This video will teach you everything you need to know about replacing the battery in your iPhone 6 Plus. It is a gigantic phone with a massive battery, but over time the battery life can diminish, and stops lasting as long as it used to.
Luckily batteries are really inexpensive. And can be replaced without too much hassle. Just be super careful with the screen as you remove it and install it. Do not twist the ribbon cables in ANY way, they are way more fragile than you think they are.

The tabs on the battery are there for a reason, you should never pry the battery out of an iPhone 6 Plus, as the battery will be damaged or bent. Just lift up the two black tabs on the battery, and pull them slowly outwards and they will stretch as they release from under the bottom of the battery, allowing the battery to be just lifted out with no effort.
These tabs need to be renewed when replacing the battery. Do not use double sided tape, as when it comes to the next battery change, prying out the battery will be the only option, and may cause damage to the phone or components.
Do the job properly, and make sure all the screws are located in the same hole they were removed from. Some are slightly longer than others, and if put into the wrong location, may cause damage to the logic board.

you can pull out the battery by using the adhesive pull tabs at the bottom of the battery instead of heating up the phone and prying the battery out.

Jerry, your TH-cam presentation gets referenced by sellers of iPhone batteries. I appreciate the iPhone 6 Plus kit I bought at Amazon. Took me 4 hours to swap out the defective (swollen) lithium battery.
The included tools were a godsend. Sadly there were NO INSTRUCTIONS. I could not figure out where to put the blue phone-sized plastic sheet, so I left it out. Is it some kind of protective insert? Any ideas?
Reassembly was a challenge. Teeny screws were hard to handle and find when they disappeared.
I had to play and pause your video to recall the sequence. Your video gave me the courage to finally tackle a DIY challenge, a year after Apple offered to change my expanding battery for over $100.

Important to make sure the battery connector aligns with the socket before applying adhesive. Some batteries require that the ribbon connector has to be bent to draw the plug a little bit closer to the battery; this is true of the "Amazon's choice" Loctus battery. Suggest a "dry" run where the new battery is simply placed in the empty case and connected, ensuring fit and position. Thn disconnect and remove new battery; apply adhesive to back side of battery, then plug the connector into the socket once again before finally dropping battery with adhesive into the case.. guaranteed fit and placement.

I also used the pull tabs which made it easier to remove the old OEM battery. New kit also came with this glue tape. I was able to replace my mom's battery without any issues! I have seen several videos on how to remove the batteries on iPhones. I am still amazed that NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON - including the person in this video - understood how to remove the battery from the case. I know the following works because I removed the battery from an iPhone 6 using this method.
Those two little tabs - clearly show in the video - are EXACTLY the same as the tabs on Command Strips. . . . . you grab the tab and SLOWLY pull on it. You might have to use tweezers to get the first grip. Lift it up and grab with your fingers. Pull and pull and pull SLOWLY . . . When one strip is done . . . then do the other one. . . . Just like a Command Strip . . . viola! The battery comes out cleanly and simply. NO battery damage from prying . . . NO case damage from prying . . .

Great Video! Take him serious when he mentioned to be careful not to cut the battery. I accidentally bent the battery as I was trying to get my plastic tool under it. Battery cover cracked, small electrical arcs from the battery to the metal body, followed by a tiny fire and smoke. Other than my accident it worked well. Also be sure you line up the battery correct when you put the new one in. I set the battery in a bit low so the ribbon connector didn't fully reach, had to move it up which was hard to do with the new glue. Learn from my mistakes.

JerryRigEverything if you're familiar with command strips, the adhesive for the battery functions exactly like that. No heat required. You can just pull the adhesive out from under the battery and it requires almost no force and no stress on the battery.

There are two screws that are different lengths from the rest and from each other. It would help to note which goes where. The long one is unambiguous, the medium one is the challenge. It goes on the upper left of the retainer plate shown in the video.

