville. If you wanted to drive from the very south of QLD to the very top it would be about 33 hours of straight driving. Mostly I fly as I don’t like driving long distances but my friend once drove from Sydney to Townsville.
Ive done the drive to the top of Cape York, it took a couple of weeks. You cant really drive the trip straight through, particularly not if you want your vehicle to survive the trip. The road past Cooktown is incredibly corrugated and rough, its a seasonal dirt road which is only open during the dry season. Distance wise it might seem like a shorter trip but not something you'd want to do in reality.....besides, there are some awesome spots to stop and camp along the way and the journey is a big part of the fun of the trip. Apart from the novelty of being at the northern most point of the country there isnt a whole hell of a lot to do when you get there.
I recently moved from Perth to Sydney and drove across with my Partner and our dog. I recommend everyone do the drive at least once, there is so much to see and do and depending on the time of year it can be a real eye opener. Driving it also allows you to play on the world's longest golf course spanning out 1365km over 2 States for something different 🙂
I’m from Townsville & when we travel we often make it a holiday to go that far. Sometimes we book flights but they can be quite expensive from Townsville as it’s quite small :)
That's amazing!! I don't think many people here would think that way! Make's me realise I should do more day trips and travel to some places a little further away from me!!
Most people fly from one side to another because realistically it takes like 4 hours. I live in Melbourne and driving to townsville is a 3-4 day drive with stops over night. Driving to Perth is 2-3 days
I'm from Newcastle in New South Wales (Australia). Flying is quicker and easier, but sometimes, depending how far you're travelling, a roadtrip can be probably more fun. Good company, good snacks, and good music are a must.
Not looking through all the comments to see if anyone commented on Superstore.. the show just aired it's last episodes in America this year. I only started watching it months ago (pretty sure they brought out one season a year) and I've only got the last season to watch.
I’m from the central coast in nsw and every couple of years my family drives over to Perth to see family. We sightsee on the way so it takes us just under a week to drive.
I live in Perth and have driven to Melbourne once but flown dozen of times. A drive across the country is very much and adventure, not just travel: there’s not much in between! I took a full week to get over, taking out time and stopping in the tiny towns, drove back in three days with long drives.
Wizz Fizz used to be in a bag with the top folded into a triangle and stuck down. It had a hollow tube of liquorice inside so you could suck the sherbet up through it. We also had sherbet cones with marshmallow tops that looked like ice cream. They also had a liquorice tube poking out of the marshmallow.
The sherbet with the liquorice inside isnt wizz fizz.....cant remember the brand off hand but wizz fizz has always come in the little packets with a spoon.....or at least it has for the entirety of my 53 years.
Haha my TH-cam suggestion showed me your first video from 4 years ago and it is amazing and fun to see how much you all have changed . Thanks for bringing some fun into these stay at home Covid days
Strawberries and Cream, Raspberries, ILK bottles, Bananas, Snakes, etc, are some of Allens lollies. Lifesavers do have a hole in the middle. The one exception is the Fruit Tingles. Regular Lifesavers are based on translucent fruit flavours.
It's a good 3-3 1/2 day drive across Canada, and that's with no stops Our Marvelous Creations bars in Canada are portrait oriented as well We have a version of the sherbet in Canada called Lik'M'Aid. It comes with a candy stick to dip into the powder which you can eat after. It was a huge thing back in the late 80's early 90's when I was a kid.
Woah!!!! But that is so amazing you can drive it!! Funny ours are landscape then! The Lik'M'Aid sounds a lot like something we also had. Very popular also back in the 90's!!
I'm Australian and usually choose to fly rather than drive. The reference to "there's no substitute" is the Arnott's brand slogan. Years ago their slogan was "there is no substitute for quality".
I was thinking the same in my first video i watch of them but quickly realise their relationship look more like siblings relationship rather then a couple ..also once in a while they tell stories about their childhood ...
