For the people that already own PRC rifles. Any chance we'll be seeing the Peak Alloy technology used in those intelligently designed PRC cartridges in the future?
Federal claimed there is no significant increase in bolt pressure, and I haven't heard that it needs a stronger action or barrel. So if all it takes is a stronger case, why not offer this case in already popular rounds. 6.5CM now could be shooting 6.5PRC velocity. If this can be done than you have a game changer to the industry.
The simple answer is 6.5 isn't as good as 6.8 or 7. This isn't just for hunting. It's for long range application. And heavier bullets resist drift better. You can only get so heavy with 6.5 before the bullet gets too long. And you can already get 6.5 PRC speeds out of the CM. Just load your own. I know plenty of guys getting 3k with a 140 grain in the CM

Several TH-camrs have talked about less than stellar accuracy with the 7mm BC. For most guys that aren't trying to be snipers the 7mm-08 will handle most everything needed in the continental 48 states.

7-08 is the ballistic twin to the 7x57 that W. D. M. Bell used to shoot over 800 elephant. Recoil is nothing. Yeah that should kill anything down here.
@ sure because riding up to elephants and shooting them in the ear with multiple rounds from 40 yards is comparable to trying to drop large white tail and axis bucks in their tracks. Without making some bullshit spine shot. Your point on the 7x57 is void. It has a slightly larger powder capacity and operates at higher chamber pressures the numbers look comparable until you watch what it does with distance. Neither of which are “good enough” for shots past 300 yards that you want to drop somthing
@@brianklamer3328 I wasn’t trying to be a sniper but your thesis that a Barnes ttsx at 2940fps out of a 7-08 won’t kill a deer past 300 is interesting. I’ll ask the next deer I kill if he’s sure he’s dead.

Wow !! 😮 It's one thing to support the company that supports you. But to flat out not tell the truth or give all of the information about it is down right Distrustful !! 1) Has a difficult time being consistent with 1 MOA at 100 yards because of the Sd's and Spreads not being very good. 2) RCBS has stopped development for dies to reload the alloy. Because it's very difficult and time consuming. Also not cost effective. 3) When you do reload it you can only reload it up to 6 times after that the alloy is no longer reloadable.
@@ev3dale298 Actually got the information from people who are involved with the development of the cartridge and are the first ones Actually showing everything they are dealing with when shooting the different ammo choices !! Everyone else is only showing the velocities from a 20 inch barrel. As far as the reloading, RCBS is the only company trying to make dies and they are having serious difficulty doing that. Several people have said they have stopped doing the development because of that. The industry already knows what the difficulty is of reloading steel cases and that's why nobody has done it for a very long time. The Sig ammo has a steel head and brass body for the 277 fury. That being said there's talk about doing away with that and going with 6.5 Creedmoor because it's far more accurate and reliable with less parts wear. And all they would need to do is just change the barrel.
Back in the '90s I was very good friends with a gun store owner and he said that the big three Ruger Remington and Winchester called a 2-in group out of their rifles. Good. Most of them you would get an inch and a quarter. Some an inch and a half but rarely you ever got an inch group in the 1990s! And as of years and the decades have passed everything becomes better and better and better and you pay for it out of your wallet
Reinventing the wheel. Even Prc rounds are hard to come by. Everybody who buys this gun is going to hate the price of ammo and will have trouble sourcing them.
what's funny is my 1963 Ishapore Enfield in .308 will do the same thing using good old surplus ammo, and I even use it to shoot skeet and trap out to 100 yards, so depending on the gun/ammo/skill, you can be lucky enough to get the same results, with that said the rig/ammo you are using would be my 1st. choice for big game hunting!
7 PRC is not going away. Id be m ore concerned about 7BC being short lived. That being said, I already have a 7BC barrel on order and am awaiting my distributors getting the ammo in stock. 7BC cannot survive unless other Ammo manufacturers begin to load for it. Your data is incorrect as well, my 22" 7 PRC has no issue hitting 3000fps, you do not need a 24".
I have seen about dozen youtubers testing factory loads for the 7prc with 22 and 24" barrels and it is consistently hitting below advertised velocities. I do believe it was backfire that had a contact at hornaday that said because they couldn't get reloader 24 powder I believe it was they couldn't hit 3k fps on FACTORY loads. So his info isn't wrong. Just because I am guessing you reload your own you can get whatever velocity you are trying to achieve. Call me crazy but if you can get prc velocities or better out of shorter barrels; especially if ammo becomes readily available it will take off faster than a CA wildfire.
