I think the problem with the supercub 125 is that it's exactly doing the opposite of what they marketed back then wherein the old cub was a cheap utilitarian bike.
Completely agree. There is no doubt it is a nice bike to ride. But when the Wave/PCX does the same thing for less than half the price it's hard to justify buying one. I'm still glad I got to try it though!
I like smal bikes. I had few and I considered purchase of one of new Honda 125: Super Cub, Monkey, Dax or MSX. Unfortunatelly Honda mounted a keyless bullshit into Super Cub so I removed it for the list. I purchased a Dax and I'm really happy with it. Dax has traditional ignition switch, key lock for seat unlocking. So no bother about battery in FOB, no possibility of losing a key and riding away. Sometimes less is more.
It'd be nice if the rest of the world had access to the 110cc version Thailand produces. They're super cost effective too! The dax is a nice bike though. I rode one in Thailand in 2022 and loved it.
I’ve got one. It’s a great fun bike. They look ridiculous with baskets on the front & inside leg shield. But you can get them. There are loads of aftermarket solutions. I did put the Rack on the back which is very handy indeed. The only downside to a C125 is they are crap up a hill or mild incline. They loose all the “power”. Other than that they are ace.
I think you're right about the lacking utilitarian aspect. The new cub is a bit of an oddity in the current market. It's not sold well in the UK (where I am) either, if you were looking at something to get as a practical machine, why would you choose a Honda SuperCub with no storage and a semi-auto over any of the many different scooters with some built in storage and a much "easier" CVT
The Cub transmission needs no maintenance but CVT scooter transmissions need frequent belt changes, + the manual gears are more economical so you could factor that into the purchase price vs the maintenance on CVT scooter. I ride a Tmax 500 and it's a ball ache the maintenance and cost ! I'd rather a manual bike any day and that's what I'm going to get. If Honda put the new E-Clutch on scooters then there'd be no need for constant CVT maintenance. Sure, you'd still have to change gears but in fairness, that's no big deal really. Manual box is always superior. I'd even prefer the Cub Gearbox and E-Clutch over Honda's DCT !
@@MattGrover Usually scooter belts have to be replaced around 20,000 Kms or 12,500 miles, the rollers may have to be replaced also. Scooters like the Tmax are expensive to change the belt you could be looking at over 300 Euros including belt, rollers if needed and labour, scooters have lots of plastic bits to remove and put pack. The Xmax and other CVT scooters are the same. The belt alone is around 250 Euros for the original Yamaha for the Tmax 500 belt not some cheap knockoff. Of course, people can do their own maintenance if able to do so. Having ridden the Tmax 500, it's fun but I would never in a million years pay anything close to the new prices because at the end of the day Honda's NC750 X DCT, in my opinion is far superior because, more power if that's your thing, no maintenance on transmission and it still has some storage but it's much cheaper and with Honda's E-Clutch it will be similar to the Super Cub bikes in that you will only have to change gear by foot but unlike the super cub still have the ability to use the clutch. From riding the tmax, manual bike transmissions are nicer in my opinion, I don't like the sound of the engine with CVT, I recently got a chance to ride a Honda CBF600 from 2006 and it was a better bike in many ways and hopefully E-Clutch will appear on cheaper bikes soon.

It has no kick starter and no way to power the ignition on if the battery dies. So that right there destroys the legendary unkillability of the Super Cub.
Where are you gonna store those? In that micro side cover along with the tools needed to access the battery? There is a reason that Thailand,Vietnam, Cambodia, China, etc prefer the Wave.
I did love it, riding it felt awesome and it's well put together. But because I own the Honda Wave I'll always have a tough time liking anything else more.
I have the same cub as the one in your video and I put a 65 L locking waterproof box on mine and a rear rack and I put a front rack on and then a tiny box on that and I can also strap stuff to the top of the bigger box in the backso I’ve got as much storage as I can and I use that thing for everything

