    REALLY nice video! at your expense LOL. But what fun! Excellent video / sound quality. This happened to me ONCE: 1965 on my buddy's HONDA 90. I'm on the back. 10 miles of gravel road + blowing rain.

I recently took this little Super Cub on a 9700-mile trip around the USA for the Scooter Cannonball Run in July 2021. We had LOTS of gravel, rain, and suffering on that trip... it was EPIC! 🤣👍 --QM

    I commuted on a motorcycle daily for a while in southern Ca, and rode in the rain to work without a face shield exactly once. Rain feels like shotgun pellets at anything about 30! With the shield in place, though, I rather liked it..

      Yep... full-sized raindrops at 50+ MPH sting a bit without full rain gear. I've ridden through many hail storms before... that's absolutely NO FUN! I actually enjoy riding in the rain as long as I'm not in city traffic or dense flows on the super slab... too many cagers not paying attention and playing bumper cars. Cheers! 👍 --QM

      @@QuasiMotard My first motorcycle was a Honda 50, liken many riders. Back in the 60s I would take it through the bogs in New Jersey. One time I was alone and drive through a small snowstorm. A special memory I only repeated once, too. It gets old and cold in the snow on a bike

    Back in the eighties I worked at a doc-in-the-box clinic near Bear Creek Park. I loved it then and haven't been there since moving out of Houston in the eighties. Hope it's still nice.

    Hmm... I kind of love this idea. I fear that I would either blow through my phone's data plan or lack adequate speed for Microsoft Teams meetings that I get stuck in too often. If I finally got the Macbook Air that I've been yearning to get, this would be more doable, as it wouldn't need a recharge during a full day of work like my 16" i9 MBP. The Cub seems like it'd be easier to do this than my Sportster, though only a bit. I dunno, this is tempting to try though.

    Your ride in the rain reminded me of my rides on a Honda Super Cub C-90 in tropical rains in Sri Lanka in the late '70s. I used a rain coat worn backwards to keep me dry and it worked.

    Got mine a month ago and drive it almost everyday. What a hoot to drive. 500 miles in 4 weeks with no major trips. Did the first oil change already. My only gripe is me killing the battery 2 times for leaving the ignition on. Jumping it is a pain. I fixed that by fabricating 2 posts that can used for jumping or charging during the winter.

    Hey, this is obviously not the video that you did this in but thank you for suggesting to change the shift lever for the cub 1-Click I find that to be a much better position for it to be in for me to also be able to rest my phone on the peg super easy to do. Thank you.

      @@QuasiMotard Thank you! It's new to me but actually it's a 2019 model which has only covered 450 miles. It looks in showroom condition. I haven't ridden it yet... Busy reading the manual. One thing I've noticed is that it's a lot of effort to pull it up on the centre stand, and I'm a fairly strong 6 foot tall guy. Perhaps my technique is wrong. I can't imagine some delicate non masculine person managing to haul it up on the stand!

    Thank you for sharing this sir! I used to have to rid 20 miles each way to and from my work at a power station, and in the winter, it was freezing and quite often heavy rain. Nothing like a heavy down pour to find out where the deficiencies in my wet gear was, my petrol tank used to direct all the rain sll into my crotch and guess where my gear had a hole in it? :D

      Thanks for the feedback! Agreed on the seating/working position... I actually had the laptop sitting in my lap most of the time and I used the table as a footrest. I've been looking for a "blackout" tent or a way to add sun-shielding inside of my existing tents to avoid the glare on the laptop's screen. Otherwise, it's a great way to get out of the office. 😉👍 --QM

    I've ridden in weather like that with my Honda Elite 110, before I put the new tires on it, it was a scary ride lol, now I don't fear it, I'm considering upgrading to the trail 125 though.

    Wow Aaron i rarely go out in rain like that unless i have to.
    Just think one moment your in the hot sun working in your tent and then its the rain and chill.
    I would hate to get my Supercub wet and dirty and i imagine your need to check that Drive chain for rust spots.

      Thanks for the feedback, Marc! I ride my bikes in all weather conditions, so the maintenance and mechanical checkups are just part of the deal. The Cub's chain is still doing very well, but I have a few kinked links now at 4500 miles. The OEM chain is just a standard, non-O-ring unit that is VERY cheap (only ~$11 USD), so I will probably replace it soon with a higher-quality O-ring or X-ring chain. Cheers! 👍 --QM

    Engine sizes does not make a bike rider.
    I just finished a weekend camp on my little 125PCX only 200 miles.
    But that's more than many week end warriors bother to do
    Usually its Burger bar compare cam shafts then go home

