I adore that the protagonist of this song is such a cheerful soul that he puts up with having all his possessions stolen and being made to sail the Irish Sea in a literal pigsty, but as soon as he hears English people badmouthing Ireland he goes ballistic.

This is amazing! "Rocky Road to Dublin", is one of my favorite Irish folk songs. Listening to your original cover of it, and your cover of "Star of the County Down" , helps keep me sane on the craziest of work days.

He strikes me as a vocalist who has just mastered his breathing, I wasn't a vocalist in school but I did play brass. Combined breathing is essential for professional vocalists and minimizing the sound you make while doing so is also a separate matter entirely, if you watch closely you can see him taking breaths almost as soon as he gets to an S sound, that's a very easy way of hiding the breath behind a sharp sound. It just makes his technique even more impressive when you notice it!
Actually, if you check out some of his older videos, you can hear some breathing. Even so, it doesn't really change the quality of the music.
Amazing breath control and a good microphone gate can cut breathes out. Maybe some audio equalizing can remove those frequencies, but of course tech can only go so far. Colm is just that good.
If you look at some The High Kings lives you'll see the whistle dude just never visibly inhaling at all
He could be inhaling through his nose while singing. Incredibly hard to do, but if you have enough practice its possible. I did it a couple of times while in my high school band. On accident mostly but when adrenaline kicks in its easier.

I love how the banjo is used for exactly two types of music and both are equally looked down upon by the country of origin, Irish shanties that originated from bogger Irish peasants and blue grass that originated from Irish immigrants that were equally bogger and eventually developed Southern accents and started getting very fermillar with their cousins and such

@@KBaiL I haven't listened to Geoff's performances half as extensively as I have listened to Colm ngl, but if you were to recommend a few songs from Geoff I'd listen to them.
In my opinion however, having heard Geoff's performance of Misty Mountains, I wasn't as impressed as I was with Colm's Misty Mountains (in Dwarvish/Khuzdul).
@@KBaiL maybe deeper but less powerful than him. colm has an unusually deep timbre and powerful voice that even basses like Geoff or Tim don’t have in my opinion

Full disclosure, I was a tad disappointed at first, thinking you opted not to do the gradual buildup of energy before reaching a crescendo at the end, like in your previous cover.

Honestly, I know im late to the party but those fry vocals near the end caught me off guard. I had to rewind like 6 times just to make sure I was hearing that correctly.
