  • Sound comparison test between Bose and Fender PA system.
    Test 1: Play backing track thru both systems
    Test 2: Acoustic guitar & vocal on both systems
    To me Fender's sound is like more real, in a way is more like a PA system; BOSE's sound is more like a high-end home speaker. BOSE of course is more powerful in term of the loudness but Fender is almost half of the price. Anyway all I did is provide you the "sound" coming out of those two PAs, you can draw your own conclusion!!

    I think the bose is good for Dj's, and party music with deep bass. And the fender is good for bands and overall use for speakers. It sounds more even, plus he's using the conference with 150W. If he used either the 300W or the 800W fender passport, it would've made a lot of difference. In my opinion.

    I dj'ed a wedding last year that also had a couple of guitar players with some backing tracks there to jam. They had a Fender Passport system (not sure which model) and I brought my Bose L1 Model II w/ the B2 module. It was an outdoor gig and being confident in my setup I allowed them to setup their system in the ideal location for sound, while my Bose L1 sat quite a ways behind all their stuff. They had trouble with getting the sound out to the audience without it getting too harsh and had to point the speakers at different angles and mess with the eq and all this other stuff. Prolly took about an hour to get their setup going. Needless to say even though it was behind everything and not in an ideal situation for sound the Bose blew everyone away. It filled the entire area outside with clear lively sound but was pleasant enough to not interfere with conversations. It was nice to have a system that was easy to setup and because I had confidence in my sound I was able to relax and enjoy the wedding

    • @lotoqui
      @lotoqui  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      L1 Model II w/ B2 module is much more powerful than the L1 Compact system which might explain why you have no trouble getting the sound out. Not sure which Fender Passport system the other guys are using, the one in this video is 150 and I believe if you use it in a open area like out door wedding, yes you will have trouble getting the sound out but if you use 500, you maybe ok.

    Bose sounds like mostly lows and highs, with heavily rolled off mids, which is to be expected from a bass module paired with a bunch of tiny woofers. This is the common Bose sound signature for their speakers; tuned to excite the ears at the cost of natural/flat sound.Fender sounds more even.

  • @chinggop1

    Ok, on fender you can tell from its sound that its coming from two channel because of the wider soundstage. In bose however its a bit narrower but it will surprise you to know that an equally big sound is coming out of that single unit, both units sounds very good btw

    The fender sounds better in my opinion the bose just sounds condensed or lacking in low mid. Also a fun fact for Bose fans the fender passport pd150 and pd250 speakers were designed by BOSE for fender. so in reality your listening to 2 bose systems.

    If anyone else has actually used both of these systems in a live setting, I'm sure they would prefer the Bose. I've run an open mic with a Fender Passport 150 and it CAN NOT compete with the Bose L1 Compact. The sound projects 180 degrees and throws a balanced sound all the way across a venue. I decided to buy a Bose system and I have played over 1,000 live performances with it, as it is my main source of income $$$ :) . If you're serious about live performance, it would be best to save up for the Bose. If you're just getting started, the Passport will satisfy your needs until you can save up for something of higher quality. You really get what you pay for in this situation, but you have to hear it for yourself instead of through the microphone on this video. These PA systems are for LIVE sound, not to be used for recordings, necessarily.

      @@micktmusic i have never used a separate mixer for my solo work, as the Bose is "pre-mixed" for acoustic and vocals. I think I used a cheap Behringer mixer for a few open mic nights for multiple people. Bose has their own, but at $500, oouf!

    An fair, efficient & intelligent review, great job Iotoqui! The Bose works well if home Stereo system play back was what you had in mind, but for the piratical musician's use, I think the Fender (Yamaha make an excellent system as well) is a singer & guitar player's best choice.
    Not sure about the Fender (though they probably have it too) but for sure, Yamaha's 600i system has a 'sub woofer' jack that allows you to add a floor monitor to the mix that allows you to dedicate the low end to that sub woofer so only the high & mids go to the Left & Right speakers giving you that full sound if this full bassy sound is so desired.

