This might sound a little lame, but this video actually made me a little emotional. I played this game as a kid (was born in the late 90s) and always dabbled in it here and there. Then, in 2016 I left school and got into it in a much larger way and started going to events. This was a period when it was still branded as the Hobbit, and things were hard to get hold of, the rules situation was disjointed and odd, and third parties were filling in the gaps. We thought it was surely dying. But James, Jamie, Damian and Tom provided us with so much fun content and a community to be proud of, encouraging us to support the Hobbit hobby! I used to watch everything, including livestreams. During one of these, James was very kind and supportive towards me as I was sitting in my car, anxiously waiting for a job interview at my FLGS. I got the job, and never forgot that moment. James probably doesn’t remember, and it was a small moment in his life, but it was massive to me. I remember being so happy for him from afar when he had his daughter, and I’m grateful for the time he invested in the community. Without those guys, I don’t think the game would exist today. I feel extremely nostalgic for that period, when I was 18/19, we were trawling eBay for OOP models, playing interesting events, making do and converting proxies and writing community rules. I remember the One Ring forums and all the brilliant stuff on there. Hearing James’ voice just brought it all back to me. I didn’t realise how much that period meant to me until now.
Man, what a lovely comment and thank you so much for sharing! Those guys certainly did a lot for the community and I certainly know I wouldn’t be around doing this today if it wasn’t for James in particular. My first TH-cam appearances were with him over on HGG 😊 I think a lot of people forget about the dark days of the hobby when there was little hope that the game would continue to be supported, and that it’s only due to the dedication of a few people that the game is still around today.

It’s a nice chat and great production, appreciate you walking us through some of the changes. That said, I have a hard time taking any of your opinions to heart because they aren’t counterbalanced with anything critical of the new edition, and there is plenty to be critical of. Praising it for being streamlined and simplified without mention of how some of these changes likely also lead to a shallower game, or of missed opportunities for rules changes, just doesn’t paint a fair picture to me. Anyway, again I really enjoyed the chat I just think some people’s critical voices are being silenced in the wake of this new edition’s release and it’s a bit concerning.
@@_ccann some of the stuff I don’t potentially like is in other books that I don’t have access to yet, so I didn’t want to discuss those with only half the information at hand. Genuinely though, I think the new rulebook is an improvement all round.

Just wait a couple of months. There's a third army list book that is to be released. It is supposed to include a lot of the "extended universe" model. I feel like you a bit, but we'll see.
Some tournaments allow it and others don't plus many want the originals but find them hard or expensive to source so people who have them in abundance might release some into the second hand market. Just a little observation and potential positive ❤

@@BenjisHobbies isnt that a positive though to proxy models? If tournaments do allow them (though granted not all do) then some third party ones do look really good and are quite cheap, plus it gives a bonus and more reason to kit bash, though I really do agree on the thematic side you used (that there are not many guards of the fountain court, there essentially bodyguards, so a full army in narrative and cinematic sense does make no sense. @BenjisHobbies As I said, I don't hate the player. I love your content! im a bit surprised that light armour gives +1 against shooting attacks.....when arrows and bolts have always ripped through light armour with ease. Also its a shame its been given the title of Perfect or RUIN its "best" game, when you only talk about everything being good. As refs in games, id have thought you would have given some examples of what could be bad to the game (a good review looks at both sides)

There weren't any that made me think eerrrrr not sure about this! I can't think of any but that's just personal feelings. Hope you enjoyed the vid!
@@ArdaconInternationalMedia I did enjoy the video, but do you not think things like the +1 armour rule for light armour against shooting attacks a little strange? i mention this one because at one point in the video you mention that historical gamers etc say about realism of things that would happen (so made changes to take some stuff into account there) which I like thats really cool, but then a rule like that really isnt realistic, it would have made far more sense to have had it +1 in combat only as arrows and bolts would always rip through light armour easily. Also thanks for responding, I only say about the negatives because when people get a chance to review something early by GW its nice to also see what potential pitfalls there may be (as every game has them, nothing is perfect)
Thanks so much! I think the army lists will be very much like they were at the beginning of the last edition, but as we get more and more supplements more interesting army lists will be added 😊

Although cost is high, if anything thats GW's doing putting low effort into the range over the last 25 years
Great video! I have to admit that although I wish the very best for creators, I am a bit tired of the algorithm titles in the community. Just tell us what the video is about ❤
Don’t hate the player, hate the game 🤷🏼♂️
@BenjisHobbies As I said, I don't hate the player. I love your content! I just wish that things were different and that those titles wouldn't be needed since by now there is a convergence of any GW-related content titles which clashes with a video which is so sincere, friendly and charismatic as you two are in this video. Have a great weekend ❤️
@@none167 so do I… believe it or not titles and thumbnails are some of the most difficult parts of making a video. Imagine having to design a movie poster when most people have never even heard of you or seen the trailer… it’s an uphill struggle! If you listen to the podcast it’s something Olly and I will be discussing in a lot more detail in a future episode 😊
I love the rule changes, but I really don't like legacy and the army building changes.
I think it’ll take a while to get used to, but as new books come out they’ll get expanded 😊
So are the lists fixed?
Imagine not allowing someone to do 'With me!' because they didn't announce it at the start of moving the hero 😂 that is a bit tragic
It happened to me once. Never forgot to call it again! It shouldn’t need to be there but sadly some people play that way 😞
im a bit surprised that light armour gives +1 against shooting attacks.....when arrows and bolts have always ripped through light armour with ease. Also its a shame its been given the title of Perfect or RUIN its "best" game, when you only talk about everything being good. As refs in games, id have thought you would have given some examples of what could be bad to the game (a good review looks at both sides)
Thanks for the comment Kyle! Honestly, there was no intention to just give positive feedback on our observations but I think we're both excited and feeling positive about the changes!
Bes r summary i have seen. Thank you. Changes to the rules look great.. army lists will be a shambles for a while.
Thanks so much! I think the army lists will be very much like they were at the beginning of the last edition, but as we get more and more supplements more interesting army lists will be added 😊
The changes with the control zones are not clear 🤔🤔
When you read the book, they will be. It’s difficult to convey without images!
Core rules minus magic is better ,army options and building is absolutely the worst I've seen in a wargame now
@@oneeyedwonderer6781 I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve seen the books in full, made some lists and played some games 😊
Sounds to me all the flavour has gone in the newer edition.
Im a casual player not a tournament player, its same for all GW systems they are all getting bland to suit the competitive scene.
That price tag though.. ouch
Depends where you are in the world! My local gaming store is doing it for £112 which isn’t too bad, considering what you get!
Please remove the apostrophe from the title :))
Good spot! Done!
Army building is terribly worsened. Model options terribly worsened. No. Just no.
I think that new edition is dumbed down rather then streamlined. Im selling right know all my 7 armies for that system 😢
That's a shame buddy, not fancy playing a few games first and seeing how it feels?
@@jakubwydraa that’s a real shame dude. I’d give you some Entish advice - don’t be hasty! I’m sure as more supplements are released armies will become more fleshed out.
You can still play the old edition. No is taking that away from you. If not then how much you want for em?
@@thomasbeasley8621 you mean GW haven’t been round to confiscate your old rulebooks yet?
You can still play the old system 😂😅
Who says it's their best game?
@@horusheresy6949 me
It has the best 'player agency', lowest amount of luck, luck mitigation and widely regarded as the best rule set they've come up with in years
