I am at about 49k on my 2018 LT and neither of these are prevalent. From what I have read, the chevy shake on these trucks are caused by the shitty drive shafts, this is also why they are speed limited. At 90MPH the driveshaft can split in half, most shops wont dyno the truck with the stock driveshaft either.

I have an early 2019 double cab with the 5.3L that has the "old style" body which is essentially the same as a 2018. It's been a great truck so far (35k miles) but as I put more miles on it, two potential issues that concern me are carbon build-up on the intake valves due to direct injection and failure of the AFM. Any thoughts?
Run a top end treatment on your next oil change and run some super tech injector cleaner through the tank, then run it at 3500 rpm on the highway for about a minute, should burn up all your carbon deposits and get it running better.
@@paulm749 no problem! The guy in the video says that disabling the AFM is a simple solution, but for it to work properly and not create carbon deposits you need to swap the lifters for non-AFM ones. As long as you keep up on the regularly scheduled maintenance of your engine, carbon deposits shouldn’t be too much of an issue as I believe a carbon cleaning is part of a service interval (any Chevy certified techs pls correct me if I’m wrong). For Mazda Skyactiv’s for example, at 35k miles a carbon cleaning is recommended by the manufacturer To do a good carbon cleaning without using solvents, a method I’ve heard of that works is to go to harbor freight and get a media blaster, an air compressor, and a vacuum with a hose and blast whatever has carbon deposits with ground up walnut shells as media then vacuum it up. Why walnuts? Non-corrosive, but abrasive enough and has a low combustion temperature and is too soft to damage the block but hard enough to chip off carbon deposits.
@@SailingFrolic I've read about replacing the lifters, but it seems I should also replace the cam with one appropriate for a non-AFM set-up, so it's a big job requiring not only major work on the top of the engine, but removal of most of the front end and the radiator as well. Besides the time and cost of the work, you are left with reduced fuel efficiency. I'm getting @ 22mpg year round now, but after the AFM deletion would likely see that drop down to 17 or 18 mpg. At that point, I should have just bought a Tundra and saved myself all this trouble. I just wish there was some way to make the AFM more reliable. Unfortunately, it seems to be a design that's inherently flawed and it's not a question of if it will break, but when.
@@paulm749 yup. I took a look at some Tundras on the lot recently and they’re looking a lot better in the engine bay than the silverado. Call it heresy if you want, but when it comes to electronics in engines, Japan has it down to a science. US, not so much.
It certainly is, depending on price and service history. My 2017 is going strong at 95,000 miles. I bought it 4 years ago at 77,000 with good service history and I stay on top of transmission fluid changes as well as oil changes.
Purchased my 2018 Silverado 1500 4x4 Z71. 5.3 engine with 6 speed trans. great truck until 124,000 km (77,000 miles) then the trouble started (Vehicle is super well maintained to the letter) Initial issue was turn key and no start battery full charged, diagnostics revealed issue with starter relay and was replaced no more starting issues. 2 days later Engine light comes on and engine starts chugging code says Cyl 5 misfire, and then Stabilitrack comes on, no more ABS or Cruise control Transmission downshifts very hard when coming to a stop made appointment at dealership for this , not a happy camper.
Hey I am thinking of buying a silverado 2018 with Z71. I live in a city and will be doing 80 percent on a road driving. Do you think it is ok with buy z71?
Saves your lifters too. Only downside Iv’e noticed is that it can trigger a engine light if you idle for a couple hours. Also it drains the battery when the truck is off. It can kill battery if not started in a week.
@@grayrider1865 You are wrong. Testing has shown that the Range modules have a very small battery draw when the vehicle is off and in "sleep" mode. This is because it needs a monitor running to catch when the vehicle is started. This small draw is not enough to adversely affect battery life or drain the battery unless left in place for an extended period of time (i.e. more than a week or two). The device will go to a VERY low "sleep" state after the engine is off (within 3-10 seconds of the engine shutting off) In this state all the LEDs are OFF and it hibernates at about 1-3mA Every 7-25 seconds it will wake up to a "light sleep" state to check to see if the vehicle is running. In this mode, there will still be NO LEDS lit but current draw will spike for < 0.1 sec to about 7-10mA. If the vehicle is NOT running (i.e. RPM < 500) then it'll go back to deep sleep. Rinse and repeat until the vehicle is running, at which time it'll fire up completely and you'll start seeing LEDs light again.

Question for anybody willing to drop some knowledge . I’m looking at a 2019 5.3L with 4k on the odometer for 31k. Is this truck a gas guzzler? Can it be an everyday truck ?
That’s a really good deal in today’s market. Some food for thought… V8 full size trucks depreciate at a slower pace than almost any “fuel efficient” car or crossover. Fuel is only one component of total cost of ownership.