We have that 5 gum too in Germany, I remember at some point, when I was 15 or 16, it was new and everybody was totally obsessed with it. It was kind of cool or fancy to have them, especially since (for me at least) its a pit pricey for the few pieces you get compared to other brands. But the flavors are great. I remember loving the watermelon
I'm from Adelaide, South Australia. When I was a young lad, we would regularly go on a picnic to Victor Harbour; when my dad would say this to his British workmates, they would look amazed that we would travel that far just for a picnic. Back in the 50's and early 60's, it would take well over an hour to drive there on a two lane road; nowadays, with expressways and road widening, it probably takes about half that time.
I live in Melbourne Victoria and my dads family lives in Bundaberg Queensland.. It's a 2 day drive from us to them and we have done it many many times, it's a beautiful drive if you stop along the way
I have been watching your videos for a while now and I find myself in the store shopping thinking I bet Kate and Alex would like this! Wish I could send you guys a box from Minnesota USA. Love you guys see you next week!
2:53 a neighbour had some visitors from the UK, back in the ‘70s, and wanted to take them to Ballarat from Melbourne, which is a day trip for us (134 km)n the visitors were shocked it wasn’t an overnight trip!😅
I am from Sydney and would always catch a plane to Perth.. a lot of people road trip to Queensland through because the trip in itself is amazing and has lots of coastal towns and places you can stop at
You can drive or fly depending on the time of year (and how good your car is!) If it’s not school holidays flights across Australia are pretty cheap, but if you’re like my parents and keen for an 18 hour driving day from Victoria to Queensland then go for it! A lot of families take a couple of months off when their kids are young and drive around the country!
I live on the Gold Coast in QLD currently. I'm originally from Victoria. Most of the time when my family goes to Vic, we'll drive. My school is doing a ski trip next year and I'm going on it. It's an 18-hour bus drive to our tallest mountain from the school. I cannot wait. From the Gold Coast to Victoria, it's a 2-day drive, typically. With all the stops included.
Sometimes the trip is the vacation. My husband and I love to take road trips. One I have never done is clear across the US, but I certainly would love that.
I’m from Tulsa Oklahoma and our ALDI will sometimes have biscuits that are like Tim tams and they are really good. The salted caramel one and double chocolate ones are really good. And cheap cause it’s ALDI
Ive had the ALDI version of Tim Tams......once. Never again......Ive never tasted a "version" of Tim Tams that was equal to, let alone better than, Tim Tams.
I'm really from the American in the USA and I'm legally in American person and I really love your support and happinesses and your family and you kaite and Alex I love your your TH-cam channel and your TH-cam videos and I am a cazy very true fan of yours and TH-cam channel and videos love you guys so very much Donna Hayes
I live in Western Australia and 21 years ago my husband, two children, and I, drove from Melbourne to Western Australia. It can take 3 days to do this trek. Flying only takes about 4 hrs.
When you asked about the flying or driving to places my family drives sometimes flies others. It all just depends on money. It is a lot cheeper to drive then fly.
Depends on the location in Australia as to what mode of transport I take. I'm from a spot half way between Sydney and Brisbane, and flights from my location are expensive, so we mostly drive to Brisbane/Queensland. But fly to Melbourne, Adelaide etc.
On the Tim Tams the sentence “ There is no substitute “ was originally an advertising slogan, “ There is no substitute for quality” . This referred to all of the Arnotts brand biscuits but has since been shortened and I believe is only now on the Tim Tams.
Sugar is different from country to country probably depending on climate. Also, in America, it used to be expensive because they had to import it from Mexico and the cocoa beans from places within the Caribbean. America's chocolate is also different because of the milk they use. Brands like Hershey's use UTC (Long Life Milk) to give longer shelf life which also makes it taste different. This is because they aren't as close to dairy farm suppliers.
Im from South Australia and tasmania is still a state in australia even though it is off the coast and also your meant to try and rip the mintie wrapper as long as you can with out it tearing apart and ive never seen anyone with a 5. Hope this helped from down under🇦🇺💚
I live in south Australia, halfway across from Sydney to Perth and we have so many travellers driving that route, across the great ocean road and the Nullarbor. To get to Adelaide South Australia’s main city it is a 5.5hour drive and we drive that often, doing day trips sometimes too.
