Oats you always pass the vibe check.
I agree! sina li pana e pilin pona tawa jan ale 😊
What’s that in English
@@ocallaghanocallaghan7949If you translate it literally, it means "he gives a good feeling towards everybody"
@@stickad_ Well, that's one aspect. It also requires a conscious effort on the part of the vibee to see if the viber's tone, body language, and other nonverbal signifiers are up to their standards. EDIT: Non-word signifiers. Tone is verbal lol.
@@stickad_ thx for the translation 🙂 I didn’t see it fast enough lol
thank u for dealing with my even more mistakes i made in this video haha,, i'm still on the learning journey and it's all very fun :)
jan Sonja referencing "show me the bibliography" is not something i realised i needed in my life
i almost missed it
Yesssss
Where did that quote come from i can't find it
@@DanielMemeSmith jan Misali's and Anthony McCarthy's argument about toki pona in the comment section of _Conlang Critic: Ido_
that argument has been memed a lot on jan Misali's channel since then (they've made two separate Rhythm Heaven parodies about it)
basically, Anthony is arguing that toki pona isn't a language for a few reasons, one of which is its lack of speakers and written works, hence the quote _"Show me the bibliography."_
im an esparantist the conlang with the largest
4:55 giving sonjalang her own chair is such a cute detail
Seems like a language my friends or siblings and I would learn so that we can talk privately
It's honestly so much fun to use, and the community is pretty cool. Try it!
I invented a language with my sister exactly for that purpose, but we're still working on it and it should not and is not simple at all😂
Reminds me of Udlejks a language I made up for a game
@@joshuasims5421 It really isn't.
The feeling of toki pona is when I finish an epic ballad and them I'm forced to butcher it with aggressive mp3 compression so I can send it on my DM service of choice.
lipu su li lon a! IAs you highlight, most conlangs are used to talk about the conlang itself, and it is awesome that su ain't like that and brings more toki pona content to the world. It's fantastic that there's more and more stories in toki pona and content which doesn't just focus on the mechanics of the language itself (selfish plug: I myself run a toki pona VLog here). I 100% agree that The Wizard of Oz is an absolutely perfect story to kick start a book series. So, everyone, go and get your copy of the book! o su!
Fun Fact: In Minecraft, if you go to options, and then language, toki pona is actually one of the languages!
yeah ik
This is only true on Java edition iirc
@@felixroux it is
sona ni li ike suli
i actually love it sm. theres also a sitelen pona texture pack.
@@omekapo Cool!
Can't wait for more toki pona videos! It's so nice to have a youtuber in the community who actually does the research and participates, but also isn't just a learning resource, like you were saying
I hope some time in the future that the Egyptian bird glyph would be added to toki pona
FIRST
THIRD
you can add it yourself
*w a s o*
new waso glyph just dropped
I feel like a neat book idea that could utilize toki pona for its narrative would be for a pseudo dairy, where the narrator is intentionally narrating their life in toki pona as a means of privacy, or in a story where two characters who are super close use the language for personal communication. Idk, the use of such an obscure language makes me think of themes regarding privacy, deep bonds, and opening up to new people.
Today is day 10 of my Toki Pona journey. Two days ago, I received my copies of pu and ku from Amazon.
Your 1st video was amazingly helpful. My attempts at Journaling mirror yours. Journaling with the glyphs really struck a cord with me! I have already purchased my journal.
Since 2nd grade, I have been a fan of the Oz books. L. Frank Baum wrote 14 before he passed. Ruth Plumly Thompson wrote an additional 14 before she passed. And I have read all of them!
So when you said that su is The Wizard of Oz written in glyphs, you just sent my motivation through the roof!
Thank you so very much for both of your videos!!!