  • @REYRICO69
    @REYRICO69 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    The big difference is that The Bose is a line array system which disperses the sound more evenly which means the sound carries a lot further than traditional systems like the Passport. I have 2 L1 Compacts and I do agree that they are a bit overpriced, but they sound great, they're easy to set up and extremely portable. Plus, you don't need additional monitors with The Bose system. If you're performing live music you'll need at least one monitor with the passport. If money is an issue I'd go with The Fender Passport, but The Bose is a much better system in my opinion.

      +Uri Tumo No the Bose L1 would not be good for movies. The L1 line array speaker is designed for covering an area 180 degrees with sound. With a home theater system you want separation between 5.1 channels for the surround sound effect. The L1 was designed for Live performances.

    • @jefffeldstein
      @jefffeldstein 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bryankeller3492 It could be solved by changing the eq on the Bose, i.e., turn the bass down a little. He didn't have them balanced to get more or less the same sound. When doing sound test comparisons of this sort it is best to try to get each system to replicate the same balance. Otherwise it's like farting in the wind. I'm a long time fan of Fender, and also a long time fan of Bose's technology. And I tried them both out at the store. After listening back and forth for a good long time, I bought the Bose.

    I tried Bose and have also heard other people use them live they sound shrill and boomy but not detailed at the same time especially if you stand near them, with little mid frequencies and although they fill a space they don't project that well you can't hear them that well at the back of a large room , I also wonder if those small speakers are more likely to blow but thats my opinion. It could be improved with a seperate larger mid frequency speaker as it really lacks in the mid frequency area. And why are Bose so secretive about the RMS and SPL ratings.

    • @jefffeldstein
      @jefffeldstein 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the fall off in db's over distance is far more severe from traditional PA's like the Fender, i.e., if you set both systems to the same volume on stage the traditional PA will sound far weaker at the back of the room. That's a tested fact.

    • @antoinefleuriot2509
      @antoinefleuriot2509 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jefffeldstein Over the years I have used loads of PA systems including Bose L1 and have heard several times from an audience point of view the Bose system and in my experience Bose does not push the sound out & has no mids despite the sales talk hype, it doesn't cut it (emperors clothing springs to mind) and that's a fact. Get a decent 12" active speaker and they will totally blow the Bose system out the water add a sub & the Bose will sound like a toy in comparison. That also explains why very few professional people use them

    There are a few key points that this video does not deal with first, the Bose is easier to set up and covers more area. The Fender has dead areas you truly need to be in the room or he would need to shoot the video from various angles. Trust me people in the back of the room will receive the same sound and clarity with the Bose the passport wont provide that coverage. Second, the Bose truly avoids feedback which is big especially if you play out and your a solo act its difficult to make adjustments on the fly when your speakers are 6 ft away from you. Lastly, the Bose can actually sit behind you and thus act as a monitor as well which for a singer is ideal. If you put the passport speakers behind you welcome to feedback. I appreciate the video but its just not setting the scene correctly.

    Bose sounds fuller...coming from around you..not focused right at you like the Fender, But the Fender is 50-60% less....So if budget is a big Deal the Fender will be great...But bulky and taks up a lot of room with the tri-pods ..Bose wins out if money isn't a problem or you have space limitations..

    I knew the great BOSE era, the 802, the made in the USA, really fabulous and legendary. Here it breathes, it stinks of made in china. Research done, BOSE does not have a factory in China, it is all under contract and much too expensive, really too expensive compared to the cost of labor in China, excessive exploitation. In addition sound side ... it is not JBL (the brand of musicians for more than 50 years) brand at the origin of this bass cabinet + column configuration, a concept copied by everyone lacking creativity. The JBL EON ONE / ONE PRO is the benchmark. All the components of very high quality are manufactured by JBL including exceptional speakers which allow a perfect power handling during very long hours. Parameters very often forgotten in the test (at JBL 100h full volume "torture test" formidable dangerous... for the transducers)