You also must pass the ball within 3 seconds. I have seen Goal Shooters take a one step dunk; but then they were well over 6ft tall. I actually came across a video from 1937, and was amazed that the umpire threw the ball down at the centre pass; when my sister played netball, it was referred to as 7 aside basketball(1960's).
About your question on distance in australia.Im from mt isa in north western queensland.we used to do long weekend trips to townsville for partying on weekends.A couple of times each year .4 day long weekend friday to monday .its 903 klm
I’m from Australia and back in March this year, my partner, sister and I drove from Perth to Wangaratta(county town in Victoria), took us just over 2 days! Was an amazing trip
Fun fact about the health star ratings: they are based off categories of food ie, all chips/crisps are ranked based off each other so even though they aren’t typically the healthiest food if they have the best macros compared to other chips they get a high ranking. So you can’t trust the stars as it doesn’t actually equate to health.
Hi! Aussie here🇦🇺 we definitely do drive long distances but I find it’s definitely a different kind of holiday. If you just want to go on a holiday to a specific location that is in a different state most people will catch a plane. However if you want to go to multiple cities then you’d usually take a car to do a kind of road trip. However it also depends on whethef you want to hire a car on your holiday because you may as well just drive yours
I live in Australia. Last month my kids and I drove from the New South Wales/Victorian border all the way to Bundaberg Queensland and it took us two days. It’s about 1600km and about 18 hours drive. We love flying but it’s too costly (about $2500 return for the four of us) where as driving costs less than $1000 return.
In Australia it really depends on how much time you have, sometimes you might fly but then you miss all the little places that truly are beautiful, hope you enjoy the Aussie treats ❤️ Yes there are other brands that replicate Arnotts biscuits but they are just not as good, hence the saying on the pack ‘There’s no substitute’ 😀 @16:05 is the correct pronunciation of Darrell Lea
Yes that is so true! If you can afford to take more time driving means you get to see some places you would miss along the way in the air! We loved them, thank you 💕 Other brands that do dupes just never get them as good do they!! Thank you!!!
Kate sometimes mouth ulcers respond to a 2-3 day dosage of lysine. In the USA road trips are a thing due to the potential of roadside attractions. If you're limited on holiday/vacation time then air travel would be considered, but you would have to rent/taxi/Uber/Lyft to get around at you destination...so an additional cost.
Yes I have a Belgian friend who went for a Sunday drive 4 hrs multiple countries but I live in Victoria Australia and 4 hrs doesn’t even get me out of my state and Victoria is a small state.
i live in Sydney , Australia and majority of us drive to one of the most popular places in Queensland... the Gold Coast, and it takes 12 hours to drive and 1 hour on a plane !
hello from the states...when we go to Vermont, we just drive there because it's just a 4 hour drive (Sometimes 5.5 if the high way is closed) but we always drive, even when we go to Boston, next time I go to NYC I will take the bus or train (it's quite scary to drive in the city) We get Caberys here too, but it's not as good apperently and not sold all year round? (At least the good easter ones arent) I love sun chips! we also have mentos here but i don't like them either.
hello 😀 That's so cool you can get to Vermont that quickly!! My sister once took a coach trip from LA to vegas so cool you can get busses!! Sun chips are soo good! Glad you love them too
Try biting the ends off the Tim Tam then put one end in your tea and drink the tea through the biscuits, do it quick then eat the biscuit, it melts in your mouth.
Sun Bites are branded as Sun Chips in the United States. It’s similar to Lay’s/Walker’s as they’re all the same company - Frito-Lay, whose parent company is PepsiCo. In the US, Sun Chips are made by Lay’s, in the UK/Ireland, Sunbites are made by Walker’s, and in Australia, Sunbites are made by Smith’s, all under the PepsiCo umbrella. Also, Superstore is over. Its finale was a couple of months ago.
I'm not far into the video yet, but just wanted to say that I loved those garlic bread doritos but I found to get the most flavour from them you had to keep it your mouth before you bit into it. Or lick it off first. It just didn't seem to have the same flavour amount if I just munched straight into them.
