I would have loved that too as those ones were perfect for conversion with the other kits of the same time such as zombies and skeletons. Of course I do understand why they aren’t coming back but I would have loved it all the same
I couldn't agree more. I understand why, but I loved the professional look of the 6th ed. troops. I'm looking at last sword miniatures paymaster's guard for my state troops personally. They look like they can afford shoes, for sure!
I would love to have enough of both feet that you could make a unit with or without shoes, but I guess I will make one unit where I take legs with shoes to replace the bare feet from other units and then have one unit with as many bare feet as possible.
Really excited for this! I will say I was really hoping for a Warrior Priest/Flagellant centric Cult of Sigmar army of infamy. But Empire was always my primary army. I'm excited to get some more stuff and start cleaning up my originals.

There are some very cool miniatures that find thei way back to us. Would love to see some of the other units you mentioned in your video come back. Would really love to get some variants for the steam tank.
I’d expect that the existing Imperial Dwarfs will be allowed as Mercenaries in the army, maybe even the Nuln army to represent the multicultural city it was. Could be the same for Halflings 🤞
I have a large, painted Empire army (Nuln), and a large backlog of unpainted figures. But I am STILL excited about this release! Regarding the made-to-order issue, I think you did a nice job explaining the pros and cons; I come down on the side of it being positive, as there are still multiple Bretonnian models I have not been able to purchase (I am in North America). I need to start on my Empire backlog! -Michael P.S. Good video.
I’ll be stoked to get that War Wagon, I always wanted one of those back in the day. I’m in Australia but most of my MTO have come pretty quickly so far maybe because I ordered straight away and they had some stock ready?
Didn't realize the article was out already too. I apparently was blind and only saw the short announcement video. Thought that was a bit scarce as an announcement lol. Anyways, glad to see what's up for the Empire. The 7th Edition State Troops are… unfortunate, but I have more than enough Halberdiers, Spearmen und Muskets for an army. The swordarms also fit very nicely onto the 7th Edition Greatswords, which are absolutely fantastic. I'm glad they are finally back. Shame that the Knights didn't get an update, but on the other hand I'm glad the the extra sprue for the Knights of the White Wolf is back. As well as the Grand Masters. Lovely models. I hope the Teutogen Guard is here to stay and not just a short made to order thing. I love those and will have to grab some. The Imperial Ogre looks fantastic, love it. Wonder how the ones with Great Weapons will look. Will have to grab some of those too. The War Wagon is also a lovely model, and the new Engineer is great. Glad they gave it new horses too (shame the Knights didn't get new ones. Theirs are the same as the old War Wagon horses). I just hope it will be at a sane price in its made to order window, I'll be moving cities for a job at the turn of the year, so money will be a bit tight. 😬 Oh, almost forgot: It's a bit of a shame that they went with the Gunnery school and Knightly Orders as Armies of Infamy. Especially Knightly Orders feels a bit generic as a cavalry army now that they also did it for Orcs and Chaos already. It's understandable as to why they did it, I just kinda wish they expanded a bit on Marienburg instead. Ah well, hopefully they'll do that later down the road, for now I can look forward to just fielding a massive army of Knights and show those dirty Bretonnians who is the better knight.
I can’t help but wonder if it would have been hard to focus on one of the four (TOW era) provinces and make them flavourful beyond the Grand Army list, without each having a bespoke unit. Then in turn you could only focus on two of the four. Now they may well have special characters for those regions, and they might add a flavour as such, and maybe even some rules that effect the army and choices (much like Ungrim kind of creates a proxy third list in the Dwarf book). So by adding Nuln and Knightly orders now, they can bring out more characters to add provincial flavour later on. It will be interesting to see if the characters in the book are Nuln and Knightly, or if one is Marienburg related. I can see a world where all armies get a second arcane journal, another couple of characters, lists and units. It’s certainly a way of keeping them fresh, expanding the narrative to different areas, and changing the gaming meta.
Nice review. The empire has to be one of the armies that has the most ways to get alternative models 3d printed, and even in plastic. I actually don't mind the quality of the old gw sculpts , maybe with the knights as the exception. But then again, those knights aren't THAT bad , and they would be quite easy and quick to paint, which IS something to keep in mind when building an entire army. The one thing that would get me to look for alternative models , would be the (un) availability of most old world models. That combined with the price ,i find to be the major issue with old world.
Thank you. I wouldn’t disagree with any of that really, I think the late 6th/early 7th edition models and onwards hold up pretty well. The knights definitely stand out against newer sculpts, but I don’t hate them in their own (they’re definitely quicker to paint for sure).