I gather they sold pretty rubbish when released in the UK I know I was watching one at the local Honda dealer ex demo bike with a few hundred miles and it took a while to sell for £2000!!! Used ones now are usually over £3000, maybe the poor sales is part of the reason we didn't get the CT125 which I was really gutted about although looking on ebay imports seem to have flooded the market and theres 10 of them currently for sale between £4300 and £5000!!
Interesting to hear a UK update. I remember people saying sales seemed low there. We had the original CT's so we were lucky enough to get the new ones. But I feel Honda has taken the low C125 sales as an excuse to not bring the Honda Dax 125 to New Zealand. So I guess we're even in that respect. No suprise people have listed their CT125's for sale as it can be an acquired taste. But I'm mind blown people paid the asking price. It's impressive if anything. I do wonder if Seven Seas importing the CT125's made Honda pull finger and bring in the Dax for you guys.
This is New Zealand - that particular road the shoulder turns into a new lane a bit further down so I don't mind doing it there. But generally I try not to sneak up on the inside.

My mates mum bought one from lakes honda, its almost a pinky red colour, that he can borrow. Its got legs on my ct125, buts not as flash on the gravel haha. The keyfob thing is a bit weird haha. I reckon its pretty cool, its definitely pretty gucci
Yeah they look the part, and feel bloody comfortable. Don't know if I'd want to take one off road just because they look so nice. 😂😂😂
@@SmallBikeStuff oh yeah man haha, he was allowed to borrow it, but had to wash it before he returned haha. Been trying to rope him into a nbc110, there was one in te puke or something on marketplace the ither day for $1300
@@yalefail i know the guy that ended up buying that one. Tauranga fella. Wasn’t too bad of a deal.
@@SmallBikeStuff bloody good deal when a top end and clutch refresh is a only couple hundred bucks haha. The one i did for a mate was at 56,000 but other than being a top end rattly was mint
does it at least have hooks for shopping bags on the front leg faring? whats the silver metal square just under the speedometer nest to the key ignition? hidden hooks maybe???😎
Sadly it's just a silver plastic cover. But there are aftermarket hooks than can be added either side of that cover. They're for sale on beezdeals.
I like them but find the lack of kick start, conventional ignition key, proper seat, etc a bit of a let down.
My innova with a modified bench seat is way more practical
Yup - Innova is a great bike and can't be beat. I'd say in the next 5 years they'll be harder to come by in nice condition in the UK. I'd be stocking up now! Glad you've got one.
@@SmallBikeStuff couldn’t agree more, I have 2 innova 125s already! 😂. Both fuel injected 2008/9 models 🙏
We could be the English branch of Small bike stuff 👍😂🤣😂
One of us has a tuned honda cub thats genuinely 86 cc and has 17hp on the rolling road, it’s a pocket missile 😮
Umm,, imported CT125 vs Voge 300 Rally £4K OTR ?
I live in CA and wouldnt pass in shoulder, ever. is this a thing in AUS?
This is New Zealand - that particular road the shoulder turns into a new lane a bit further down so I don't mind doing it there. But generally I try not to sneak up on the inside.
Honda could have made a feature out of a Cub specific back box.
Completely agree!
@@SmallBikeStuff It's a bike for hipsters. They could have made a cool box with a light or something to go with.......
I have that exact bike. (even the color) but that aftermarket can is not for me. I don't like the sound. I have a rear rack with a crate attached. It's pretty good for urban riding...even though you have to shift as opposed to a CVT scooter.
Thats awesome! Must be a nice bike to ride regularly.
why every SCub owner have the yoshimura exhaust on the bike 😂
Because it sounds good! Much nicer than my Noo Lamlukka pipe on the Wave.
I need it! 😭😭
I feel so lucky to finally ride one! It’s been a long time since I first saw them in person.
Too expensive too "normal" to justify it imho... heck i rather ride an adv160 or ct125
Fair call! Glad I finally got to test this thing. It felt great to ride - but the next bike on my list is a PCX!
The trail125 is more my style.
Love the Trail 125!
Super Cub 125 does much better on 💩 roads and it is fastest top speed than the CT 125. I ❤ them all.
I wish I could have one of each bike!
Still kinda want, giz a cheap one
I'd be keen on a cheap one!
❤
Thanks for watching!