Regarding sherbet/sorbet - we actually have both! Sherbet has a small amount of cream or milk, and sorbet does not! Driving distances for trips - I live in East Texas, about 90 minutes from Louisiana border. If I were to drive from the LA/TX border, to Texas New Mexico border, it would take 14-16 hours, depending on how fast you drive, traffic, and how many times you have to stop. Lol. Years ago my best friend and I drove from the town we live in straight through to Las Vegas and it took 22 hours.
Oh thank you Lona! Didn’t realise you had both. Are they both a frozen “ice cream” style or do you have candy sherbet? Oh wow. What a fun trip that must have been with your friend. So cool you could drive to Vegas from where you live. I just find that so amazing!!!
@@ThisWithThem yes, they are both frozen! I never k ew there were candy sherbets! I am a total candy-holic and y’all have had me goin crazy tryin to find new things I’ve never tried! Sadly, there are tons that I can’t get because the cost/cost conversion/shipping. I was looking at one of the Cadbury marvelous treats on Amazon - $15+$10.99 shipping! Equals £18.31! :( The road trip to Vegas was an absolute blast and one of the best memories with my bestie! We ended up driving the 4-5 hrs to LA a few days later and then drove straight back to East Tx after that. So fun but totally exhausting! Lol

It is with the paper wrapper!

Every spearmint Lilly or cheque I sneeze! Watermelon chewy is my favourite.
They all look good hope everyone has a great day or night
Sometimes the trip is the vacation. My husband and I love to take road trips. One I have never done is clear across the US, but I certainly would love that.
Yes you're so right!! Make the journey a part of the trip and enjoy the travel!
I’m from Tulsa Oklahoma and our ALDI will sometimes have biscuits that are like Tim tams and they are really good. The salted caramel one and double chocolate ones are really good. And cheap cause it’s ALDI
How good!! 😍
Yes, Kate. Sun Chips. Very popular brand in the US
They’re so delicious 😋 I remember loving them thanks for confirming 😀
I live in QLD & Townsville is still a 15hr drive.
Wow!!
You guys have had so much candy and sweets that you are going bonkers and throwing lollies around. 🤣🤣🤣
haha 😂 we are 😂
I drive straight through from ontario canada to orlando florida without stopping and its 24 hours
Wow! That is so cool!! Amazing you can just drive that!
@@ThisWithThem did you know that you can drive from Alaska to Argentina
I live in Western Australia and 21 years ago my husband, two children, and I, drove from Melbourne to Western Australia. It can take 3 days to do this trek. Flying only takes about 4 hrs.
When you asked about the flying or driving to places my family drives sometimes flies others. It all just depends on money. It is a lot cheeper to drive then fly.
Oh i love Aussie goodies and i see one of my faves there sitting in the box! Yay looking forward to watching this. Your reviews are great
Thank you Helen! Hope you enjoy watching this video. Australia really does have some delicious goodies 😋
I always get this excited about their videos also !!!
Depends on the location in Australia as to what mode of transport I take. I'm from a spot half way between Sydney and Brisbane, and flights from my location are expensive, so we mostly drive to Brisbane/Queensland. But fly to Melbourne, Adelaide etc.
Must be in Coffs Harbour 😂 flights are crazy expensive
@@melindalow8526 Nah, Tamworth. Not willing to sell a kidney just to fly to Sydney lol
It’s crazy! I’m at Nambucca
On the Tim Tams the sentence “ There is no substitute “ was originally an advertising slogan, “ There is no substitute for quality” . This referred to all of the Arnotts brand biscuits but has since been shortened and I believe is only now on the Tim Tams.
We get the Darrell lea chocolate bars in the uk now and I’ve tried the one with popping candy and marshmallows in. It was amazing and from B&M
No way!! Totally missed those 😱😱😱 I’ll be looking out for those. Thanks Megan!
