You dont have to pick a super high trim truck though if you want every bell and whistle you'll pay the price. I work for a ford dealer and so many people come in wanting king ranch/platinum equipment for an STX price. I think best bang/buck is the xlt or if your feeling a bit fancier lariat. You also have to compare these trucks capabilities amd features to trucks of the 25-35k max new era. F 150 5.0 gets 17/22 (@395hp/470 ft/lb). The 00 got 15/17 (@260hp/350ft/lb)
To compare the 7.3 international TD made (275hp/525ft/lb)
      01 F 350 could hitch 13.9klb and 5th wheel 14.2k. 2019 150 can hitch 13.2k

Whoa! Dude, that Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) problem you mention is probably not what is happening. What you might be experiencing is just the torque converter auto lock-up cycling in and out when you accelerate at highway speeds, which is what it is supposed to do. The RPM naturally goes up slightly, which is the whole point. Active fuel management has nothing to do with RPM going up or down. I have this same engine in my 2017 Suburban and the cylinder deactivation is totally 100% seamless and absolutely undetectable unless I have the V4-V8 indicator light on which tells you what the engine is doing (I have it off almost always). Other than that you bought an excellent truck and that engine is amazing -- it will serve you well for a long time.

Great video of the Silverado, I have that same truck, it's Awesome, I put the truck in tow mode alot in the city and it elimanates the shifting he was talking about, can also do it on the highway and still get good gas mileage, around 19.3/23.2 that's city and highway with a 70 mph speed limit, if you were to do 60 mph on highway it gets about 24.7, not bad and that's pulling a trailer with 2 ATV on the back, in the city it takes the quick shifting out right away from light to light, that's nice

Just a thought.

I have a 2016 I bought brand new with 9 miles on it. I had it tuned to delete the AFM immediately after hearing the horror stories of broken lifters and oil consumption (this was when I had about 5,000 miles on the truck). After 42,000 trouble-free miles with the tune, I have no issues. I get 17mpg combined between highway and city driving. What drove me nuts was when the AFM started kicking in WHILE TOWING, and was making the rear-end cluck going between V4 and V8 (and I tow quite a bit). With the tune, I have no more issues with the clunking. Not to mention, the tune really woke up the power of the 5.3L. And no, I don't care about voiding the warranty. I do all the work myself on my vehicles (which I love to do). So this was an easy choice for me.

Of course it affects the aero! I'm a fan of capability (like off roading) and need fuel efficiency, so I wish GM could spend a couple dollars on making the lower valence spoiler hinged (like my C5 Corvette) as they really do help the aero, but hurt the approach angle and clearance when down. I modify aero on vehicles, and it's not complicated to to this. You have the best of both worlds when this is able to be folded up and down. (Kind of like grill shutters that are capable of opening and closing). GM can't spare an extra $5 on this, as they're only profiting $20G on their $70k trucks!

I love hearing people complain about AFM ... I have the 5.3 w/eAssist, so 8spd transmission, and I NEVER feel the engine switching from V4 to V8. I'll purposely drive on the highway with the DIC on the fuel mileage screen so I can actually try to detect a shimmy or spike in RPM when it switches. It's flawless. Why would you not want your V8 to try and save on gas when it can? I find mine drives mostly in V4 on the highway because of the eAssist - the battery prolongs the V4 operation.
Same feelings towards the Auto/Stop function. I'm super impressed at how smooth it is on the Silverado given how big the motor is. I rent a lot of cars for work and can tell you Jeep's Auto/Start tech is awful, so clumsy. My Silverado's Auto/Stop is even smoother than my Buick's with a 2.0 turbo.

I bought an 18 Silverado Z71 LT, almost identical to the one featured in this video, last year due to price, roughly 15k off MSRP before trade. I wish I would've gone with a Ford after owning this truck for 10 months and 14500 miles.
I, too, have the issue where AFM causes drivability concerns. At times it seems the transmission is slipping when using cruise control, turns out it is the AFM.
The seats are relatively comfortable, but, being a larger guy, the seat trim creaks/squeaks when getting in and out of the truck. If you look at the cushion, it goes below the trim towards the rear of the seat bottom.
MPG has not been what I was expecting during my time owning this truck. Best tank I have had, during break in, was 21.2 mpg. Combined I am averaging right around 14.5 up to 15.5. Seems to not matter how I accelerate, it is always in this range.
Overall it is a good truck, but minor things are making me consider switching while I have a large amount of equity in the truck.

If you live in a climate that sees freezing temperatures look into the f150 door latches freezing. They all have this issue, and so far do not have a working repair.

@@andrewromain7756 I have seen that, but doesn't scare me away from them. I have had 2 different F150s and 2 others in the family. They have their quirks, like everything else, but overall seem to be of nicer build quality.
Especially like the fact their steering wheels are even in distance from the driver unlike the Silverados

@@castillon0 I'm not sure what you mean about the steering wheel not being an even distance, but I'll check that out next time I'm in a f150. I agree every vehicle has its quirks. My Silverado isn't perfect, but I had realistic expectations when I got it, and I'm happy with my choice.

@@andrewromain7756 Roman on TFL mentions it in many Silverado reviews that the steering wheel is at an angle. The F150 is straight at the driver.
If you put your right hand on 3 and your left on 9, you will notice 9 is much further away than 3 on the wheel.

Still rocking my 2013 1500 crew cab Silverado . The last year of that body style. 7 years later still loving it and it’s paid for. The 2019 lines in the fenders and the doors is repulsive. The 2018 is a thing of beauty. Don’t mess with the classic designs of 2007 to 2018.