My final opinion on this cartridge is I'm getting one and seeing what I think for myself. Every video I watch people say different things. Some guy says a 2 inch group at 100 yards is about as good as it can do. And the extreme spread is like 200 fps. One guy says very little recoil and it kicks less than the PRC. One guy says recoil is quite stout. One guy says federal has said barrel life is similar to 280 AI. One guy said federal has said barrel life is similar to 7mm PRC. One guy says it's going to burn through barrels faster than any other cartridge on earth. I will say, most of the people with actual experience with the caliber are much more positive about it than those just speculating about it. I just wish there was an actual common thread between videos on this cartridge.
You said it. Fan bois be speculating a lot. Probably because of ego and the fact that they're trying to justify all the money they invested in other cartridges and guns.
Not for me. I shoot factory ammunition into the dirt just to get brass to reload. Honestly I don't even like the idea of higher pressure cases. Too many many new reloaders trying to see how fast they can push bullets already.
@@steveperry3538Your modern rifles were tested with proof loads past 80k psi. For the most part the brass can't handle these pressures. The action, barrel, and bolt from what federal says can handle it.
I'm very curious about the metal composition of the cartridge. I did electroplating for 13 years chrome plating the lands and grooves of 20 and 30 mm gatling gun systems for the military.
Not really a catridge for us in the east. My 280rem goes 3000fps with a 140gr and 2900fps with a 150gr. If I moved up to the 170gr it would be down around 2750 to 2800fps...so it offers really no advantage to people in the eastern market over the traditional 7mm mag, 280rem, 270win. I don't think it will sell well here. How long has it been since they tried to tell us the that the 6.5 cm was the next best thing to sliced bread? My 100 year old 6.5 swed begs to differ....
Looks like the future to me. If at some point reloadable for the average reloader that will be a plus. Factory ammo about the same price as PRC ammo, looking forward to trying it out.
Good group but the suppressor actually increases velocity like a longer barrel to make the record straight. Even with some muzzle brakes you can get another 18 fps more in velocity.
Most modern chambers can actually handle 100,000psi and don't forget, it's the special steel case that's taking up that pressure difference....not the chamber.
I am not a 7mm BC simp but, I've looked at that specific issue. It will not be a chamber killer any more than it's equivalents in powder capacity. It's not pressure that effects chamber and throat, it's unburnt powder.
As long as the action is strong, as just about all modern metallurgy and engineering allow, those pressure levels aren't really a problem at the action. The real problem is greatly accelerated barrel heating and the accompanying bore erosion. I would expect barrel life to be maybe half that of 7mm PRC or other comparable calibers.
If you have the same sized action, the thinner body allows for thicker chamber walls, which would be needed with the higher pressure. I’m not saying I’m sold on this idea, but one of the things that gives smokeless powders a performance advantage over black powder is the increased pressure. So, maybe guns being able to fire higher pressure cases is something that will catch on, but, judging from the comments, probably not.
I don’t think a dead animal will care about another 150 FPS. People think about what they invested into the barrel life is going to be horrible and the life span of the suppressor will be greatly reduced for very little benefit. the start up cost will be very expensive just to get into it. People can’t afford all this.
I think its gonna fizzle out. One big reason is no one can touch Hornadays marketing lol they own the market space. Not enough is known about reloading. And a big hurdle will be availability and cost. Definitely interesting and possibly high pressure casings will become the hot new trend. But only time will tell.
Glad Federal is trying something new. Not sure about reloadability with steel. That'd be a deal breaker. 277 Fury is almost in the same category . Lets see how it evolves.
how are these pressure and velocity increases going to effect throat erosion and barrel life? It woud be awesome if they used the exact chamber dimensions of the 280 ai so you could also shoot and fire form 280 rem and ai if you want to use handloads and factory brass rounds out of the rifle
Honestly it is the proprietary steel alloy case that makes it do what it does. You could in theory make rounds to the dimensional cartridge specs for any rifle with that case technology and increase the velocity because it would take higher pressures. This cartridge may hold its own only time will tell. But it will only be for the people that want to use a suppressor and shorten their rig. Not too sure how this cartridge will fair. The marketing on this will not stand up to the marketing of the PRC's. Imagine the PRC's using a cartridge with the proprietary case technology. This cartridge does lack in the reloadability of the case. Everything has its pros and cons. Factory loads often don't shoot the groups that custom reloads do.
