My stipple portraits take me 30+ hours from start to finish and though something like this would potentially save me a whole load of time, I simply couldn't. There's something satisfying and comforting in knowing I did every last one of those dots myself and it was time invested in something I truly love doing.
maybe you can use it only in the parts that need lots of obscurity or that are suposed to be messy and more random, but I couldn't think of using it in every kind of drawing or part of the drawing
Sup Yekta EXACTLY! My very first and ONLY Best In Show ribbon was a huge stippling piece in a show for 10 area high schools back in 1986. My sweet lil’ Japanese mother would show it to her sushi restaurant customers while trying to explain there were no solid lines. I’d get SO embarrassed.... horrified! She passed 7 years ago, the restaurant closed, and that drawing is in some closet. It’s been years since I put any art instrument to paper which I’m trying to rectify. This video brought back some memories and a LOT of emotion!!! Right now, I’m pretty darn proud of that mass of dots. You will too❣️ Keep at it. Sure wish I could see the finished masterpiece. 😉👍
Probably would have liked to have seen you test the pen on a variety of things rather than just testing on the usual tin cans, glasses, spoons, lights, food, water pipes, a sink, toilet paper, exercise ball, etc.
I literally spent the entire video trying to decide what this drawing is of. 1st half: Billowing tones of gargantuan Greco-Roman gods? No. 3rd quarter: Head of dragon? (Tilt 45° to right) 4th quarter: some sort of mutating plant/goo Now I am convinced that this is an abstracted squid spirit shooting out of stormy waves. What is wrong with me
honestly? thank u for talking about how pointillism is supposed to be slow and time consuming, i personally love it because of that fact and while i would like to try out a pen like this i would never leave traditional stippling
The intro had me cackling until the chip with eyes and then I was just in tears while laughing. I love your sense, Peter. Thank you for the quality content!

I'm a fairly new subscriber and I have spent most of the day, binge-watching your videos. I frickin love your videos. There! I've said it. Now we can move forward with this subscriber/creator relationship.
BaWaNaDon I volunteer to let him tattoo me! I'm all about random tattoos from people who know nothing about what they're doing! the story is so worth it!
As an artist with arthritis/chronic pain (especially in my hands/joints), things like this could be so useful for someone with disabilities who might have trouble doing traditional stippling in their art but want to at least get the effect. Love your videos and how this piece turned out, Peter!
I think you probably would have enjoyed it more on the lower setting. A lot of your issues were with the lack of control, speed and precision, but you were on high speed so it's not exactly fair. That being said it's a great video and for being adamantly opposed to it, you made a beautiful piece with the pen. The montage was actually hilarious too.
But my point is this is a mechanical pen that's supposed to be 10 times faster than traditional stippling. On the lower setting I don't think it would have been 10 times faster, and like I said at the beginning, if I'm not using it at its full power, if I'm just gonna go slow and careful with it, why not actually go slow and careful and do REAL stippling.
Did you ever try acid?Or was your imagination naturally this gifted?Either way, your work is amazing and I would love to have one or more of your drawings hung up on my wall.
for the dark areas it looks great! for when you don't need precision or to see individual dots but just want a dark nightskyy backdrop. that's usually when i start cheating and use a thicker pen and then it also looks like cheating and makes me sad
I agree with you completely that the time, slowness, exactitude of stippling is part of what makes it amazing. Comparing that pen to "traditional" stippling is like comparing machine versus hand embroidery. (And yeah, people do still hand embroider!) Part of the result is the knowledge of the time and care that went into it. There is a buddhist element to a lot of art where the process is just as important or even more important than the result. Thanks for the review Peter!
Not that but the fact that your trying to get good to make thumbnails is a bit sad not trying to make you feel sad or anything but i feel like you could get so much better if you do it for yourself instead that for the thumbnails.
Someone should make a character based on you Peter, I love the way you express yourself, very unique and I love that! I really enjoy watching your videos. So yeah I get what you was saying about the difference between traditional stippling and the automatic stippling pen, mainly the difference is in the level of control and the speed at which you go. I have adhd so the pen would be good for me as I quickly lose interest, saying that I do also go into hyper focus, thanks for the demo, I like it when you demo stuff because you show us what's available and your videos are amusing and you produce really cool stuff, thanks xxx