Perfect, many thanks. As advertised, I would suggest to anyone doing this to make sure they note which screws come from where (one or two are longer than the others) and you do it on a tray or white cloth...anything to arrest those bloody screws in the event of a "ping...oh crap" moment. Much appreciated, thanks again😁

The phone has a sticky gasket around the perimeter that must be overcome.

The old gasket must be removed entirely.
Some screws are different sizes and go into specific places.

I also did it without taking the screen off. If you do not heat the back you could damage the rather thin metal housing. I have the luxury of being someone who 3D Prints so I have a heat gun for them my 3D Printer nozzle or heatbreak needs attention. Not everyone have a heat gun but a hair dryer will also work, just might take longer to heat it. BUT you should heat the back to make it a whole lot easier to remove. But do not overheat the back.

I was considering trying to change the battery in my wife's 6 Plus phone because it's four years old and no longer holding a charge as long as it used to. After four years of usage the battery now has an 80% charge retention capacity which means that it's time to replace it with a new one. Although the video is informative, after watching it and reading some of the posts from people who experienced problems trying to do it on their own, I began to feel as though trying to do this without ruining the phone in some way is like walking through a minefield: one wrong step and boom! Years ago it was pretty easy for owners to change cell phone batteries, but the smartphone changed that. I guess the manufacturers got tired of customers hanging on to their phones too long without upgrading, so they made it more difficult to change the batteries. They'd rather see you spend the money to upgrade to a more expensive model.

Thanks "JerryRig" (catchy!!) for keeping your instructional video short and to the point. Easy to follow, includes the little tips for the idiosyncrasies of the iPhone, and saving my husband's sanity when he found out we could replace the battery and he wouldn't lose his precious iPhone 6 plus (I haven't told him yet that eventually Apple will some day stop supporting the 6, but at least this new battery will save it for the time being!)

Thanks for this! I purchased a battery and toolkit to fix my 6S Plus from iFixit which was great, but their video only shows up to the point when the battery is connected again. Then "follow the steps in reverse"! That wasn't cutting it for me so I appreciate you did the forward process all the way through. Good job!

Oh and a PS - Make SURE that your batter is run down to 20% or lower power before starting!!
I also appreciated that you showed that it was OK to turn on the phone and check the screen BEFORE putting it all back together, and the importance of turning it off again before finishing up the replacement. Nice tips & tricks. Wish I had seen the one about slightly heating up the back of the phone to loosen the adhesive. One of my strips broke off (of course the deepest one) and I had to use a plastic credit card to work the battery up from the last piece of sticky tape.

Does the new battery usually come charged because after replacing the battery the screen does not come back on and I plug it in to charge and all it does is get warm.

Took my working iPhone 6s+ into the Lehi Utah, Store#: 848 for a simple battery replacement. Phone was completely functional prior to taking it in, the battery just wasn't lasting as long as it used to.
I pick up the phone and he indicated that the repair did not go well. It didn't appear to hold a charge. He mentioned that I could take it home and see if it would charge up over the weekend.
I took the phone home and it would not take a charge, it would not connect to iTunes, basically it seemed like the port no longer worked.
I took the phone back into them on Monday to give them the update and see what they were going to do. We sat down and had a very heated conversation as he said that he couldn't take my word that it was working before the repair, that I was likely trying to scam him. Despite the fact that they did an intake test that showed everything working on the phone including that it took a 1% charge before they took it off the charger to replace the battery. "I'm not calling you a liar, but I can't trust anything any customer tells me", that was his mantra. I'm not calling you a liar, but you're a liar.
He was 100% certain that he couldn't possibly have broken my phone, despite the fact that I know it worked before I brought it in, and despite the fact that it passed their intake exam.
He refused to put the old battery back in to test and see if that worked. He refused to do any additional work on it saying that he already tried 3 different batteries and he also tried replacing the port. His only response was to send me off to someone else to repair the phone at whatever cost they incurred. Or he could give me a refund for the repair and ignore the fact that he broke my perfectly working phone that simply needed a battery replacement.
DO NOT use Batteries Plus for anything. They are clearly not competent to do the work, and they will refuse to accept any responsibility for the damage they cause in the process.