      Agreed! I've rediscovered the small-bore lifestyle as I've matured in my riding career. I started out on smaller bikes (125-250cc enduro's) back in the 80's and had 100K's of fun miles on them. I've owned 89 street bikes and countless other off-road and race bikes over the years. Those bikes have ranged from little 50cc scooters to giant, full-dress touring rigs... and everything in between. The larger, faster bikes can be a useful tool (or the only tool) to tackle some jobs, but their size and weight can also be a hindrance to adventure riding or just slowing down to enjoy the scenery. I prefer to take the slower path these days and enjoy the world around me instead of rushing through it to any particular destination. I'll leave the d**k measuring and macho bravado BS to the other guys that still think they have something to prove. I'm just out to have a good time and make some memories... and maybe share some experiences with like-minded folks along the way! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      Yep, that was the plan for this year, but COVID-19 caused the postponement of the 2020 Scooter Cannonball Run ( scootercannonballrun.com/ ). My original plan was for my son and me to ride a pair of Super Cubs ~9000 miles around the country in a big triangle from Houston, TX up to Bar Harbor, ME... across the country to Eureka, CA... then back to Houston, TX. I'm not sure how the schedule might work out for next year, but I'm still planning to do the event on my Cub (might not take my son if the timing doesn't work out).
      However, I did just complete a 7-day, 2000-mile trip on the Super Cub with another local Cub owner. We rode from Katy, TX up to Clinton, MO and back... stopping through Arkansas to motocamp and ride lots of the twisty mountain roads. The Cub's performed flawlessly! I'll be editing and posting that ride series soon. Cheers! 👍 --QM

    In less extreme rain do you find the leg guards keep much rain off? Hope you’ve dried out now. :)

      The leg shields do a decent job of keeping front tire spray off of my legs while riding in moderate rain. The shield area is narrow, so I need to remember not to man-split and keep my knees tucked in for best results. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    Great video! After watching this, I just had to get the DrySpec D20 for my Super Cub. They look so awesome. I love the gal asking what type of scooter is that? LOL! Never mind the big Honda logo on the back of the seat! One thing is for sure, you DO get a lot of attention when you take the Super Cub out. Just like with my Royal Enfield Classic 500 in battle green. Both of those bikes draw attention wherever I go. You don't need to spend a lot of money to have a bike that people admire!

      Don't forget to install some kind of rear rack and/or side supports for the bags... otherwise, they'll rub the rear fender and shocks. I installed the Kijima rack and bag supports on my Cub. I'm extremely pleased with the outcome... very functional and still minimalist in appearance: th-cam.com/video/p8dNW8pEHqc/w-d-xo.html (all of the product links are in the video description). This exact bag setup just traveled 2000 miles with me on the Missouri and Arkansas trip... zero problems and zero leaks. I had plenty of storage space, and the D20's even worked double duty as beer coolers for a couple of days: instagram.com/p/CFDhxUXl-G7/? . Look everyone, it's the new Honda Party Cub! LOL! 🤣
      The two groups of people that stopped by to chat about the Cub were really nice. I cut all of that footage (20+ minutes) because I didn't know if they wanted to be on camera or not. I had to leave the first part of the conversation, though... it was just too good to cut out. "It's a HONDA?!"... priceless! We had a good chat and they took pictures to post on Facebook for their friends. BTW... I really like the RE Classic... that's a really nice bike! Cheers! 👍 --QM

    The CT125 is looking less and less likely in Europe so a Super Cub it will be in the new year. Can you give me a link to the considerations and fitting of your 12/5v outlet please - and can you confirm the tyres are tubeless?

      Hello, Tony! Yes, the tires are tubeless, so you can use any common patch kits and CO2 inflators for road repairs. I carry these items as my standard flat kit on all of my bikes:

      Unfortunately, I didn't record my electrical installation on the Cub because I was running out of time on that project before a road trip. Tearing down the Cub to wire it the way that I did wasn't fun... you can watch that video here if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/k1ri2ZEX9JI/w-d-xo.html . I was already planning to replace my leg shield, so the bulk of the effort was already spent. So, I went the hard route and tapped the switched 12V line from the back side of the ignition switch so that my accessories wouldn't be always-on.
      You could just fish a 12V USB adapter directly from the battery instead, but you'll need to be careful about draining the battery when the bike isn't running. Many of the moto-specific units will come with a standard SAE power connector that can be unplugged and also used for a battery tender ( www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HEJVXUK ).       Thanks for the feedback! I recommend using the RAM 9mm mirror base adapters so you have more flexibility on mounting accessories on the Cub's handlebars. If you only use a single RAM adapter, then the screen or mirrors would be tilted, so it's easier to get two of them instead (you could also use flat washers as spacers).
      My phone mounting solution is comprised of 3 different parts:
      RAM 9mm mirror mount adapter RAM-B-272U: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012TRIY4
      RAM short double-socket arm: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005KWPJ04 (be sure it's the one with the flat twist knob, the round knob doesn't work well)
      Quad Lock 1" ball adapter mount:

Because i will only have phone holder so if i put under the mirrorrs , mirrors will not have alignment. one will appear up.

      The RAM adapters fit under the existing mirrors or any aftermarket units. Just unscrew the mirror bolt, and then the base adapter fits between the bolt and the handlebar mount. If you purchase two of the RAM adapters, then both sides will be equal. 👍 --QM

    How are you coming along on that idea to make a trailer for your super-cub, like that one guy did for his scooter in the ozarks?

