I bought a Dragonfly katana to protect myself from hanging pig carcasses and dangling ropes. I've never felt safer.
I'm seriously thinking about getting one for clearing brush, the single bevel is awesome for green wood. You basically have a longest machete combined with a swedish knife.

I'm sure he's a great guy, and quite skilled with a sword, but if he's going to try to train people in an athletic endeavor, he should be athletic himself.
I neither made childish comments nor insults. I simply stated facts. Maybe the Batman comment was a little childish, but no more than the Cold Steel videos. I stated that he gets out of breath easily and that his stomach gets in the way. Those are facts supported by video evidence. He should, in fact, learn portion control. I would say the same thing to his face, but geography limits me. You'll notice I use my real name on TH-cam, not a pseudonym. I'm not hiding behind anonymity. You can question my tact, but not my integrity.
It would be shitty of me to call him out in person, but this is the TH-cam comments section. Tact, manners, subtlety, those are all relics of the real world. If you post something on YT, you have to expect some bashing. To do otherwise is like going into a bar and being mad that a drunk guy bumped into you. Seriously, though, Lynn should lose weight. I bought this Katana about 2 years ago. It is lighter an better balanced than the warrior swords. Simple yet gorgeous, and VERY functional. It really is my pride and joy.

Well, gardening can be very dangerous in my area. In all seriousness I would grab my gun in case of a break in, but this is an excellent sword for a martial artist. I have trained with this weapon and I can assure you it still works just as good as the old days.

@@KevinGeaslin a katanas primary function is to cut. That is why it is curved. It CAN thrust but I dont recommend using it if you wanted to stab. Use a straighter sword with a nice point for a better thrust. Just because you can doesnt mean you should
Many kenjutsu kata end with a thrust, it was easier to thrust to an opening in the armor than try to slice through. Plus, the kissaki of a katana is reinforced to give the point stability@@TenkayKaze

Toshi i personally think using 2 swords could hold at one's disadvantage... you dont have as much force in the swing as you do double-wielding just one katana... but my master in kenjutsu was a 2 sword style user and he said it depends on the person. (by the way, my master has yet to be defeated in a 1v1 match)

I spent 9 years training with a Katana and only 1 year training in HEMA and i find Longsword's a much better weapon by far, Not as much sheer cutting power but far more versatile and in the end deadlier.
Eh depends on the situation/enemy equipment at the end of the day it doesn't matter anyway since there are no real world activities which would require either of them any weapon can kill now days since nobody is protected or even armed anymore.

katana wasnt even close to other japanese weapons in terms of lethality. it is a glorified sidearm and nothing more. Its like in modern millitary. All soldiers are going through basic training and learn about the main issue rifles, but they get specializations in other weapons, equipment, vehicles etc. katanas were caried by everyone, but used rarely in combat

not to totally nerd out here but they're all swinging completely wrong lol. the japanese did not swing with such force. rather, they would swing in the cleanest and straightest line and let the sharpness of the blade work its magic. i have never swung a katana nor will i ever but this is something i learned in medieval studies in uni.
Correct! Nearly all of those swings were way overpowered and if you saw the deflection drive them off course also bad swings and probably because way too much power was applied. Anthony Duarte its a back up sword or close quarter sword worn by samurai called wakizashi . its not that they were fighting with two swords. its also used for ritual suicide . you can also use it for shaving.
For seppukku a Tantou is used. Wakizashi is intended to be a one-handed weapon, normally worn by Samurai as how you said, a backup weapon.

Katana don't bend and go back to their shape, once bent they stay that way. Western swords have a more flexible steele which also wobbles when cutting. Traditionally a katana is way harder, which makes it easier to snap but also more forgiving in the cutting, the stiffness of the blade eliminates the wobble.

First off these are not anywhere close to forged swords, they are production swords and are in the $400 range.
And these people happen to be the owners, designers, and testers on the company Cold Steel. They may not be following traditional forms, and just using a lot of brute force, but they are all very well versed in martial arts, and the whole point of these videos is to show the capability of the sword, not the person behind it.
if they were "well versed" then they would know how to swing it correctly, and it doesn't matter if they're using traditional forms or not, swinging it correctly does show off the sword. if he swung it correctly he would've been able to go through that pig in one strike, and then i would've been impressed, but now i don't know how strong or sharp that sword actually is because they want to swing it like a bat. you don't show off a new guitar by having someone who has never played try and play it, you don't show off a new computer to someone who doesn't know how to use it, and the same goes for this. you don't show off a katana by having a bunch of people incorrectly swing it. it literally takes 3 seconds to learn how to swing it correctly, which just makes this all the more sad
... so you don't do any live blade practice of your own then.
The point is that they are not really advertising to sword people, or at lest people who like to nit pick over technicality and historical accuracy. Any decently knowledged sword fan should look at a Cold Steel sword and see the POB and weight, and laugh, because these swords they make are practically baseball bats.
If you are into proper swords man ship and practice, you start with a proper sword. Cold Steel makes over built tank swords, not the best for practicing proper martial arts. If you are into that you look at Cas Hanwei or Cheness or Dynasty Forge, and Albion to name a few.
i do practice with live blades, and i have multiple katanas. i never said anything about historical accuracy all i said is that if you're going to show off a sword you should at least swing it the right way to fully demonstrate its power.
just curious, what do you think is the "right way" to swing a sword? you act like they're doing it wrong, but how would you know unless you actually knew the "right way" to do it? the secret is there is no "right way" to do anything. and unless you can explain what is actually wrong with their swings, then you're full of shit. just saying "that's wrong" doesn't mean anything. anybody can say that. it's just a subtle brag to try and convince people that you're a master swordsman who spends all his time on youtube for some reason