"tawa pona" is a response to "mi tawa" and not standalone "Goodbye", but only if the other says "mi tawa" (I am going) you say "tawa pona" (go good).
yea i realized i could've phrased that better, my original intention was to be saying "tawa pona" as in sonja was leaving the convo, but i realize now it looks more like the other way around
ehh it still works without an explicit "mi tawa" to respond to, as long as the other party is in fact going to tawa (which i don't think a lipu can :p)
OH I just realized you’re ðe “I fixed ðe Alphabet” guy, also stellar video
1:04 I know it’s jokes but the little HAI jab is kinda funny
I still quote so many of the errors in that video “poki loje lon sinpin li poki tawa” is my favorite though
the biggest thing i got out of this is that jan Sonja knows about anthony mccarthy's comment thread
edit: oh my bazinga she likes majuna
in the past, ku suli has shaped what words have gotten more or less prevalent based on what was categorized as "ku suli", establishing the 137 core words, so
mi la, there's 139 core words in toki pona now! (+ su and majuna) as nimi su
SUPER EXCITED for this new book!
YES! This will be Oat's legacy in the Toki Pona community
One of the best ways to learn a language is to practice by consuming media! More toki pona books would be a great way to help and expand the community!

@@qwaabza are you familiar with tokiponist TH-camr jan Misali, and their show Conlang Critic?
Find the episode on the language ido and go to the comments. It’s a wild ride.
To be honest the language sounds like newspeak form 1984 but not used to suppress people speech and thoughts
Ive heard it described aa "Lib-left Newspeak" before, couldnt tell you wherw
there are a lot of straight up anarchists in the community so i find the comparisons to newspeak very funny
It's a comparison that you see people mention a lot at first glance, but really it's not actually close at all. toki pona gives you a deeper understanding of the things you talk about, by focusing on describing the important parts instead of having tons of set jargon. Newspeak was created to have very rigid and specific meanings to make certain ideas impossible. Really the only thing in common is that they're small
Newspeak allows for few specific words, while Toki Pona allows for few general words.
we do joke about newspeak quite a bit but they're not equivalent because they have completely opposite goals and philosophies
I started learning toki pona about ten days ago. Very satisfying. And it's changing the way I think about English.
Because of this video i'm gonna start to learn toki pona this week
sina wile pali e toki pona tu tenpo ni
Also I am SO EXCITED for su! Now I'm wondering what all the other titles will be used for... (ju, lu, nu, u)
I hope you have a fun time reading the book Oats!
(Bc en is not and, you can't use it to link concepts - "su ni en tenpo kama la su ante" would be interpreted as "with regards to this su and the coming time, different su", which also works!)
Thank you for this one too :D yayyyyyy su yippee friends mentioned Yayyy
there's another issue, in "nasin pali e su", e doesn't just make modifiers or other words into having their transitive verb meanings and doesn't really make sense gramatically if it's not in a full sentence, not in standard nasins of toki pona anyways. (the concept of a verb form that functions as a noun (which in english is with -ing) doesn't exist in toki pona, you just use the noun meaning)
as you probably know, the correct term there would instead be "nasin pi pali su", which instead of "way of creating this book", literally means "way of creation of this book", which essentially says the same thing.
lmao trying to decode what he was saying hurted my brain a little but i guess it technically gets the message across
I had heard about Toki Pona a really long time ago and since then I were interested in it. But I never really tried to learn it and I think that after watching your videos I will
Oats always passes the vibe check of my heart ❤
I just watched the first Toki Pona video :D I'm sure this vid is also going to be super great and well made, like all of your vids :)
So, the book titles, pu ku su...that makes up tokiponafication of the word 'books', right? I remember reading rice boy when it was first coming out, so cool that he's illustrating this too! mi wili lukin e su!
wile*, actually
I’m already loving it! 😍 ❤❤

YEAH SU BOOKS
You should try your hand at making a conlang, it can be a lot of fun
considering how learning toki pona took a month creating a whole conlang that at the very least isn't smaller than toki pona would probably take more than that
nice
I predict the next Toki Pona novelettes will be Alice in Wonderland or The Little Prince.
New book 🤔🧐
