    That loom looked a pain to get out - alarming (ahem) to see at first, but when you remember you'd ridden it back from the shop with nothing plugged in that socket, it was never going to cause you trouble 👍 I've just changed bikes and am currently looking forward to undoing and redoing the wiring mods from the previous owners! Your systematic approach to the 'busa has been really helpful to me going through this new (10 year old) Deauville I've just got to check everything over. Blessings to Jason for a swift recovery

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Adam, you're dead right, it was a completely unused piece of redundant harness... out of the fourteen wires, only four of them are used, couple of switched lives and a constant live, the connections are really sound and solidly soldered, so they are hand pig tails if I ever need them in the future.. good luck with the Deauville, sounds like a fun project mate, all the best, Del

    Del perhaps in one of videos you could explain how you get on notifying the DVLA whenever you modify a road bike. Also, how do you get on with insurers - they don't like modifications!

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Insurance don't mind modifications at all, what they mind is not being told, so we usually make a list and make sure they're happy with everything, for the most part visual modifcations are no problem, it's performance enhancement they take issue with, and even then, if you find the right company, it's no problem...

    My subframe is still the aluminium one, no breakages but then am 99% solo rider with no heavy packs on the end. So some survived. My Copper/Silver busa is No.33 off the production line, so perhaps early tooling is an advantage. PS. She had her 20th birthday recently from date of manufacture of Feb.'99. She is still a 'Beast' but getting harder to ride aged 64. My bones and joints take a beating after riding, did so on the w/end took me 2 days to recover lol. Thought it was a power commander loom of sorts. My alarm is just a plug & play off the ECU. Avagoodone. Wishing Jason a speedy recovery.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Volvi, I thought it was PC3 too, but as soon as I found the little red LED light grafted in to the live and that every wire was black, it was obviously an alarm, actually a really good graft in job, all well soldered and heat shrunk, so rather than cut in to it and have to re-graft the loom, I just pig tailed them and mae them safe... still shed 99% of it, happy it's gone! ........ I know what you mean about rides... got 10yrs to catch you up still, but after two solid days riding over this weekend, 250 miles, starting to feel it now, but hey, it's a happy ache lol

    It's nice to see you back on the main project, though I enjoyed the work in brass and on the wheel. Terminating the alarm loom wires and capping them off feels like something I would do and then agonize over. Are you SURE you don't want to remove them entirely?
    Nevertheless, great video - something so polished is a treat on TH-cam and the content can't be beat. Go team DBG!
    Jason, best wishes to you for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery. You will be in my thoughts.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the wiring John, the soldered connections are too close to the plugs and it would be a real hack to try and break them open, then re-solder them with hardly any wire to solder to... if the person who grafted them in had come 6" further down the harness, it'd be fine, but where they are, there's no room to re-solder them securely... just thoughtless on the part of the first installer, but give them their due, all the soldering is rock solid, heat shrunk and secure, so as there's a couple of switches lives there, and one constant live, I've left them as handy pig tails in case I ever need them and tucked them away safe. Thanks for your kind words mate, it takes a long time to make good content, so we really appreciate it!

    • @JDnBeastlet
      @JDnBeastlet 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the detailed explanation, Del. Knowing that, terminating the alarm loom wires and capping them off is something I would do and then >NOT< agonize over. :)
      Again, nice work. You are a continued source of inspiration and motivation to go ever further with my own bike. Replacing the clutch slave cylinder seal and the ignition switch, bleeding the brakes and clutch, chasing down electrical issues... all of these things I've done on my own have saved me a lot of money, and among others I have you to thank for that. Keep it up!

      Hi mate, the four wires were soldered in in to cuts and would have meant stripping out and replacing lengths of wiring, and it was only 2" from the plug, much safer to not get yourself in a mess, to just back them over, make them safe and bind them back in to the loom invisbly... !

    Hi Del - on a massive catch-up on your vids as I’ve been away on business n vacation for a couple of months now. Quick question .... how do you manage to balance things? In this vid you said you’ve got to get off to work in 45 mins! With your “normal” job, the work on the bikes, planning and designing that work, setting up the vids and editing etc AND I assume you have a social life that includes getting out on a bike - it’s a miracle you have time to eat or sleep! Anyway as a grateful recipient of all your efforts, (and Pen’s too!), a big thanks from me. Yours aye, Alan

    I always enjoy the videos. at the 12:30 minute mark you move from the alarm wiring to the tail section. I hope you will go back and properly fix that wiring. trusting an installers soldering job is never my way of finishing a job. Of course, it is your bike to do what you will. it would irritate me if it was my bike. :-)

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that may be a purist view, and I see your logic, however in real life it's not that simple... sadly all the grafting work that's been done is dead close to plug sockets, the main with the diode is only 3/4" from a plug, so chopping in to that will leave two butt end wires to join with no slack to do so, you'll cause more of a 'hack' job trying to remove the accessory wiring than if you just pig tail it 4" long and seal it off for safety, then tape it in out of sight... it's the best solution in this case... If it hadn't been so close to plugs, then it would have been different... and as an added extra, I get a couple of nicely grafted in switched lives and a constant live if I ever need them for accessories in the future, just undo the pig tails and connect them up!

      Gonna do the clutch towards the end of the project, probably weld up the slipper mechanism, and I'll do a full top to bottom service, there are no fluids in the bike whatsoever at the moment... there's no point in doing all that and it sits on the bench for a year whilst I build the bodywork!
