    I'm using a grom for deliveries, but my instinct is telling me that a cub would be better for this.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The engine characteristics will be very similar between the two, since the Cub's motor is mostly the same top-end. The fuel tank on the Cub is slightly smaller (1.0 gal vs 1.5 on the Grom), but at over 120 mpg, it shouldn't make that much difference for in-town deliveries. The big positives for the Cub are the auto-clutch and the larger diameter wheels... they really make a difference in terms of usability and handling. The only real downside to the Cub as it is delivered is the COMPLETE lack of storage. That's a relatively easy fix by adding the rear rack and a top box, milk crate, or any other array of storage options on the back. Just think of it this way: the Super Cub has been making a living as a delivery vehicle for over 50 years and 100M units! Just do a Google search for "honda super cub cargo" and you'll see all kinds of abuse that has been heaped upon this sturdy little beast over the last 5-6 decades. 👍😉 --QM

    I have the Thailand SuperCub version which looks very different to this “fancy” model. I drove dozens of different bikes but the SuperCub brings the most fun.
    I’m planing on driving from Thailand to Europe on it.

      That would be an EPIC trip! You should make a ride/journey VLOG covering that trip. I would definitely subscribe and follow that adventure. I have never visited that part of the world, but I have been to the UK, France, Spain, and Israel a few times. Unfortunately, none of those visits were for pure, relaxed tourism at my own pace... there were always agendas and timelines to follow... and I certainly didn't do it on a motorcycle or scooter. That would be fantastic! --QM

    The engine sounds so good revving up between shifts. I love it. I loved my old Honda Trail 90s and 110s but they were 45 mph (top speed) bikes that got real tiring. My Vespa 300 will cruise 75 all day and top out about 80 but you lose the beautiful sounds of revving and shifting. The only thing that's holding me back on buying the SC125 is it's just for commuting, not running errands because of no storage on it. But the urge to get a "shifting" bike is keeping me thinking about it.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I should have my pannier project completed sometime soon, so that might sway your decision. The lack of storage is the only large drawback about the Cub, so the panniers shoukd solve that problem. Of course, if you need to travel higher speeds (above 55-60 mph) on your commutes, then that would also a problem for the Cub. --QM

      @@QuasiMotard Can't wait to see your pannier solution. Are they hard panniers or soft ones? I put hard Pelican cases on my KLR650. It would be nice if someone would make a dedicated pannier frame for hard bags. I called all over 3 states today and only found one for sale about 200+ miles from me. All the other dealers sold the only ONE they are going to get this year. I might hold out for the 2020 model and Honda might actually realize they sold very well and will flood the market next year. If you can find one this year, there are no deals.

      I am planning to use a set of waterproof bicycle panniers from Timbuk2. You can see the brainstorming video here: th-cam.com/video/-7ahiffWzdE/w-d-xo.html . I delivered the pannier set to an alteration shop last week, so we'll see if they can make the modifications (e.g. split down the middle yoke and use Velcro for adjustable width). If not, then I'll take them to an automotive upholstery shop... certainly they would have the tools and materials for the job. --QM

      Agreed! The Cub really handles better than it should for being a "scooter-ish" bike. I'm really impressed at the tip-in and how well it holds a line... it's much more sure-footed than my PCX150's or even my SilverWing. I think it's a combination of the light weight and the 17" wheels/tires. I haven't pushed mine too hard yet, but I plan to take it up to Austin, TX next week for the MotoGP races at COTA. If the weather permits, I'll head over to the hill country (e.g. Hwy 360, Bee Caves area, etc) and tackle some twisties that I used to run on my sport bikes several years ago. Hopefully I'll be able to video that ride as well. --QM

    That's why everywhere in the world you get blinking green before yellow to let you know it's time to slow down.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. I think we should implement that here in the USA. The only odd signal practice that I see in foreign videos is the flashing BEFORE the green light... advising that it is about to turn green. That would be bad here in the USA because everyone would not treat that as a yield and just go through the intersection. Here, that is a ticket offense called "anticipating the light". The real problem is the people anticipating on one side, and the other side running the red light... just an accident waiting to happen. --QM

    • @bentellingsen7421
      @bentellingsen7421 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No blinking here in Norway or in the rest of Scandinavia, but the yellow light might last a little longer. Not sure it's much help in that. Got a ticket once, when a car behind drove so close that I found it too dangerous to stop. The car behind also passed on yellow or red, and also got a ticket. That proved to me that by passing I prevented an accident. But not to the police.