      I haven't had time to work on my own trailer design that is still rattling around in my head, but I did purchase an adventure trailer from Kipmoto ( kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax ). I got the SherpaX with mounts for two of my other bikes (2008 Yamaha XT250 and 2014 Honda CB500X). I need to take some detailed measurements and pictures to send to the manufacturer so they can fabricate the mount for the Super Cub. Each SherpaX mount (hoop) costs ~$300 USD, and you can simply pull the trailer pivot bolt to swap between different hoops.
      However, the Trail 125 is on the horizon, so I might wait until sometime in November (we hope) so I can compare the swingarm and mounting situation for both the SC and the Trail 125. The same mount might work for both bikes, but the SC has very limited clearance between the exhaust and the swingarm. The Trail 125 has a high scrambler-style exhaust, so it shouldn't be any problem to mount the SherpaX behind that little mule. Cheers! 👍 --QM

He snagged a brand-new, zero-mile, 2019 Super Cub with the Honda OEM rear rack, OEM side stand, bike cover, etc... all for only $3000! We just completed a 7-day, 2000-mile ride on our Cub's to Missouri and Arkansas for lots of riding twisty mountain roads and motocamping... it was a blast!       The IRC T-Spec tires on my Cub are good in dry conditions, but only decent on wet pavement. However, I have ridden lots of miles now in wet conditions without any problems. I will be replacing my tires soon with a new set of Michelin Pilot Street ( motorcycle.michelinman.com/motorbike/tyres/michelin-pilot-street ), and those should have better tread life and MUCH better wet traction than the IRC's. 👍 --QM

      I was using the Goal Zero Nomad 28 Plus panel in this video. They have discontinued that particular model and replaced it with the smaller Nomad 20 ( amzn.to/33WCNXa ). The Nomad Plus series is fully waterproof and ruggedized, so I tend to use those more than the cheaper brands out there. Cheers! 👍 --QM

    Hi QM, good to see your videos again. Quick question, how often do you lubricate the chains of the Super Cub? I was looking to get one then I read you have to constantly lubricate them. Ride safe buddy.

      Howdy, Jonel, and thanks for the feedback! The chain maintenance isn't any worse on the Cub than any other chain-driven bike. The recommended interval is to lubricate the chain and check the tension/slack every 300 miles, but that's a bit too much in my opinion. I usually check and lube the chain every 500-700 miles. The OEM chain on the Super Cub is very cheap (in price and quality)... the price to replace it is only ~$11 USD! I will probably be replacing my chain soon with a higher-quality O-ring or X-ring chain to extend the service life and reduce maintenance. Cheers! 👍 --QM

      QuasiMotard Wow, that’s a good price. I hope you make a video when you replace the chain. Thanks to you, I don’t even own a Super Cub but I know how to change the oil. If I ever get a Cub, I plan to maintain it myself. Thanks!

      QuasiMotard I am torn between getting a Honda super cub or a Honda scooter such as the pcx or sh that we have here in the UK, I was thinking of the pros and cons to both , I have never owned a scooter and would appreciate some advice as to the belt maintenance compared to a chain maintenance and which one would be easier to own for commuting purposes. I have enjoyed all your videos but am having trouble in making my mind up as to what to get.

      ​@@jasonclarke7422 As much as I love the Super Cub, a traditional CVT scooter is the clear winner for commuting purposes. The Super Cub is dead-reliable, super-efficient, and it will probably last forever... but it has shortcomings for use as a commuter. The lack of ANY available storage space (without adding aftermarket racks), the small fuel tank, and the occasional chain maintenance are the pitfalls for the Cub vs a scooter. Scooters generally have under-seat storage and they have larger fuel tanks than the Cub. There is usually very little belt maintenance for scooters... just check/change the CVT air filter (if equipped) and change the belt every ~12K miles to be on the safe side (also be sure to clean the variator grooves and the rollers/sliders during that service). Belt changes aren't expensive or difficult to do at home if you have the proper tools, but any reputable shop can quickly swap one for you in less than an hour.
      Lastly, scooters are just twist-and-go... no gear changes... so they tend to get off the line better and you don't need to row the gearbox in city traffic. The CVT always selects the proper "gear" ratio, and you always have maximum power/torque available at all speeds... just whack open the throttle and go!       @@QuasiMotard thank you for your reply, I had a Honda c90 years ago so I'm probably reminiscing about those days that got me into motorcycling care free day's having ride's out with my mate's, but I have always wanted to try out a scooter as they look like a lot of fun without the issue of having to lube and tighten a chain. thanks for making these videos they are very much appreciated.

      @@DirtRider22a Yep, it's currently sitting in my warehouse waiting for a carburetor rebuild. I left it sitting for 3-4 weeks and the ethanol fuel did its magic... when I turned on the fuel, it started pissing fuel all over the floor (stuck float or needle valve). I plan to tear into that project this weekend or maybe early next week so I can get it on the road again. I plan to do the fuel drain routine on it before I leave it sitting for any extended periods from now on... just turn off the fuel and let it run itself dry. 👍 --QM
