    The Resonator is actually a reference to H.P. Lovecraft's 'The Beyond', which was confirmed by Carl Merriam on his Flickr page.
    The set also features another reference to Lovecraft with the Altar of Alhazred in the manor's attic. In Lovecraft lore, Abdul Alhazred wrote the infamous Necromonicon.

      The reason I didn’t talk about those is because I really only want to stick to lego Easter eggs. Lego is what I know and talk about. I don’t know anything about the lovecraft so I didn’t mention them.

    Baron von Baron is a descendant of Basil the Batlord CONFIRMED!!?? 👀👀👀
    Maybe not, but that's just a theory...A LEGO THEORY!!!!

    I genuinely had zero clue on how jam packed this set was with its interesting variety of Easter eggs?! 😯 The Junk Bot Easter egg definitely feels like a pretty random deep cut to reference, and I love that! 😆

    I love this set’s implication that Von Baron might be a descendent of Basil the Bat Lord. His manor’s crest has the bat and the reference to Basil, and one of the graves has a bat above it. It would be really interesting to find out Basil’s full name was “Basil Sinister, the Bat Lord” all along!

    • @BrickingUpBrad
      @BrickingUpBrad  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I feel like baron von baron isn’t a descendent and more of the fact that basil is a villian that kind of goes with holloween and they wanted to attach a scary villian to a scary set

    My main takeaway is that Baron von Baron is a guy who might actually be two guys, and also might be a descendant of a villain from the Knights theme because of a set number in roman numerals appearing on an amusement park ride that came out around 22 years later
    fascinating.

    I don't usually do day-one purchases, especially not when it comes to large and expensive LEGO sets. But I just adored 10273 Haunted House and every easter egg crammed in here, so I made a special exception just for it! Having been a huge fan of Adventurers as well as Alpha Team, Fright Knights, and Junkbot, this set felt like a love letter.
    1:26 I don't believe this necessarily creates an inconsistency in the timeline. In the LEGO Mania Magazine comics and the Haunted House's lore, Pharaoh Hotep's "curse" is Samuel von Barron being forced to listen to Hotep's bad jokes and puns after stealing the Re-Gou, which slowly drove him mad. Even while going insane, he's still of sound enough mind to build the Resonator and Madman's Elevator in Manor von Barron. So, it's still plausible that he could go on later adventures in the Dino Island and Orient Expedition storylines while under the curse's effect. Perhaps von Barron going crazy during this time is one of many possible explanations for the Sam Sinister Switcheroo?
    Although, the bigger inconsistency is that in every version of the original story (whether in the magazine comics or the German audio drama), Samuel von Barron's plot to steal the Re-Gou is ultimately foiled. He takes it but always loses it shortly afterward. It either stays safely with Hotep in his tomb, or it is taken by the heroic adventurers and brought to a museum. Maybe he stole the Re-Gou again from the museum sometime after the events of the theme?
    7:26 Additionally, that same dynamite plunger design appears in Samuel von Barron's car in set 7414 Elephant Caravan.
    9:42 I agree, this is weird! But I wonder if somehow the Resonator turned the Re-Gou from red to blue when it extracted its magic power?

    I only had a few Adventurers sets. My mom got me the Amazon Ancient Ruins one year... maybe for my birthday? I still think Achu is an amazing fig. Especially for 25 years ago. Almost enough detail to be a CMF. I think his cape alone goes for $15 these days, lol
    I don't recall any of the lore around Señor Palomar. The guy in the white suit? Was he just a henchman, or a rival villain?
    Great video! I always enjoy all the research you put into them. Thanks!

    This was a lovely set. And so many prints (for Easter Eggs no less ...
    My favorite Easter Eggs are the printed nexo knights shield with the bat and helm (really useful for some bat knight's crypt or the likes) and the Sphinx head (I am partial to that set, being one of my last sets in the early 2000s).

    My potential timeline is that Baron stole the jewel, and while fleeing, their car crashed in a fireball. Killing Sam Sinister. Baron stole Sam’s identity to keep his reputation as intact as he could. Going on multiple adventures after, and researching the gem in between. When he returned, he tried to harness the gem’s power. Which failed and unleashed 2 spirits. He was starting to feel the effects of the curse by now and going mad, and with one last painting… he died. He was found a skeleton hanging in the attic by a butler a few days later.

  • @atomicstud
    @atomicstud 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    It’s pretty inconsistent with Baron Von Baron. He and Sam Sinister both appear in the same set together in some desert sets. They even ride in the same car in set 2879, Desert Expedition. In my opinion, they were originally different characters, but were combined into the same in the Orient Expedition sub theme.

    • @BrickingUpBrad
      @BrickingUpBrad  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Also in Dino island. But also in other countries they were called different names too.

      In my canon, the Baron’s full name was actually Baron Samuel Sinister von Barron, and Slyboots just travelled under the Baron’s real name to throw Thunder and the gang off his trail. That would explain why Slyboots doesn’t turn up again but Sinister remains in two other themes.

    I frankly hate that this set is an amusement park ride and not an "actual" haunted house. It implies that, in the world of THIS Lego set, Johnny Thunder and crew are not actual people, but rather an intellectual property around which to build theme park rides.
    Unless the argument is that someone actually bought Baron Von Baron's house and turned it into a drop ride, which makes no sense either. The engineering involved to turn an actual house into a ride would be borderline impossible.
    I understand that all this is fictional, but it means that Johnny Thunder is one level MORE fake than the standard LEGO world.
    Why yes, I am an overthinker. Why do you ask ?

    • @BrickingUpBrad
      @BrickingUpBrad  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But you actually have a good point here.😂 I was thinking the same thing. My thinking is Jonny thunder was a real person in this lore and there was a house that was called manor von Barron and the haunted house ride which was based off of “the historical” stories of Johnny thunder and baron von baron. That make sense? But honestly they should have just made manor Von baron would have been an even better set!

    • @BrotherhoodWorkshop
      @BrotherhoodWorkshop 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BrickingUpBrad rebuttal: if this were a true story, it would be kind of horrifying to make an amusement park ride based on someone who got forever imprisoned by an evil curse. Imagine Disneyland making a theme park ride based around the drowing of Rasputin.