@@texpatriot8462 Higher chamber pressures = higher temperatures = higher bore erosion The math involved to calculate it is out of my league, but trading powder charge for dramatically higher pressures is probably either a tiny advantage for barrel life or possibly lesser barrel life.
@@Gunners_Mate_Guns As understand it from Hornady podcasts, Heat is certainly a factor, but the critical factor is particles of unburnt powders mixed in with escaping gas (and the heat). Those particles act essentially like sandpaper on the throat. Plus, the BC is clearly a medium/big game hunting round. I don't foresee many shooters using it for competitions since competition guns usually have long barrels. Bottom line,I don't think many BC barrels will get shot out.
It looks like someone beat me to the punch. The reason the 28 nossler has a sub 1k barrel life is because of all that unburned powder burning up the throat. If because the pressure is upped and most if not all of the powder is burned before the throat you'll not have to worry about your hunting rifle barrel in your life time. If I am not mistaken federal proofed these rounds to around 120k psi so 80 is nothing.
As a Canadian firearms owner and hunter I am grateful silencers aren't allowed up here. Should knock off the 28 Nosler for sure. Benchrest shooters will not give up the 7mm PRC due to reloading. Especially since Lapua just released brass. I think it’s a great addition to the 7mm family. Time will tell on the steel cases if people will adapt.

@@EricThompsonClimber probably. But guys like me won’t buy it because I do reload. I am happy with 3000 ft./s in my 7 PRC.
The PRCs are like NASCAR cars the design of the aero dynamics are a big hit because they are true and proven the Back Country is a F1 car and it really can't relate to the outside world as in you can't reload it. Personally if the market goes south like it has I would hate to being dependent on Industry that has problems just keeping up with demands that's a hard pass. I will stick with my 300 PRC. And no I am not upset as the creator is thinking. this too (7mm Back Country) will pass.
@@tomasdunn4847 yeah I need a cartridge to be able to be reloaded before I will consider buying it. I love the idea of the backcountry. I don’t love the fact it cannot be reloaded.
@edstettin6799 yup That's is a serious requisite for me and deal breaker I just can't justify it. Another thing that makes this a hard pill to swallow is what is the barrel life on that going to be like 600-900 RDS?
The meaning of CAPS LOCK is a function on a computer keyboard that mimics the effect of holding down a shift key.
What a sham. Federal, make components and ammo affordable, not MORE shitty magnumish expensive cartridges.
7mm mag had us covered 50 years ago.
Not a chance it REPLACES a 7PRC
@ryanhigdon2343 🤣🤣🤣🤣 the 7 prc isn't even capable of replacing the 7 rem mag. It's not that special.
@ I completely agree it’s not that special but to say that the seven backcountry is going to do away with the seven PRC it’s just crazy. But you’re absolutely right the seven PRC doesn’t do anything very extra extravagant either.
@ryanhigdon2343 yup. And everyone has their preferences, and there's not a singular cartridge that's the end all be all.
@robertoaiello9342 it shoots heavy for caliber bullets without having to change to a faster twist rate barrel and reaming a chamber
@@bamareefer4387 I'm aware
We all knew it wouldn’t hit the 3,000 mark. The only good thing I see is the smaller diameter case as stated. I personally would still take the PRC.
You're taking a victory lap because in his gun it was 32fps the factory rating? In a 20" barrel? Factory PRC ammo would be 2800fps. Maybe 2900 if it was federal ammo and not Hornady.
This seems aimed at a very limited market, youtubers are losing it over this but I think I just keep my 7 mag and be happy with what i got.
Words of wisdom.
everyone hyping it, is profiting off doing so.
Wow. Good point.
Hey Will, warm greetings to you! How are you doing ? Let me know if you got this.
@@willg5013 my thoughts exactly! Imagine if federal took their “proprietary alloy” and made cases for all the existing popular chamberings? Talk about upsetting the apple cart!