Hello! I am thinking to buy Silverado 2018. Any suggestion what to check on test drive?
2018 Chevy Silverado Lt with 88.000 miles worth it ??
2 days later Engine light comes on and engine starts chugging code says Cyl 5 misfire, and then Stabilitrack comes on, no more ABS or Cruise control Transmission downshifts very hard when coming to a stop made appointment at dealership for this , not a happy camper.
update? I'm looking to buy one with 50k miles on it. now I'm hesitant.
Just got a 2018 z71 with 30k. So Fr so good
Very sweet ride
Hey I am thinking of buying a silverado 2018 with Z71. I live in a city and will be doing 80 percent on a road driving. Do you think it is ok with buy z71?
Did you ever try the AFM Disabler? V8 all the time doesn’t void warranty. Saves transmission
The device will go to a VERY low "sleep" state after the engine is off (within 3-10 seconds of the engine shutting off)
In this state all the LEDs are OFF and it hibernates at about 1-3mA
Every 7-25 seconds it will wake up to a "light sleep" state to check to see if the vehicle is running.
Thanks for the input...don't like new gen.
Waiting on 2022 model refresh. If not then thinking about 2018 crew. Like the old look. Very cln truck. Any problems?
I have same truck bought it used getting a rotten egg smell from engine what could it be
Hey so I got a question. Imma be buying a truck but as a family car so I don’t have to be driving around in a mini van lol. How is it for daily driving and road trips. Of course I will be buying the crew cab. But is it Comfortable? Not too bumpy on regular road?
I heard a lot about 2018 having issues i wanna get a 2018 chevy silverado Harley davidson
Nice seats how often do you condition them and what do you use?
The truck world has such an interesting population of buyers. I don't know how people can stand NOT having bedliner. Why destroy the value when you can just invest in standard protection. And carpeting is nearly as insane. What is this, Lincoln Blackwood? jk jk. Thanks for the video!
Problems you have had with it ?
I have the off road menu and my 2017 is not a Z71?
what kind of shades are those?!
I have a 2018 1500 LT Z71 with only 15000 miles, have you disabled the AFM? IF you pull up the mileage info and drive it goes back and forth from 8 to 4 cylinders and will cause serious issues, I disabled mine with the Range.
How did you disable it??
Uhm just curious which transmission you have? Would you recommend either the 6 or 8 speed?
6. Less problems
@@scorpionic3599 thanks. That’s what I ended up with. Just picked up a 2018 with 10k miles on her.
@@jacklaporte472 congrats, good for you man hope she runs like a dream
Sharp truck!
price?
Hate to be off subject, but where did you get those sunglasses! I want them!
Almost certain it was eyebuydirect! They are prescription lenses too! 100 bucks i believe! And i cant find them i lost them since i filmed this vlog lol
Oh no! Lol I guess figuring out the style is nit possible now lol! Great vid though!
Do you have a link for your bed mat?
I got one delivered by Amazon , cheap too.
What’s the name of the band right at 7:20?
Clean looking truck but I’d look into getting some newer better tires
Yeah im getting close to spending some money on some rubber!
reliability? 8-sp tyranny issues or mpg? Did I miss those?
The 8 speed was optional, most v6 and smaller v8 5.3 like his most likely has the 6 speed. I believe his model is just the 5.3 but I could be wrong
Don't forget the snapping, cracking noise from the rear springs when backing out and driving in an incline, like a driveway. The pads GM put inside the leaf springs didn't work.
Not on mine.
I have the same issue with my leaf springs. My temporary fix is smothering Lucas all purpose grease.
Picked up a 2021 Duramax a month ago.
Great review but I prefer round wheel wells
lol. I get flashed almost every night driving my Silverado. Sick of it. Going to just get some brighter led lights. Give them a reason to flash me.
Dislike the square wheel wells
It's 2022 I only have 26'000 miles on mine
Looked at a 2017 LT 5.3 non flex fuel 4WD... Nice but with 132k for 25k I'm not so sure that's worth it
Question for anybody willing to drop some knowledge .
@@TruckCentral So come to find out they have a typo on the cars Odometer online an the truck actually has 44k miles not 4k . Unbelievable
@@preshj0hnson Still not the worst deal, but that definitely sucks. Looks like everyone is incompetent these days! Be glad you found out before you bought it. Happy Holidays
@@TruckCentral So like it said come to find out the truck doesn’t have 4k on the odometer the dealership made a typo online it actually has 44k miles. This makes me have a funny feeling about this dealership ya know ? & idk if I want to move forward with them. Luckily, I’m also looking at a 2020 F150 XL super crew with only 15k miles but it’s a 2.7 ecoboost the asking price on this one is 43k out the door. Would love your opinion.
@@preshj0hnson We have a really good 2.7 ecoboost owner’s review on the channel… you should definitely watch that. It’s a really good engine (better than the 3.5 in many ways), but if you really want a V8, you won’t be happy. I honestly think the price they’re asking for that 5.3 Silverado is still a good deal, even with 40k miles. If the truck is otherwise clean, there isn’t much risk at that price.
Mines just over 100k. Shes still a baby..
Whats the color called?
Deep ocean blue metallic
this guy just talks about cosmetic 💄 ...I have same truck and honestly the transmission down shifting is getting me a headache big clunk 😩😫..and other issues too. I think I'm just gonna trated...
when the truck goes into V4 mode, you want that quiet exhaust lol It will drone like hell. (2018 owner) lol unless you chip or delete that.
Don't damage those damn headlight fixtures. They cost a fortune to replace! I like the headlights on the 1999-2007 GMs better.
Always like that on my 99 Sierra. Take the rods out to remove head light. Easy.
porque no ponen el consumo total en el tablero?
So nothing has gone wrong ?
Nice truck! Where is that beautiful farm?
Lmao he thinks a bed rug is good for rocks.
I was specifically iterating the rugs coverage between the tailgate crease and the truck bed. Also how it protects the bare paint beneath.
Nice grocery getter
That's a nascar
Got same truck worst truck iv ever owned
Why you say that
Why?
7 thumbs down are Dodge truck owners fixing their transmissions for a 3rd time at 50K miles!
The 8 speed on the Silverado are not reliable lol.
One of them was for the handgun. I thought it'd be a review of how reliable it was...etc. Nope. Just showing off compensation for ...you know.
@@7thkev519 I only have 155k on mine?
