Per your advice, I just finished replacing my FZ09's throttle cables that had 62k miles of wear on them. The throttle is remarkably smooth with a crisp return snap that I didn't even realize was missing! ~120k miles of street riding experience and until I saw this, I never even thought to replace throttle cables since they always "just worked fine". I am pleased. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with the world.

Nice video on the "clean ups". I am looking forward to the up coming metal works!
Watch ur digits with that English wheel, those things BITE! Anyone who is good with a English Wheel is worth there weight in gold. Best of luck to you with that thing! ( I can make wrinkles fairly well). Just no where near where i want one, of course..
A little hint with the "sand bags", ya just might try making a "Shot Bag" with one or two. By loading the bag with bird shot in lieu of sand. The weight difference all but kills the sheet metal rebound when using forming mallets. The weight also holds things in place very well. In the shop we call them sand-bags, but they are leather bags filled with lead shot. The higher the number the finer the shot. #7, 8 & 9 are common for clay sports and are common but more expensive. Some shops sell the #6 through #0 on sale as it is only used for hunting loads. (Supply & Demand dictates co$t) Many of us re-loaders have ample amounts of odd size shot on hand. So ask around. It is unfortunate that the cost of shipping lead (Weight + Hazmat fees) is way out of the park to send you my excess. Perhaps check with a gun club?

Thanks for the great help and info Scott.. It seems like ive been reading about 'wheeling' all my life.. i was given a book as a kid back in the 70's by Eddie Paul, and was hooked, never stopped reading, i even used to buy is videos back in the 80's to learn and pick up tips and inspiration.. i always admired him and how he didn;t just build the coolest movie cars ever.. but was happy to teach and share his skills.. a sad loss to the Custom world when he died a few years ago...
Ive got some silver sand on the way for the bag at the moment, as you can imagine with the very different gun laws we have over hear it a lot harder to buy shot in quantity, but ill see how i get on with the sand to start with, and as i have a few friends who go clay shooting, ill ask them if there are any sources for shot i can access... Thanks for your kind help... take care.. Del.

So Del small piece of advice for the Wheel when it gets there. A: Do NOT try and curve metal for 8 hours straight! Your forearms will be screaming. I speak from experience on that. B: The different dies will put steeper and steeper curves into the hammered piece. Practice with each one separately so you know which one puts which curve rate on a sheet of metal. C: Work the metal, don’t let the metal work you. Good luck mate! Can’t wait to watch!

Thank you again for the advice, that and the "watch your thumbs" will be in my ears as i start rolling my first ever sheet metal...

You make the throttle part look easy, its awesome when everything goes back together with ease.Question have an old zx6 carburetor cable hooks between the 4 carburetors, little cable holder hook had an ear busted off that holds the cable& the lead o n the end was only half there, how would you tackle what I’m saying?

Love these videos, just curious, o own a mk1 bandit 600, my throttle cable must be really slack, I've adjusted it out fully at throttle end and still seems like too much free play, which direction is to tighten the cable at the carburetor ends of the cables, clockwise or anticlockwise

Cracking Video Del, finally forward progress on the Busa lol, ask you a quick question if you don`t mind, 02 Triumph Bonneville America,, what is the best Die & Tap set to get for these mate, the metric one i have doesn`t come close to the correct thread gauge, once i get my tins back from hydrodipping / painting i`ll need to clear the excess paint out the threads, don`t wanna f`k it up on the rebuild, any advice mate please,, ain`t got a clue what thread gauge they would be. Cheers Buddy.

    It's getting there Del...
Not my type of bike but still very interesting and educational to watch, just like all the videos you do. I've learnt heaps off your chanel.
Theres a guy called Ron Covell that teaches metal fabrication from frame building to pannel and tank making. Well worth a watch, he has a TH-cam chanel and a few tutorial videos specialising in English Wheels.
I've got 3 of his vids so if you want to view them let me know and I'll get them to you one way or another.
Keep up the good work dude...
    Oh, and hi to Penny

Thanks Ed, that's a kind offer... I really appreciate you taking the time to help, I have everything to learn on this and lots of theory to turn in to practice, so like with the lathe work and machining that I'm still very much learning, it will be a long, slow journey with a few mistakes along the way, am sure... but am gonna enjoy every step and stumble... if you need to get hold of me about the videos, just drop us a line to our email, which is: delboysgarage@yahoo.com keeps it private mate, thanks again, all the very best, D&Px

If you are going to throw out the old throttle cables i was wondering if you could cut them open. It would be interesting to see what is inside.

Great video, cheers. I recently changed my cables on a k4 gsxr and I've a fl light showing with the idle going up to 1500 rpm. Turn the bike off and on to clear it but happens again randomly. Could my cables be set too tight? I've no freeplay

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Don't know without seeing it mate, but all cables should have a fraction of freeplay at least to allow the throttle stop to rest, so at least do that first and then see if it clears it.

question : after I adjust my throttle cable on my 2005 hayabusa it started working fine, the accelarator wont get stuck, but still has that hard starting, I move the choke lever up and dont start, move it down and after 5 attemps it starts in very low RPM s, any idea or advise, how do I know if my choke is working properly ? thanks, you are a good teacher.