I was thinking of 308 performing like a 300 wm or an 06 performing better than a 7prc.
Amazing video and explanation of the 7mm BC!

So why not make the same metal case for 7 PRC and get 3300 since it holds more powder ?
I guess with that much more powder it would be way over that 80k psi
Maybe Ask Hornady ?
Because it would still be ill relevant because we already have 28 nos and 7 weatherby mag at lower pressure, sammi approved, and reloadable. The 7 prc and the 7 mag have 3000fps covered. And this cartridge is so you can look like all the TH-cam hunters with suppressors and hunt high fences and go on fully guided hunts to be able to take animals. But they are “professional” hunters
@@GarrettRowland-ic1uo Oh, you are SO superior! SO impressed with your keyboard work!
Several TH-camrs have talked about less than stellar accuracy with the 7mm BC. For most guys that aren't trying to be snipers the 7mm-08 will handle most everything needed in the continental 48 states.
Moved to 270 and couldn’t be happier. But I was gonna go 7prc to maximize distance. The longer you hunt the better you’ll get and the farther you’ll shoot. This round looks like it’s gonna be the move
@ You must have replied to the wrong post, I never mentioned Barnes bullets.
Thanks for sharing your hunting trip results. That caribou is a beauty! My 300 Win Mag with an 18" barrel running a 225gr ELD has given me nothing but stellar results. These new cartridges are cool to see, however, yesterdays tech still will drop large animals.

7BC introduced
7PRC guys “I’m no giving up my 7PRC!”😂
Nor should they. Federal was bought out. Hornady has it's own issues, but they will get my money
I like the 6.5 PRC. Handloaded 150 grain at 3000 fps in a short action.
Wow !! 😮
It's one thing to support the company that supports you.
Yeah sure buddy. I'm sure you got that information from non-biast sources...
Truth on RCBS, they were having to run it thru a sizing die approximately 12 time's to get it down to size.
@@ev3dale298
Actually got the information from people who are involved with the development of the cartridge and are the first ones Actually showing everything they are dealing with when shooting the different ammo choices !!
I lived 25 years in northern Manitoba. And yes our gun laws suck.

I’m sticking with the 7 PRC.
I am sticking to sticks literally.
All cartridges will be made high pressure now...yes, needs a alloy case, who cares, do it!😊
Yours are the best groups I have seen with this cartridge.
By far. Fierce is only offering a 1MOA guarantee. And Alterra said they are seeing so-so accuracy at best... that it needs improvement.
Reinventing the wheel. Even Prc rounds are hard to come by. Everybody who buys this gun is going to hate the price of ammo and will have trouble sourcing them.
I travel all over the US for work…every major outdoor store has all the PRCs on the shelf. Most gun stores I go into have all 3 of them.
@jeffwilliams3436 come to maryland. I have to travel 70 miles into Morgantown WV to get 6.5prc.
@@brandonboyce2995 if your ever in Richmond VA. Green Top has as much 6.5 PRC as 6.5 creedmoor. Bass pro in Hanover has it as well.
It's called Ammoseek, u should try it lol
what's funny is my 1963 Ishapore Enfield in .308 will do the same thing using good old surplus ammo, and I even use it to shoot skeet and trap out to 100 yards, so depending on the gun/ammo/skill, you can be lucky enough to get the same results, with that said the rig/ammo you are using would be my 1st. choice for big game hunting!
Says everyone who's butt-hurt because they've already spent a fortune on PRC.
Smells awfully similar to the 224 Valkyrie craze.
BTW, there were 14 companies displaying their 7 Backcountry rifles at the SHOT show.
Agree 💯. I don’t want to sit behind 80,000 pounds of chamber pressure
My 100 year old 6.5 swed begs to differ....
imagine making a .50 BMG with that alloy or any huge sniper rounds, the velocity would be awesome!
80000 PSI sounds like a chamber killer. I'll stick with the 7PRC with 24" barrel
They already thought of that issue. The cartridges are so expensive, you'll never be able to afford enough ammo to erode the barrel throat.
@@TheB3e3it's literally the same cost as factory PRC
I think we’re living in some interesting times for rifle cartridge design, where 80k pressures will be the new norm for anything high performance.
Who owns Federal now, and what country are they from?
