In the old days, even swords made by famous master craftsmen were unrecognizable until they were cut. Therefore, criminals sentenced to death had their torsos cut in half in an execution called ikidameshi. By the way, there is a record that the torso of seven people was cut in half at once.
This must be one of my favourite Cold Steel test videos, well done guys! Keep up the good work! Thanks
These promos are hilarious. I totally want to buy one of these swords.

Lynn C Thompson is remarkably spry for such a stocky guy, and surprising good at throwing sharp objects not actually designed to be thrown. I can't help but click like on any video showing him in his natural element - cutting things apart with a giant knife. I've actually ordered a knife from Cold Steel just because these videos have inspired me.
It's hilarious watching Andrew's face while he chops w/ his Katana "This is the guy that invented the TriAd lock"
Yeah I was wondering if that was him lol. His designs are what people like from coldsteel. Only mall ninjas like their other stuff lol
Holy moly. Amazing how I never see any other knife manufacturer test their products like this. Exact reason why I go to cold steel for all my knife needs. Don’t even look at another brand.
100% agreed. Not even a thought to buy another brand. I have over 50 blade types from CS and I've never been disappointed even 1%.
This is why I chose Cold Steel for my knife brand. Maybe I'll try others later, but probably not.

He's saying 'dai', which is something Japanese that they yell when swinging the sword. I don't know what it means, we have google for a reason.

Amazing Japanese swords. ⚔️
1:10 this guy just be like “man I love my job”
刀も凄いけど、この人達の技術も凄い
So I've ranked the ability of these guys from the video based on their positioning and basically how effectively they cut.
1. The taller guy with the sandy hair and beard. He cuts very precisely, doesn't use too much force, and makes sure he returns the blade to it's original position. I love watching him for tips.
2. The more bulky guy with the longest hair of the testers. Very smooth and precise, he lines up multiple cuts very well.
3. The more well built guy with the hair that is shaved on the sides and longer on the top. He's similar to number one in making precise swings and doesn't over swing most of the time.
4. The man, the legend, the guy I keep forgetting his name who shouts "Die/Dai" most of the time. He's been the business for a pretty long time, but it doesn't help his swing much. Sometimes the force he puts in is a bit too much, and sometimes he doesn't get that wrist/forearm action that he needs to cut through that last mat. Not like these rankings matter too much, as long as they're selling product and having fun testing these nicely forged weapons.
5. The bald guy. This guy needs some major lessons, half the time he swings the sword like a baseball bat. He always looks like he's not having too much fun. Less waist action and more fine control dude, or like a healthy balance of both. Either way, he's unfortunately in last place. Take some tips from number one, please.
And that concludes the rankings. I love watching these Cold Steel testing videos, it's not just bottles and gallons of water, it's meat and bones and tatami mats. The stabbing through car hoods makes me cringe in the classic sense of the word. You're gonna scratch up the blade man!
#4 Is Lynn C Thompson, the president of Cold Steel himself. He eats, breaths, and shits martial arts of all forms and the others are his sparring partners and instructors, if I remember correctly.
Bob Haynes thanks for helping me remember. Yknow, for a president of one of the most consistent quality blades, he would polish his swings. Like the velocity isn’t bad but I wish everyone could recover their swings better instead of just holding the stance at the end. I’ve seen this video dozens of times along with others, both earlier and later, and it just seems kind of weird.
@@123gameloverGood observations. I think the holding of the position after the cut is for dramatic effect. It's not like they have to recover immediately out of fear of an attack, it's just a cutting demonstration. Your critique of the cutting techniques used is fair, although I think the bald guy just likes to be focused when he's cutting, maybe that's why he doesn't look happy lol. I myself have tried to get tips for slashing and cutting by watching these guys. Water bottles don't stand a chance against me now!👍🔪🗡️

I'm seeing a lot of baseball swings here, guys...
Yeah, I guess if all you are trying to do is cut a static object, a big swing is fine. It would likely get you killed in a real fight though, but I assume you all know that.
+csknives Here is what yoy need to remember, it is a SABER type weapon, NOT an axe. You SLICE with a saber, not chop. You are doing your blades (Which are quite nice) a disservice by not showing their true capabilities. Your blades cut MUCH better in the hands of a swordsman. Find one, or if you are in houston, give me a ring.
carful!!!!! they will block you for bad talking them....... uck..... smh
+Harrison Wilbanks I'm not bad talking them, I am trying to keep them from mocking their own blades by their lack of personal skill. I had a friend who was a great gunsmith, but couldn't hit anything farther than 20 yards. With a rifle. With a scope. But he did some of the finest quality machining I ever saw, he just couldn't use his own product. You don't see fat old ladies from Mexico or India wearing Victoria's Secret lingerie down the aisle do you? So why have an amateur demonstrate the cutting ability of a fine blade? And I am not just being a dick here, I have practiced kenjutsu for about the last 5 years, and after all that time, I am still amateur myself, but these guys look like they are swinging an axe and chopping fire wood.