    You answered my question...I am looking for great fun. Sounds like the cub is the way to go between it and PCX 150? What about between it and Grom? Have you ridden a Grom? Again just looking for great fun. Oh just saw review of Adv 150..what about it or Zuma 125...can’t get a demo on any of these.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's a hard decision between the PCX150 and the Mini-moto's (Super Cub, Grom, Monkey). The PCX has the ease of twist-and-go and more power to accelerate, but it's not as engaging to ride as the Super Cub. The Cub, Grom, and Monkey all share the same motor, so the engine character is basically the same. I haven't owned a Grom, but I've ridden them for extended periods on many occasions. The ride quality of the Cub is MUCH better than the Grom due to its larger wheels and tires. The Cub also handles more like a motorcycle and is more nimble than the PCX, and it's about on par with the Grom in terms of playful/sporty handling.
      I have an ADV150 waiting for me at the dealer, but I haven't made the decision (yet) to go through with the purchase. I'm finding it hard to justify the $4600 purchase price compared to the Yamaha XMAX 300 at nearly the same price... that's a tough sell. I don't NEED any more bikes, so I'm weighing the options... maybe I'll sell/trade some of the less-used bikes in my stable to make room for the ADV150 or XMAX300. I need to make a decision this week, so we'll see how it goes.
      If you're just looking to bomb around town on surface streets and back roads, then the Super Cub is hard to beat. If you think that you might want to take gravel roads and rough surfaces, then the Zuma 125 or the Monkey 125 would be the better choices because of their chunky tires. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      QuasiMotard thanks for your encouragement. I went for a ride yesterday it’s like riding a motorised pushbike! I struggled with changing down with the heel a bit (I last rode a cub more than 25 years ago). The smart key system has me a bit puzzled because occasionally I’ve had to turn the switch to unlock position before it would turn to ignition on. Any thoughts on that or is it normal? For info the local roads are twisty, narrow and hilly, ideal for the super cub. Cheers jw

    I guess 50 mph is a limit then? Not enough for me, I have areas I need to go 65... My Smax-150 tops out at 75 mph (GPS indicated).

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      No, the Cub can do 55-60 mph comfortably for hours at a time. The top speed is around 63-64 mph under the right conditions (e.g. no headwind, flat road). I kept the speed down to ~50 mph on this trip because the motor was still under the break-in period. It's out of that now and I'm flogging it harder. I just returned from motocamping at COTA in Austin, TX (about a 350 mile round-trip). I took back highways at 55 mph, and about 40 miles each direction on Hwy-290 where the speed limit is 75 mph... I was WOT running ~62 for the entire time. The little Cub still returned ~120 mpg even under that abuse! However, it doesn't have the motor to maintain anything beyond that in factory trim. The SMAX (or even my PCX150's) will outpace it. --QM

    Has anyone ever noticed how in most of the sky's videos when he's out during the daytime writing how he just has the high beam on in general, which I don't know about Texas if it's illegal to run with your high beam on but in states where it is like Colorado where I'm from, you can get a ticket during the daytime too for having your high beams on as well if an officer pulls you over and wants to make that a deal as well.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  ปีที่แล้ว

      Riding a motorcycle with high beams during daylight hours is a recommended safety procedure, and it's even taught in the MSF Rider's Course. The extra light output isn't blinding to other motorists compared to daylight, and it gives extra visibility (conspicuity) for the motorcycle in traffic so other motorists can see it.
      Most drivers aren't looking for vehicles with smaller frontal areas like motorcycles have, so the high beams make it more visible in traffic. 😉👍 --QM

I will try to separate out the content a bit for "review" and bike-specific rides (e.g. "supercub", "ryker", etc) so those have more ride and less talk. I have even considered a "B-roll" channel with just the raw, unedited videos with no voice-over. I appreciate these videos so so SOOO much!! I’m planning on getting back in to the scoots (have had two trail 90s, a 50cc Aprilia Scarabeo and a 150cc Genuine Stella in the past. One issue is that I am 6’4” with a 34” inseam. Currently I’m looking at the Super Cub and a Vespa Primavera 150. The Scarabeo was my fav of the bunch so I’m leaning toward the super cub (also because it’s 2k less than the vespa) but I’m concerned that the 1up seat may be cramped for my size where I always found vespas pretty roomy. Do you have any recommendations? Is the Super Cub noticeably 2k lesser quality, etc? Thanks man!!!

