As someone with no experience with tattoos or tattoo machines, I've been looking for a tutorial on how to make these for general drawing use ever since I saw McBess with one back in 2014. Thank you so much!
Came from TikTok and am so thankful for this! I love stippling but I have some early carpal tunnel that prevents me from doing it for long periods of time. Looking forward to trying something new to help me along!!!
I hope it’s helps, definitely try a lower setting on then power supply and use a piece of felt under your work it will help take out some of the harsher impact of the machine
Thanks, I'm thinking of making one. I'd suggest poking a small hole in the back of the pen tube with a hot needle so that air can replace the ink as it flows out of the tip and doesn't create a vacuum inside the tube.
This is not a substitute for learning to properly tattoo , they way this feels and the way skins feels are completely different. If you are interested in tattooing professionals I’ll probably document some of my apprenticeship soon
Your welcome. I'm bored makingbthem too. My bunk channel travis vincent pranteau. Anyway u can give me some pointers. I need a foot pedal n volume speed instead of batteries. But I made these kind before. I made lots
Sometimes you need to choose a lesser material to get the job done, it’s just more accessible and easy to work with for people with out the proper tools to cut steel tubing haha
Is it possible to a stippling pen holder like this but that allows me to insert any pen of my choice? I know that Cuttlelola produces electric stippling pens, but as far as I understand, they only work with their specific pen cartridges. I would like to buy a machine like this that allows me to insert any pen of my choice.
It’s apart of the rotary machine need bar that come with this machine that’s linked in my description, you can also just remove it and use masking tape to hold the 2 together
It’s takes more time than it’s worth, I mad e a small batch last year that sold out but barley above the cost of the materials, I no longer have as much free time to make them anymore but maybe one day I’ll make them again
Please be careful; I do not condone or recommend at-home tattooing, even with just a pen as pretend. A rotary machine does not bog down the same way a coil machine does, so please be careful.
I’m sure you could do it with a cool machine but it would need to be modified to fit the pen or needle bar and the hit would be less accurate most likely
I have seen a few dot pens, the benefit of this is more for tattooers having a controllable speed really let’s you us so like a regular machine, I definitely want to try some of those cool dot pens.
Material can fluctuate depending on the quality of parts you use. You can get very cheap rotary tattoo machines they are not good for actual tattooing but are great for this dot pen. I have a list of parts I used in the description, but there are cheaper alternatives as well
I have considered it, but for what the cost would be there are better build sets ups that are more cost effective now, after the tiktok video went viral a ton of companies with more resources made kits
Was an apprentice but got really screwed over by the last shop I was at. I’m living in a different city now and a shop here wants me to bring some paintings in, I just don’t have the free time to paint as much anymore working to many jobs right now to survive.
I would love to see what kind of art you guys make with your dot pens, tag me with what you make, I would love to see it ❤

I’m glad it was helpful, those old McBess videos where always so inspiring

No problem, its super fun and easy, definitely tag me with any art you make with your dot pen, I would love to see it.
Did you try making this?.
I got a cuttlelula pen for xmas and the design had me wondering of you could modify tattoo equipment to use pen. seems like a fun project
It’s definitely possible
Love this, this is going to help learn how to tattoo big time thank you

@@WolfPits definitely not. :) but it just helps understanding the machine a bit better tho
My god that’s a monster😂 it works though so I’ll give ya that😉
I know its hilarious, did you come from tiktok? that little viral video sparked an entire industry of dots pens 😂 I have made zero $$$ from it
Great Video!!
Very helpful and straight to the point.
Is there a way to use fine liners (Micron for ex.) with it?
I really like the way u make them
Thanks man

@@travisvincentpranteau5802 yeah I have some links to a really decent power supply that come with a clip cord and foot pedal
@@WolfPits that's what I was looking for a foot pedal n volt speed changer. Mine are just fast jail made. Just a habbit when I'm bored
@@travisvincentpranteau5802 yeah the one is have listed are sturdy and reliable option for this but not for actual tattoo
Thank you so much for this.
I hope it is helpful
- Thank you so much! 💛🙏🏼💛

25 years as a tattoo artist and i just got why people asked me if I was also good at engraving lol

There are a few options available now, most of them off set the center or the pen tip
The “grip tape” is called Coband
Yep, also known as sports wrap, sports tape, cofex, athletic wrap. Has many names and many purposes
how did the “needle” get the buff part on the end?
Was already on there. But you could also just tape it to the side of the pen ink cartridge
Cool if you cut the pen it would not be so long but ima probably try this awsome bro
What’s the white plastic thing that you sanded to plug the pen tube with?
It’s apart of the rotary machine need bar that come with this machine that’s linked in my description, you can also just remove it and use masking tape to hold the 2 together
🌄💎💎💎💎🔥thank you for this knowledge!!! Sincerely
Glad it was helpful
This is so cool!! Is there any way this could be used with a pencil or graphite lead? Or would it be too fragile / impossible to sharpen?
🤔 maybe with a clutch pencil and lead pointer. The impact might be to much for the graphite to handle but it definitely could be made
@@WolfPits thanks so much for the quick reply! If I try it out, I'll let you know!
@@HeatherHitchmanArt I would love to see what you make
Anyway I can just buy one from you?

Tiktok GANGGANG this is so cool. I was fighting the urge to get a tattoo gun but I just might so I can fake tattoo myself.
Please be careful; I do not condone or recommend at-home tattooing, even with just a pen as pretend. A rotary machine does not bog down the same way a coil machine does, so please be careful.
Is there a way to use a micron??
Yes, use a larger tube and a full sized needle bar. Use to piece of tape. The chuck might need to be drilled to accommodate the larger tube.
Would this fit a sharpie?
It could be modified with a different set of tubes to fit anything but the metal crisp would not fit
Does it have to be a rotary? I have a bunch of old machines but not a rotary
I’m sure you could do it with a cool machine but it would need to be modified to fit the pen or needle bar and the hit would be less accurate most likely
Do you sell these?
unfortuelty I don't have time to manufacture them.
have you seen inkipen? i think its more ergonomic and user friendly.
I have seen a few dot pens, the benefit of this is more for tattooers having a controllable speed really let’s you us so like a regular machine, I definitely want to try some of those cool dot pens.
Could you do this with a rotary tattoo pen?
I think you could you just might need to make some adjustments.
@@WolfPits also my girlfriend is thinking about getting into tattooing. Any ideas on gifts or ways to help her get into it?
Does anyone know about how much material cost
Material can fluctuate depending on the quality of parts you use. You can get very cheap rotary tattoo machines they are not good for actual tattooing but are great for this dot pen. I have a list of parts I used in the description, but there are cheaper alternatives as well
Would the ink leak out from all the motion?
I have not expeirnced this yet.
Would you ever just make a setup for someone and sell it as a whole?
I have considered it, but for what the cost would be there are better build sets ups that are more cost effective now, after the tiktok video went viral a ton of companies with more resources made kits
@@WolfPits could you send me a link to a couple?
Do you even tattoo?

Umm no
GFY☺️
Germs and bacteria can't live on copper
Same with brass but this is not for tattooing skin only paper substrates
