    I have bought a couple of those things before for my kids and the controller for some reason has always been the culprit .. for some reason they just go bad!

    Thanks for the video! Really helpful. I still can’t figure out why my sons bike won’t work though. I’m getting the clicking noise at the controller. Everything else checks out. Batteries are old but have 13.5 V at rest. I’m going to change them anyway

    • @jedjenediy
      @jedjenediy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check the break system. Usually when someone cant figure out the clicking problem it boils down to the break being engaged or disengaged. Not always, but most always when everything is checked and it still does not work it turns out to be the break system. 13.5 should be plenty to run the bike unless it drops below 12 when you throttle it.

    I found one of these things on the side of the rode took it home whole frame guard is gone so is the seat when we charge it the light turns on but it doesn’t move we are trying to fix it but I think the battery is flat

    • @jedjenediy
      @jedjenediy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most likely true. Batteries are always the first thing to check. If you have a volt meter check the voltage on the battery. Need 11 volts are the bare minimum for it to run. If the battery is below that, it is dead. You can revive a dead battery, but they are usually weak after they have been to low for to long. Better off just ordering a new battery and seeing if that gets its running. It does not take many amps nor volts to light the light on the switch so you can not determine id it is flat or not by the light.

Off/On switch lights up while charging, but light fades off once disconnected. Batteries show they are charged when checked. Hopefully going through check list from video will help pinpoint cause. Just found it odd, red light fades off once disconnected.

    I don’t hear a click at all when I turn the throttle, I haven’t took it apart to check it but do you think it could be the throttle since their is no click?

    • @jedjenediy
      @jedjenediy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      if there is no click at all, it is most likely the control box itself...the click is a relay inside that silver box that has all those wires coming out. The clicking noise is the relay switching so if no click, then the most likely issue is a bad relay in that box, but better off to just get a whole new control box rather then a relay. That may not be the problem, but is the most likely outcome based on no clicking noise.

  • @PaulSmith-pe1kh

    My switch cuts on, lights up and immediately dims. I had power and a good ride for about 45 min when we bought it used. After that it wouldn’t turn on. If we smack the side casing where the switch is the light cuts on then fades. If we flick it of and on it cuts on then fades. I swapped the batteries and controller/throttle thinking maybe a battery or a short was causing it but wanted to swap the switch but can’t find the part. You think it’s the switch? I got a much brighter light on the switch with the new parts but still immediately dims. Can’t think of anything but the switch. What part/how do I find the right switch?

    • @jedjenediy
      @jedjenediy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What model is it? Yes most likely your switch is bad. It's a bit odd that it dims...sounds like a short somewhere either in the switch or elsewhere but most likely in the switch. It should not dim out.

    So there’s no way to actually check the controller? Or did I miss that part of the video?

    • @jedjenediy
      @jedjenediy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you hear the controller "clicking" but the bike does not run, then the controller is most likely working. The clicking sound means the controller's relays are trying to engage which means it is working correctly but something else is stopping the bike from running. If there is no clicking sound at all, it is bad, but controllers very rarely go bad unless the bike is extremely old or very very over used. They eventually fail, but it is very rare. Usually you will replace many other parts over and over again before the controller fails. Hope that helps you

    Hello I watched your vid but still have questions. I replaced throttle, controller and batteries and still get the clicking noise , tho the bike WILL run once motor “catches”. • @jedjenediy
      @jedjenediy  หลายเดือนก่อน

      make sure the brake is not engaged....push it all the way out like not in use. The break may not be all the way back. Let me know. Sounds like the motor is slipping, but it can't slip so has to be the break or the module not sending the correct signal (power) to the motor.

      Check the battery first and make sure you have at least 12 volts.
      Also play with the break handle...hold it like you are putting on the breaks and see if it goes, then try to push the break handle the other way so it is not engage...push hard and try the throttle. I am very sorry for an extremely late reply, had some serious things arise in my life. It is still most likely your battery. A battery can show a full voltage but have no amperage. Amperage is what moves the bike, voltage is the flow. You most likely have no amperage at all even though it shows full voltage and replacing the battery would solve it. In other words, the battery is not taking an actually charge and the charger can not detect whether it is or is not, it can only read that the voltage is good and so it gives a green light.

      It can be the module itself. Do a ohms beep test on the throttle connection....should have no beep, then when you turn the throttle it should beep if it is working properly

    What about the motor itself?

    • @jedjenediy
      @jedjenediy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They rarely ever go out. You can hook the motor directly to the battery (positive to negative or positive to positive ... does not matter...one way turns it forward, the other way turns it backwards) and see if it runs. If it does, it is good to go. They do go bad, but it is very very very rare...most everything else on the bike will fail before the motor does in most cases.

      In my experience with these kind of batteries I've learned they just aren't built for long lasting rides... I came across 1 of these today, had a spare charger cord for it and in my case everything works with this one but I have a 48v set up with the same issues this video is presenting... btw dope video right here! This guy is awesome teaching how to work on these. Dope video my guy!!! Had to pause it to answer you. I might not be right but in my experience lithium! For my set up I switched to lithium batteries... way better, 2 48v I connect separately once one dies out. A 24v with about 30ah go for about $150 I just saw on ebay make sure they bring a charger and they ship from USA. Should last for way longer. Hope my experience can be a possible help. Electric cruising is the best... my kids and I can't wait till all the batteries are charged and ready. Sorry for the infinite reply 😆 I never do these either btw. Really like Electric stuff, better for our future and pockets✌️✌️✌️

      @@corinakaukau6510 Battery may still be bad. Charge it up (if already charged just continue) then use the throttle, then check the voltage.
      If the voltage is exactly the same after you use it, it is either the module itself that is bad, or else the throttle.
      If it is the throttle, the easiest way to check it is to run a wire directly from the battery to the motor (connector) and see if the motor runs. If it i does run, then throttle itself is bad.
      If the motor barely runs, then you have a bd battery that holds a charge, but is not hooding a real charge that will run the bike.

      @@AlphaChimpEnergy That happens. Those modules are cheap modules and do break down often. If you have a click sound when you hit the throttle then the relays in the module are working correctly, but that does not mean the rest of the parts in the module are functioning properly. If you end up with a short it can easily fry the module because they are cheaply made....even a single spark can fry a part inside there...they honestly should have used better modules on these vehicles.

    • @jedjenediy

      Sounds like a weak motor, or a motor going out. If you have a spare motor connected it to the wire harness and see if it spins faster or harder then the one currently on the Bike. Also check for any shorts in the wires...like where a wire got the insulation rubbed off. Also, check your throttle itself...it could be that the throttle is not functioning properly so as you turn the throttle it is not applying full power to the motor, but only partial power.

      Batteries are most likely dead. Charge each battery till full then let it sit for an hour. If you have a multimeter the battery should settle at at least 12.7 volts. If not then your batteries are bad. They will still charge if bad. If they are bad they will lose voltage quickly and discharge fasterm