You were so right about the Milita and Mordheim players/collectors, it isn't like I have spent hundred££s on sprues of the Empire Milita sets this year! 😅

I had hoped for updated knights, but I'm not too disappointed as I already have an all-metal cavalry for my Empire army. Do you suppose they plan to up-sell some upgrade kits? There used to be one for making a Blazing Sun unit, so I wouldn't be surprised to see that returning.
It's a shame the War Wagon is a short window Made To Order model, as I really want one! I've asked my local stockist to get in the Arcane Journal for me, as I intend to field my 6th edition Empire Army as the Nuln one from that book, on account of owning 7 artillery pieces and over 50 handgunners......
I have been waiting for this. I do not care how much the box of militia figures cost, I will be buying at least three of them. They're the most flexible miniatures kit GW ever made!
That Ogre must be before even my time.. 😂 New generals look cool and I'll be glad to pick up the old Grandmasters and Teutogen Guard. Still waiting on a restock of newer Old World models like Ungrim, Lady Duchard and the newer Brettonian BSB's here in the US.. It'd be nice to get those on peoples Christmas lists but we're probably getting down to the wire.

I for one am pretty excited by the release of empire and what was shown already. The war wagon will be cool to get, I do hope they will make enough as it isn’t wonderful still waiting on the O&G stuff all these months later. Shame it is MTO at all really but you have likely made a very good point about it probably being a pain the cast. The imperial ogre looks awesome holding a light cannon as though it was a rifle, price dependent I would love to get one just for the sake of having that miniature regardless of rules etc. Luckily I still really like the knights kit so I’m not that fussed about no replacement minis. For new minis I would just like them to be for new unit types etc for now at least until everyone has had a chance to stock up on what was previously OOP

Yep it says a large MTO towards the bottom of the article, so I expect quite a few more things (of which Halflings could get some time). I still wonder if we won’t see some other bits as well.
Somewhat tangebly related to the topic of 'no new plastic kits'. It appears that some of the returning plastics might actually remastered in a sense. Upon closer inspection you can see that on the War Altar and the General of the Empire kit references to Karl Franz ( inscriptions with his name, and his coat of arms featuring his initals ) were removed and replaced with ones dedicated to Sigmar instead. Mayhaps on other kits aswell like the State Troops and the Griffon - still looking into it. So apparently GW did more than just re-re-package what is currently sold under the AoS line. New molds and everything.
That’s interesting. From memory aren’t they hey just alternate build options on some armour plates? The General of Griffon kit had at least three build options, one as Karl Franz, one as a mage, another as a generic general. I’m pretty sure you go different chest armour to choose on the griffon. Think the other kits you mentioned had similar options as well.
Oh I’m not saying you’re wrong, just offering a potential explanation. It’s great if they have. Do you have the link, I’d be interested in looking into this further? I’ll try and find out for sure.
Personally I’d have loved to see either a Cult of Sigmar or Cult of Ulric army of infamy, but still excited for Nuln and Knightly Orders. Personally I like the old knights so happy they’re returning. The Imperial Griffon is a bit funny for this time period as it has so many Karl Franz symbols on it, but still a great model.
I’m hoping there are Priest characters or profiles in the Arcane Journal that could maybe unlock a priest based army (bit like Ungrim does for the Slayers). The plastic Griffon kit has at least 3 build options, one was supposed to be Karl Franz I think, but it builds a generic General and a Mage as well.
The model choices are pretty much what I expected. I'm a little disappointed with the armies of infamy though. Given that the gunline is kinda the only way to be vaguely competitive with empire at the moment it would have been nice to see another direction. I fully expect us to see them develop the Marienburg side of things though, and I'm hoping the Teutogen guard hint at greater diversity within the empire roster with regards to the different states/state alliances.
I wonder if we will see a special character unlock another kind to build a bit like Ungrim does. While I’m excited for Nuln because that’s what I’m building, I’m with you on the gun line thing, so interested to see how work the rules for that, and if there’s anything in the book that helps infantry at all.
The reason we didn't get a plastic War Wagon is because that's being planned for AoS Cities of Sigmar. I am willing to wager there are new plastic Forsaken for Chaos and Empire Inner Circle Knights in the works as well as those rumoured Reiksguard footknights (whose CAD files were copied and pasted for the new Knights of the Realm on foot). What are the Greenskin's new plastic kit? I can't figure it out...
The pattern has been that MTOs have an obvious TOW or AoS alternative. I wonder if this means we’ll see a suspiciously convenient Wagon proxy when the Cities of Sigmar release lands?
The War Wagon being made to order really worries me. An entirely new sculpt, and a heavily remastered one and they're making it a timed exclusive? Just w h y . Someone suggested that mayby its just the bundle of the two thats made to order - before becoming available on their own for a mark up? Not sure it makes much sense, but hopefully.