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are tough questions when considering your height. On paper, I believe that the Super Cub is a hands-down winner due to the larger wheels, roughly the same power and speed, and the fact that it's ~$1500+ lower in price. Another win for the Super Cub is the fuel economy... I'm seeing an average of ~135-140 mpg on mine, where the Primavera is only rated at ~95 mpg. The hard bit is your height and inseam length... both of those bikes have ~30.7" seat heights, so you'll be towering over them. I don't know about the leg room on the Primavera, but the Cub should afford you enough knee room (barely). The seat length on the Cub might be an issue for you because it's relatively short front-to-back, and there is no provision for the bench seat from yesteryear (although I'm sure you can source that from one of the Asian markets). You should watch this video from "The Chronicles of Mr Fish": th-cam.com/video/2lP9kGSPbVo/w-d-xo.html . He is a tall guy, so his opinions about the fit of the Cub should be relevant for your anatomy. --QM

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I forgot to mention that the fit and finish of the Super Cub is fantastic! I haven't found anything that is made or assembled poorly on this bike. I was really surprised at the quality of the machine from the very first ride, particularly in respect to its handling... the 17" wheels really make a difference when compared to scooters with 11-14" wheels.
      My only gripes have been with the position of the heel-toe shifter, which has now been resolved
      ( th-cam.com/video/hi24CwhOGLU/w-d-xo.html ) and the poorly-constructed OEM parcel rack for the rear of the bike ( th-cam.com/video/5xzRMqrzME0/w-d-xo.html ). Other Cub owners haven't had any problems with the rack, so my unit may have just been a fluke. --QM

    it is the taller screen on the PCX that causes the bike to get knocked about in wind , mine is the same , I tried the original one back on to test , it was fine , no buffeting , you say you like quirky bikes I just picked up a couple of days ago a little Yamaha Tricity Scooter , it has 2 front wheels , you should try and test or buy one for your quirky collection :-)

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I noticed the same thing about the windscreens on the PCX. My white 2015 PCX has a taller screen and it has more of a "sail" effect to it than the shorter one on my grey 2016 PCX. However, in both cases, I have noticed that the extra surface area from the bodywork (e.g. sides and front fairing) tend to catch more wind than the naked bikes. My Honda SilverWing 600 is no exception... that thing is heavy and stable, but it doesn't like cross winds either.
      I have seen pictures of the Yamaha Tricity, but I've never seen one in person. They remind me of the Piaggio MP3 scooters from several years ago. How does the Tricity ride? Is your bike the 125cc or another displacement. How about speed and handling vs scooters of similar displacement? Details, details, details! 👍😉 --QM

