Top-notch video Sir! I have had many crf250x-r in the past, and the last time I changed the oil was about 4 years ago so I needed to refresh my mind on how to, and this video is excellent. Keep up the great work. God bless.
The engine oil level has a dipstick attached to the cap. With the bike level, remove the oil fill cap, wipe the dipstick clean, reinsert (without screwing it in), remove and verify the oil level is between the two marks.
Commenters have asked why I used the same oil in the engine and transmission. I followed Honda's recommendation in the service manual for JASO MA 10w40. This is recommended for both the engine and transmission in the Honda service manual. The purpose of this video is to demonstrate the process. If you prefer a different oil from what's recommended that's your decision. Great video. I'm new to the sport and I just bought a 2005 crf250x a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, I have a hairline crack in the crankcase cover, so I'm going to need to repair and change oil. Will also get a skid plate to hopefully prevent in the future. How often do you change the oil and transmission oil?
For the trans refill I'll lay the bike in the left side, supported by my bike stand so the fill is facing straight up. Then fill out of a 500ml graduated cylinder. Still have to go slow, though.
Hey man, just picked up a 2012 crf250x, some people say that you need to use different oil in the 2 different places, I just want to make sure it’s alright to use it in both, does it run and ride as usual? No extra wear?
There are endless opinions online about what oil to run for this or that. I typically just stick with what's recommended by the manufacturer. For this bike the manual says 10w 40, API classification SG or higher, JASO MA. Honda GN4 is recommended for the engine and transmission in the manual but the manual also states some other options for the trans. I highly recommend following the manual over online opinions.
They are completely seperate, so you can change just the engine or transmission oil. But DONT mix up your Fill & Drain Plugs for each if doing them separately.
best video ive come by thank you! So just to make sure its okay to use the engine oil for transmission oil in a 09 crf250r? if i get the same one in the video
You really do a good job of explaining the process in your videos. Stay safe
Thanks David!
This video could be the standard for mechanical how-to videos. Very well done, thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Literally the only channel that has good crf250x stuff, although Honda did make the 250x model in 04, i have the 04 250x
Thanks man, much appreciated! Noted about the 2004 250x. I seriously didn’t know that.
Awesome video, we are just getting into dirt bikes as a family so this video saved me on changing my oil in my bike
I’m glad it was helpful!

I’m glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching!
That was the most informative video I've ever watched, Thank you a lot bud!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching.
A hack for quick filling of the transmission is lay the bike on its left side and remove the clutch cover. Dump in. Replace clutch cover! 👍
Best video I've found on this topic. Appreciate you, sir
So you use the same oil for the engine and the transmission?
I see you pointed out the transmission oil level check Bolt, does the actual oil side have a oil level check bolt as well? Thank you

When reading the dipstick do I need to thread it in all the way then twist out and look?
When checking the level do not thread it in.
where can i find the use and maintenance manual of my crf x from 2004?
Try this: www.manualslib.com/products/Honda-Crf250x-3116983.html

@@DirtBikingwithDonnie thanks and did you have to drill out the holes yourself?
@@nashc3205 I don’t remember having to drill anything but I sold the bike a couple of years ago so I can’t say for sure.
do9es the bottom drain plug have a crush washer? And why didn't you torque the plug back to a certain ft/lb? Thx
Nice video and description!
Thanks!

Did you use the same oil for both sides??
@@bigironjakesd619 Yes, the manual recommends the same for both.
Should I use 10w30 instead? I got an 2007 crf250x and it calls for 10w30 but I've been using 10w40 for a while now and haven't had issues.
Wait did you use 10w-40 for your transmission oil two
Honda recommends you use the same oil for both.
Great video, told me everything I needed to know
Thanks for watching!
Great video. I'm going to change mine this weekend.
i'm brazilian and i have a 2004 crf250r thanks for the tips
Thanks for watching!
Off this subject…. I’m looking for a skid plate, what is the brand of plate you have on your bike? Thank you!
Acerbis
Hi, do you have any idea why engine oil mixture to transmission gear oil? I did replace oil seals on crank and balance shaft
So you can use motor oil As transmission oil as well?
This helped so much, great explanations!!

The manual recommends changing both every 15 hours of operation. I typically change the engine oil more often at about 7.5 hrs.
@@DirtBikingwithDonnie I accidentally bought the GN4 10w-30. I'm ride near San Diego, CA. Will this oil also work for transmission?
What size is the drain plug for the transmission
thank you, super clear. sunscribed.
Thanks for the sub!

Is transmission oil is like the regular oil for honda
Great video man.
Does anybody know the specification on the longer bolt/screw by the oil filter?
Do you use semi synthetic fully synthetic

Great video 💪
You are the best !! Thank you
Thanks for watching!
So it’s a different process for my 04
If it’s a CRF250X it will be the same. Not sure about the R, but it should be very similar.
Great video🙏🙏
Glad you liked it
Electric start? Where do I get that?!
You didnt link the stand in the discription
They stopped making it. You may be able to find it on eBay.
I like the shirt buddy. Praise Yah
Thanks for watching!
I thought the transmission uses 80 85 transmission oil not regular jaso motor oil
Hi Donnie,
Do you uses the honda oil for the tranny too? Great video.
Dis u have to change the engine oil and the transmission at the same time? Or can u do just the engine only?
They are completely seperate, so you can change just the engine or transmission oil.
But DONT mix up your Fill & Drain Plugs for each if doing them separately.
Might as well just get two quarts of oil and do both. They both take the Honda GN4 10W-40 non-synthetic oil. Good stuff.
Nice video. I am looking to buy a 2006 crf250 is a good bike?
I have a 2015 250 they haven’t changed through the years I love it so far it’s fast enough for me and really good on the trails I highly recommend it
Champion!
Where did you get your skid plate?
I ordered it directly from Acerbisusa.com
I have a question on why the bike takes the same oil for the engine and transmission and wondering if it’s the same on a 2006 CRF 250x
I have the 06 250x also and I use the same oil on both sides its perfectly fine

Awesome video now redo it and tell us the sizes of the bolts....haha. JK THANKS!
Lol, it’s a delicate balance with too much info vs. not enough. Thanks for watching.
how much ml do you fill the engine oil & transmission?
As he stated, start with 67 CC (CC and ML same volume, differert name), 67 ML if you prefer and add slowly until perfect.
I may have misheard him but you should start with 670ml (or cc) not 67. 1000 cc = i liter, didnt mean to cause confusion, 67 ml is a few cap fulls...
Do you use the same oil for the engine and transmision??