That could work out, but yes it does appear odd. If it does turn out to be MTO and it’s not a mistake in the article, then I wonder if the plans on it had to change for some reason, as I can’t imagine all that work being worth it otherwise.
@@MiniatureRealms The freaking Bonegrinder Giant is here to stay. I'm sure GW sold some to like seven flipping people. But I just can't come up with any explanation why the wagon and/or the engi' would go away. Is this literally just a scummy Fomo tactic?
@DerOrk I hope not. From the limited access I do have to a few people who work there in the know, the balance between fomo and them just miss-forecasting/not making enough/not being anole to keep up with their own huge range leans very heavily towards the later. As much as the internet would like to think it’s all an evil plan.
Im in Spain, im still waiting for my Dragon company..... I send them an email ans they basically told me that i can only start asking afetr the 6 months has passed.....
I am reminded of the New Coke scam from the 1980's. Age of Sigmar is New Coke, annoying and alienating fans of Warhammer Fantasy. Now the old sculpts are reintroduced as the Classic Coke of GW, except they'll cost three times as much. If we're lucky.
do you think GW should invest a lot more in recreating some of the ranges and update them for the old world? do you think it would have sale potential as good or better than AoS if that was the case? I think they are dumb not doing so
I’m not sure it’s a simple as that, but yes I’d definitely like to see them update the ranges eventually, and hope that the game is successful enough to make that happen. It’s a big topic around the way in which GW work, and how The Old World, the SDS side of the business (ex Forgeworld) operate within that. I’ve made a few videos where I discuss this, so I’d probably direct you there rather than write an essay length answer 😅. th-cam.com/video/NZn6KFo7LMM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Ml2PnyixpR5Jc-eU and th-cam.com/video/ZiHwpxfK9kw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=HMc-Bt93b0J5_Hgj and th-cam.com/video/64falXKsi9c/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ydHHPuvpLWoseZCL Essentially the TL:DR is while GW is huge, they’re struggle to keep up with production as it is. Specialist Design Studio (who makes Old World) is a small part of that, small team again working on Old World. They couldn’t make new models for everything, so we have it like this right now or not at all (and this is about as fast as they can get each army back in production).
I guess my point is that the reason it is not as successful is because they are only re-releasing (for the most part) already old miniatures and not revamping anything
It depends how you measure success. I guess I’d say what makes you think it’s not a success? As far as I know anecdotally, and from some who do know not just internet rumour, it is doing well. They’ve said in articles that it’s done very well and that the scale and scope of the project has grown. Remember it can only ‘do well’ in the context that it is presented now, and that’s with the current plan of mostly rereleasing old miniatures. I’d imagine that plan was set a couple of years ago, and while some adjustments may have been made (increased production of some products based on sales trends), it’s mostly still the same plan they launched with. Miniatures and books keep selling out, so I’d say it’s doing well enough against their expectations. It may not be until a little further down the line that we begin to see evidence of the success with investment in more new miniatures. That will still take time though, AOS still has old fantasy miniatures in the range now, it takes time and that’s the main studio. If the question is could they sell more of all the miniatures were new versions, yes sure, I’ve no doubt. But they can’t do that, so sadly it’s just a hypothetical, even the main studio can’t sculpt manufacture and release that many miniatures in one go, it’s a constant process of updating ranges and replacing old, look at how old some of the miniatures in 40K still are. I’m confident we will see some exciting new stuff once the initial plan is completed.
@MiniatureRealms Yes the new/current models are very good BUT they're not the same style of sculpt to fit in with my older 'Heroic' scale Cadian infantry. I do have a smaller collection of the current Cadians, what self-respecting Guard fan wouldn't 😉
I dont't really believe that the war wagon is actually going to be made to order... a whole remaster and then only sell it for a limited time? Doesnt make sense to me. And they have sometimes had wrong Info about MTO in the Warcom articles. EDIT: also in the stream they said that the metal standard bearer and the Engineers are MTO, no mention of that in the article.
I hold the same hope, wouldn’t be the first time they were incorrect in a Warcom article like you said. As far as I’m aware the articles are often written without studio direct input, so info can be changed or just be confused.
WHY would they put so much effort into making the War Wagon resin and then making it made-to-order only !? I am confident Cities of Sigmar will be getting a new war wagon mind you.
What I find comedic is the pricing for old world. It stands out so bad from other game systems. For example, orc/bret/tomb king infantry boces are around 2$ per mini (40 per box) how did they somehow make Old World more affordable than 8th ed Fantasy haha
It’s a little odd, but I’m glad they are cheaper (relatively) compared to some other GW ranges. Part of that is undoubtedly down to bringing back old sculpts.
That battalion box is the worst one yet. Hopefully there ends up being some reason to run infantry, but as of now the only useful model is the Steam Tank, but you only need 1, and most player already have one.