      @QuasiMotard  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Howdy, Bill! I'm sure that I have plenty of advice to offer, but it's hard to sum up here in a single post. What bike/scoot will you be riding, what are your intended riding chores (e.g., commuting, pleasure, long road trips, etc), and where are you in the country?
      If you don't have any prevous riding experience, then I strongly suggest that you enroll in a MSF Basic Rider's Course to teach you the basics. The MSF course is required by most states in order to get your "M" endorsement on your driver's license. Beyond the basics, there are lots of "advanced" riding classes and riding groups across the country, so you might be able to find one of those to get more practice.
      If you're a seasoned rider that is downsizing into scooters or the small-bore lifestyle, then you're ready for the road. Just take the back highways and rural roads where the traffic is less dense and (hopefully) slower-paced. These small bikes and scoots can go anywhere that the bigger bikes can, but you're able (forced) to get there slower... which means more time to enjoy the scenery! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      Agreed! The older Cub's (and Passports here in the USA) had very poor front suspension... very durable, but not very compliant or good handling. The new Cub has proper forks on it, but they are only half-high instead of being full-length with traditional triple clamps. The new ADV150 might be a change from the Cub and PCX suspension, though... Per Honda's info page (powersports.honda.com/street/scooter/adv150), it reportedly has proper motorcycle suspension: "The ADV150 features Showa® telescopic front suspension with the most travel in its class, a full 5.1 inches. In the rear, a pair of premium Showa shocks feature remote piggyback reservoirs and triple-rate springs that control 4.7 inches of travel." Nice! I really hate that expression "it's got no soul" in most cases a bike with no "soul" is the better more refined bike which is what I prefer. Harley's have TONS of soul and I wouldn't own one of them. I love the look of the Cub but the looks aren't worth the money they want for it.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed... it's a little non-descriptive, but I couldn't think of another phrase to sum up the feeling. Many people equate "character" with "soul", but I disagree... "character" is generally the sum of the eccentricities (good and bad) and the faults of a machine, where "soul" is more related to the human connection with the machine. Also agreed on the Harley comment... I have owned Harley's in the past and I just don't care for the noise, vibration, or the mechanical unreliability. They have plenty of personality, that's for sure... I just don't want to deal with the bad habits or bad manners that come along for the ride with that personality. ;-)
      I really like my scooters, and the PCX150's in particular, but they are just not as engaging to ride as the Super Cub. The Cub is slower for acceleration, top speed, and storage capacity... but it is MUCH more fun to ride than the PCX150. If you have the opportunity or the means, then I recommend giving both of them a try in a back-to-back comparison. I don't feel any real connection to the PCX like I do with the Super Cub... it's just that mechanical interaction and more tactile feel that gives it the extra edge, IMHO. --QM

      @LateNite. A "lack of soul" is one of those irrational factors that cause a lot of people to get a motorcycle instead of a scooter - which they end up riding in downtown stop-and-go traffic anyway, never on the highway, and with lowered gas mileage. Sure, they have the "satisfaction" of a muscly bike they can show off, but a scooter is more practical. Scoots like the Cub and PCX would help to reduce congestion in American cities, but there's a silly macho attitude against them (probably due to how goofy the 50 cc's look. Admittedly, a maxi scooter looks better).

      Agreed! However, cagers here in the USA don't even know how to use a roundabout! They pull up to it, stop, backup, go the wrong direction, turn from the wrong lane, drive straight over the top... it's a festival of incompetence! 🤣👍 --QM

    Do you allow anyone else in your family to ride this?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Everyone is welcome and invited to ride any/all of my bikes, as long as they don't abuse or damage them. My son managed to "drop" the Cub just a few days after I purchased it (see that video here: th-cam.com/video/3h0DozndoJU/w-d-xo.html ), so he won't be riding it for a while. The only one in my family that is interested in riding right now is my son... my daughter and wife haven't taken much interest yet. --QM

    which one is better for long trip sir?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The PCX150 is more comfortable for longer trips because the seat is wider and you can reposition your feet along the floorboards as needed. The Super Cub has a tighter rider triangle and doesn't offer much comfort for long trips, but I have taken it on many 300-400 mile trips without any problems. Cheers! 👍 --QM

    What are you using for that speedometer display?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are the built-in gauges for the Hero7. You can enable them and export the video with the GoPro Quik software. It's a little bit of a pain, because you have to export each clip with the overlay and then bring all of those clips into another editing software (I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro CC for all of the editing). The end result is worth the effort as long as the video warrants it (e.g. a ride vlog vs just a quick how-to video). --QM

    You always prefer coming to a stop with downshifting ?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I always downshift as I am slowing down. It's a motor-memory habit from riding motorcycles for so many years. The timing for downshifts on the Super Cub is a little tricky at first because the rhythm is different than other motorcycles (delayed throttle blip and slow release of the shift lever), but I figured it out after a few days. 👍 --QM

    Can you do a review on the cruise control devise ?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Certainly! That is the Go Cruise throttle lock that I have mentioned in other videos. I don't have a specific video put together yet with just review on different cruise controls, but here are a few of the previous vlog's with those comparisons... the links below should take you directly to the point in the video regarding the cruise control:

      This was part of an ongoing series. If you're interested, you can watch several other Super Cub videos on my channel here: th-cam.com/video/wbQWlWMA-lo/w-d-xo.html . The oldest (first) videos are at the bottom of the playlist. Cheers! 👍 --QM
