Hi Liezl! I've been considering a gum graft but it's so painful from what I have heard. :-/ Did you use tissue from the roof of your mouth or donor tissue?
I used tissue from the roof of my mouth. Yeah I would recommend if you do that like me, then make sure you go to a dr that makes you a retainer that protects palate while it heals. Makes it much easier to eat. Also if you can take NSAIDS (anti inflammatory medication) it will make your recovery less better. I cannot take this and so it made the recovery more painful! Also - make sure you find a dr you like. I went to 3 before choosing one I liked. I had a lot of teeth done, so if you only do a few it will be much easier too! Even though it was painful I'm glad I did it, because it would have been more problems later on if I didn't do it! Hope that helps :)

Everyone is different, so just depends on what works for you - both could be helpful. I find journaling what you eat is only helpful if you're looking to see a pattern - something that is making you feel sick, giving you a headache, or trying to understand why you might be gaining weight etc. But if you wanna journal and put the calories in there that could be helpful for keeping track. You could also use an app to keep track of calories. I usually meal prep when i wanna keep track or calories. Personally I think journaling can lead to excessive rumination and overthinking. I find the LoseIt app helpful because you can tell it what your priorities are and easily track calories, protein and fiber and not spend too much time on it obsessing over every last thing you ate. I also like that you can tell it if you want to lose extra slowly (which is helpful if you are a petite woman who can’t go too fast, or are someone who just get hungry easily and you’d rather just take it slow and steady). It doesn’t set the pace for you or tell you what to do, you get to decide. It’s very low pressure and helps me stay on track and stay true to my priorities without having to spend a lot of time over analyzing it. The app also helps identify patterns, so for example I have learned that on days I eat yogurt, tuna and berries I tend to do an extra good job of consistently meeting my protein and fiber goals while staying within my calorie target range. With that said if you tend to be overly fixated on calories and find yourself slipping into a restrictive mindset where you focus too much on what you can’t eat and not enough of what you can and should nourish yourself with, it’s probably best to consult with a register dietitian and mental health professional. At the end of the day this is a journey you need to take from a place of wanting to properly nourish yourself and make your life easier rather than adding extra stress.