I think from a competitive meta point of view you’re probably right, but for more casual players this could be great. The Stank could be swapped out for Knights or cannon, but when you look at what the other boxes contain this more more aligned maybe, it’s different to imagine what else they may have put in there.
My only regret is we couldn’t get the 6th edition state troops - I just want all my boys to have shoes on 😢
I am fond of them as well, would love to have had both, but understand why they would choose the newer ones.
Should have brought back the 6th starter set ones too.. they're quick to paint, look great and probably cost pennies to make
I would have loved that too as those ones were perfect for conversion with the other kits of the same time such as zombies and skeletons.

I get a lot of complements on my BoD beer dice (Dwarf army). Good weight, rolls well, and good balance.
Do you think we’ll see the marienburg land ship!?
Sadly probably not, lots of talk about the mould/master being long broken. You never know though.
the warwagon, will be about 60 quid. Hellcannon is a massive lump of resin and 52 quid
I hope so, but I fear quite a lot more. Extra new sculpted Engineer, more crew than the Hellcannon, two horses. Think it will be at least £75.
Demigryphs aswell.
@@MiniatureRealms There is a post with comparison pictures on the WarhammerFantasy subreddit if you want to convince yourself.
Oh I’m not saying you’re wrong, just offering a potential explanation. It’s great if they have.
Do you have the link, I’d be interested in looking into this further? I’ll try and find out for sure.
Found it, and asked the question from someone who knows.
They have been updated 🙂
I would love for Imperial ogres to be part of the army! I could then finally start to shoe horn my Dogs of War into an actual army.
I’m hoping it works out that way
Personally I’d have loved to see either a Cult of Sigmar or Cult of Ulric army of infamy, but still excited for Nuln and Knightly Orders.
I’ve heard that, would certainly make sense based on some of the restrictions AOS is putting on TOW.
Whats comming? A video from Miniature Realms showing how he would paint Reikland state troops, Reiksguard Carroburg Greatswords ;)
😂❤️
The pattern has been that MTOs have an obvious TOW or AoS alternative. I wonder if this means we’ll see a suspiciously convenient Wagon proxy when the Cities of Sigmar release lands?
I have seen those rumours, would make a lot of sense.
Cities of Sigmar's look is going a bit more high tech / steampunk, I wouldn't expect something as primitive as the war wagon but who knows
You dragged that out longer then one of Mother's bathing & shaving nights!
Sorry to hear your mother is so hirsute
☹️ I can understand them managing expectations and people having to wait, but the extra long time they have given themselves does seem excessive.
I am reminded of the New Coke scam from the 1980's. Age of Sigmar is New Coke, annoying and alienating fans of Warhammer Fantasy. Now the old sculpts are reintroduced as the Classic Coke of GW, except they'll cost three times as much. If we're lucky.
That’s a fun analogy 😂. Doesn’t fully hold up when you look at the prices of the returning plastics.
do you think GW should invest a lot more in recreating some of the ranges and update them for the old world? do you think it would have sale potential as good or better than AoS if that was the case? I think they are dumb not doing so
I’m not sure it’s a simple as that, but yes I’d definitely like to see them update the ranges eventually, and hope that the game is successful enough to make that happen.
It’s a big topic around the way in which GW work, and how The Old World, the SDS side of the business (ex Forgeworld) operate within that.
I’ve made a few videos where I discuss this, so I’d probably direct you there rather than write an essay length answer 😅.

Essentially the TL:DR is while GW is huge, they’re struggle to keep up with production as it is. Specialist Design Studio (who makes Old World) is a small part of that, small team again working on Old World. They couldn’t make new models for everything, so we have it like this right now or not at all (and this is about as fast as they can get each army back in production).
@@MiniatureRealms hey great reply actually, ill look into that
I guess my point is that the reason it is not as successful is because they are only re-releasing (for the most part) already old miniatures and not revamping anything
@@jakobo88 Feels pretty successful to me so far.. lot of people at my gaming club dropping big $$ on new armies as well as reviving old ones.
PISTOLIERS! PISTOLIERS! PISTOLIERS! WOOHOO ❤❤ Stand back, my old Cadians need some Rough Riders 😊😊😊 ....sorry, I'll calm down now 😊
😂
I quite like the current rough riders actually, but yes loads of possibilities with those kits.
@MiniatureRealms Yes the new/current models are very good BUT they're not the same style of sculpt to fit in with my older 'Heroic' scale Cadian infantry. I do have a smaller collection of the current Cadians, what self-respecting Guard fan wouldn't 😉
I’m with you now, that makes a lot more sense then.
There’s definitely a story there, and that might be it.
The foot general at the front of the army looks stupid, everything looks tacked on and the silhouette doesn't work.
I’m interested to see what it really looks like when there’s a clear picture
