The proportions between the blade and tsuka (handle) would suggest that this is actually a nagamaki, as it’s around 50/50, a nodachi or odachi, if you prefer, has a blade that covers about 2/3 of the overall length.
From what I've seen, Nodachi typically have hilt lengths of about 12-13" and blade length of around 4 ft, whereas Nagamaki have blades that are about 3 ft and hilts that are around 2 ft. The website states that this sword has a 34" blade and a 23" handle which means that it is almost a perfect match for the description of a Nagamaki, it must of simply been a naming mistake. But in the end names don't change the effectiveness of a blade, it's still a deadly weapon no matter what you call it.

Japanese martial arts, even the ones with swords, don't use the arms to cut, but the whole body, exactly like in many fighting sports like boxing, you must use your hips/guts (called "hara" in japanese) to have strength. So that demonstration by big muscled mustached guys is just far from a real nodachi style, not even talking about the quality of the sword that is more a nagamaki than a nodachi.
***** it's not that we expect them to be japanese swords men. But I can tell you just from watching, their movements and leg positioning, they are not trained in a weapon style. And last lastly why is the blade so short? It's suppose to be 49 inches? Not 36 lol.

I cant figure it out... a pole arm usually is a heavier on the nose if it like a pole axe or heavier on the rear of it like spear. But since a it is half blade logic might say the balance should be like a quarter staff but the hilt doesn't go all half way of the length of the weapon. So I think the balance should be put in the mid point of the hilt length. That's IMO. :/

no one asked your height
does the nodachi have the same abilities as the katana but just more of a polearm?
Does your company make custom swords? Or are you willing to make small modifications to a weapon at the request of a customer?
the bridge between a polearm and a sword is called halfhanding and its normally done with longswords
Just out of curiosity, do you use the same sword for all cuts on the video or do you use a fresh sword each time you change objects?
Kinda late to this lol but same one
Is this back in production? Cold steel UK has this as 'out of stock'
I might be wrong but are nodachi supposed to be longer?
sure splitting a whole pig in half is impressive but WTF the basketball was split exactly in half, any idea how sharp it needs to be to do something that impressive?
No clue. Remember that time they brought out a meat bicycle?
Why didn't you try it while running because isn't Nodachis supposed to be used for charges?
I like the way they respect the sheath.
Have you guys ever used some of the cut meat for a company cookout?
I cant figure it out... a pole arm usually is a heavier on the nose if it like a pole axe or heavier on the rear of it like spear. But since a it is half blade logic might say the balance should be like a quarter staff but the hilt doesn't go all half way of the length of the weapon. So I think the balance should be put in the mid point of the hilt length.
That's IMO. :/
@mushroom0metalhead what qualifies you to judge expert craftsmen? What makes you think you could make and/or use these weapons any better huh?
This is beautiful! I can't decide whether to buy this or the "Dragonfly" Katana. I'm 6'6", 200lbs, fast, strong, and trained well in Bushido, so if I buy this I can save the world pretty much :P.
You are trying too hard.
When you try your best but you don't succeed
more interested in the music but I'd always wanted a nagamaki ...er...nodachi??? :D
Is the music custom or instrumental covers of existing songs?
hey cold steel, what would you say is your most formidable weapon?
How many bodies sword do you think your sword is? I know there is no way to test that now lol.
Seems to have a slightly weak bone cutting power despite being long... maybe weight balance issue?
Cold steel are one of the best knife I ever seen those knife are in destructible I love the tanto expecially the trench knife .
absolutly amazing.
so are they selling this sword to the public or do u have to have a licence ?
Chad Alex most places you can just buy it online. check your state laws though on buying and shippibg swords
This is giving me some good idead (or bad ones depending on perspective haha) just purchased a half price AISI 1095 DH maru nodachi from Ryan Sword! When it gets here gonna have to try a couple of these cuts out. You guys make the best cut videos on the web and this is a crazy blade too but you could do with some custom options on your blades but that is my complaint of most production blades. All Im sayin is you would make a killing with good blades like that if you offered more choices and flexibillity in your line-up. Thanks for that insane cut video very over the top as always!
Yeah gonna wear hockey helmet with cage, neck guard, safety glasses under the cage, I find hockey equiptment in general is good protection from blades because they can protect your vital areas from a skate blade slashing you
I have to say, this looks more like a Nagamaki than a Nodachi.