Czechoslovak group (CSG). From Czech Republic
@ sadly, that is even more of a reason not to support them
not being brass is it reloadable?
From what I've heard, it is going to deform less, and it should be relatively easy to reload supposedly.
Allegedly reloadable with a “different” process from Federal but I haven’t seen details about what that is or how it’s different.
Not likely, RCBS was working on the project with dies, was taking 12 runs thru the sizing die before it would take a bullet.
It’s just another hunting round, not a precision cartridge like the PRC
😂😂😂😂
OK PRC fan-boy.
@ev3dale298 yeah. Some have zero perspective.
Allterra arms with their 7k custom rifles changed my perspective, go watch for yourself
It’s just my opinion, opinions are like assholes, everyone’s got one..
How does it compare to the 7mm RUM?
I don’t think a dead animal will care about another 150 FPS. People think about what they invested into the barrel life is going to be horrible and the life span of the suppressor will be greatly reduced for very little benefit. the start up cost will be very expensive just to get into it. People can’t afford all this.
You stated that your setup was a factory setup with the proof barrel, but will it group with a normal factory steel barrel?
Great review. I'll stick to 7mm PRC. Can't imagine sourcing this Back Country ammo or reloading components up here in Canada in the next 2-5 years.
Ill stick with my PRC s and unsealed jug of RL26... 😘
Interesting so 7mm BC has more punch and faster fps than 7mm rem mag but 7mm RUM is still ahead both of them ?
Very little people want to shoot ultra magnums
Guess I'm little, love the rums!
The 7 RUM is still the fastest 7. And with a suppressor feels like a 243 seriously its super easy to shot with a can!
I think its gonna fizzle out. One big reason is no one can touch Hornadays marketing lol they own the market space. Not enough is known about reloading. And a big hurdle will be availability and cost. Definitely interesting and possibly high pressure casings will become the hot new trend. But only time will tell.
I wonder the velocity the Shetek round would do with that alloy case!
I see Hornady doing a 6.5 Super ARC… or something now 😂
Glad Federal is trying something new. Not sure about reloadability with steel. That'd be a deal breaker. 277 Fury is almost in the same category . Lets see how it evolves.
Besides cost per round being expensive, what’s the barrel life running that fast? Boat tail pressure cutting?
how are these pressure and velocity increases going to effect throat erosion and barrel life?
It doesn’t compare to the 28 Nosler
Dont say suppressor. Say cochlear protectors
How do you like the Caldwell Velociradar??
What about barrel life with that much pressure
Pressure doesn't kill barrels. The more powder the more recoil. With less powder than its competitors, it should have a longer barrel life.
@@texpatriot8462 Higher chamber pressures = higher temperatures = higher bore erosion
The math involved to calculate it is out of my league, but trading powder charge for dramatically higher pressures is probably either a tiny advantage for barrel life or possibly lesser barrel life.
It looks close 300 Win Mag ballistics! 🤠
As a Canadian firearms owner and hunter I am grateful silencers aren't allowed up here. Sure its reloadable, just trim the case length and reprime it
Should knock off the 28 Nosler for sure. Benchrest shooters will not give up the 7mm PRC due to reloading. Especially since Lapua just released brass.

To me this is a solution looking for a problem. How much speed do you really need? 200 yards at that speed? The average hunter probably doesnt shoot much past 150. How about barrel life?
very cool. I wonder if there is potential for that steel casing in other calibers to approximate bigger offerings?... steel cased 30-06 /that acts more like a 300 winmag... I wonder what the long term effects of shooting at higher pressures... do the barrels just not last as long or?!...
ALLEGEDLY the steel is cheaper. In theory ur steel cased 30-06/win mag would have cheaper ammo... but will they let that happen..nooooooo
@dores34 good point...
It will never happen!
Why is this only coming in expensive ass rifles any one notice that
Because it is only a “niche “ filler and was never expected to go to a bigger market!!!
Nearly 200 fps below box velocity is not good for marketing! Box says 3150 and you got 2960ish, this rig is expensive to start with and the ammo price will be up there too! Something tells me that the case may not be reloadable with the special alloy used and there is no published load data at this time. I’ll stick with the 7MM Rem mag
3150 is a 24" barrel. 3000 is out of a 20". So he was only 32fps shy which is pretty normal for factory ammo.