That’s interesting in the US they are called Sun chips I love them in tomato basil or garden Salsa
i drive from qld to nsw a lot! my friend drove from brisbane to perth it took her 4 days with stopping a fair bit
You say the 'Darrell' in 'Darrell-Lea' the same way you would say the 'Daryl'
I was salivating over the Tim tams. Love those.
haha they're so good 😍
Im from South Australia and tasmania is still a state in australia even though it is off the coast and also your meant to try and rip the mintie wrapper as long as you can with out it tearing apart and ive never seen anyone with a 5.
Hope this helped from down under🇦🇺💚
I’m in Australia and personally I love road trips and I’m scared of planes so I would drive.
I’m from WA and literally wouldn’t even drive to like, Exmouth since I can fly
Me too, I was posted to Exmouth…love that place and drove 14 hours just to see my boyfriend down in Rockingham.
I live in south Australia, halfway across from Sydney to Perth and we have so many travellers driving that route, across the great ocean road and the Nullarbor. To get to Adelaide South Australia’s main city it is a 5.5hour drive and we drive that often, doing day trips sometimes too.
I live in longreach, Queensland australia the closest big city is brisbane car ride is 13 hours, or plane is 2 1/2 hours
No way!!! Did not know this, thanks Kiara!!
Also I'm in Mackay..... first time watching.... double coated tim tams, Cadbury and the grainwaves are my favs
Very true!! The journey definitely depends on the type of holiday you want!
From Australia and live in Brisbane. Totally drive and have driven from Brisbane to Perth
Hi guys, Jules from NSW australia, happily driving anywhere it is so lovely
Lovely to see things along the way! 😀
In Australia it really depends on how much time you have, sometimes you might fly but then you miss all the little places that truly are beautiful, hope you enjoy the Aussie treats ❤️
Yes there are other brands that replicate Arnotts biscuits but they are just not as good, hence the saying on the pack ‘There’s no substitute’ 😀
@16:05 is the correct pronunciation of Darrell Lea
Yes that is so true! If you can afford to take more time driving means you get to see some places you would miss along the way in the air! We loved them, thank you 💕 Other brands that do dupes just never get them as good do they!! Thank you!!!
Kate sometimes mouth ulcers respond to a 2-3 day dosage of lysine. In the USA road trips are a thing due to the potential of roadside attractions. If you're limited on holiday/vacation time then air travel would be considered, but you would have to rent/taxi/Uber/Lyft to get around at you destination...so an additional cost.
that‘s why i love living in germany, there are literally 9 countries that take less than 10 hours to drive to 😍
So amazing!!! That is so cool you have those pretty much on your door step!
Even more. 11.
11 countries I mean.
Yes I have a Belgian friend who went for a Sunday drive 4 hrs multiple countries but I live in Victoria Australia and 4 hrs doesn’t even get me out of my state and Victoria is a small state.
I also liked when you got goodies from Italy
Yes!! Loved those
i live in Sydney , Australia and majority of us drive to one of the most popular places in Queensland... the Gold Coast, and it takes 12 hours to drive and 1 hour on a plane !
hello from the states...when we go to Vermont, we just drive there because it's just a 4 hour drive (Sometimes 5.5 if the high way is closed) but we always drive, even when we go to Boston, next time I go to NYC I will take the bus or train (it's quite scary to drive in the city) We get Caberys here too, but it's not as good apperently and not sold all year round? (At least the good easter ones arent) I love sun chips! we also have mentos here but i don't like them either.
hello 😀 That's so cool you can get to Vermont that quickly!! My sister once took a coach trip from LA to vegas so cool you can get busses!! Sun chips are soo good! Glad you love them too
@@ThisWithThem the chedder cheese are the best! Thanks for the reply you guys make me laugh!
Yum! FYI Superstore is over now. The series finale was in March I think. Sad that it’s done!
Ah so sad!! We must be delayed over here then!
I love your blue pastel sweatshirt Kate! Great video 😊
thank you very much!!!
Almond milk contains so many additives it varies from brand to brand even within Australia. Some brands are also sweetened.
Thank you for the tip Kylie!!!! They're so delicious
The road trip to Vegas was an absolute blast and one of the best memories with my bestie! We ended up driving the 4-5 hrs to LA a few days later and then drove straight back to East Tx after that. So fun but totally exhausting! Lol
