    I think that unless you have actually worked with wild horses you will be unable to understand and see how gentle and quiet Gerry is being with this horse, nor will you understand how Gerry uses his body language to keep the horse with him. Wild horses, especially older ones, take time and a whole lot of patience to allow you to touch them let alone halter them. And I know this from experience. And just so people are clear, these 'wild horses' are rounded up by the Bureau of Land Management each year to keep their numbers down and allow ranchers more room to graze their cows and other livestock. If they are not adopted they are doomed to spend their lives in holding corrals. I think if I were one of these captured horses I would prefer to be with Gerry.

    It interests me having watched so many of these horse-breaking videos. Horses in the wild don't make too much noise, theyre nearly silent, so as not to attract predators. So a captured horse is suddenly trapped but fed by his captor. And horses dont 'love you' , they merely tolerate you. If they whinny & call out its a sign of fear.
    To 'tame' a horse can be very ugly and cruel indeed. My mom used to gently break in rescued horses. She never used a circular pen, or forced them in any way. They became happy only because she had a very bright brain, an utter respect for the animal & never, but NEVER distressed them.

    I have a question for you!
    I have a 6 year old sorrel appendix mare who’s 16.3hh and is named Carmen Electra.
    She is unhandled and unbroke.
    Her bloodlines are along barrel racing and her original owner was a barrel racer herself who bred her mare to have a foal to build from the ground up. She left for college after the filly came off the mom and she took her horse (the mother) off to college with her but realized she didn’t have the time for her foal. After she left, the foal was left unhandled.
    - she was forced to be haltered as a yearling by being roped and tripped then tied down for the halter.
    She was left in a field of 30acers with that halter on until she was 5 where she was the. rehomed.
    -The owner who had her before me saw potential in her but didn’t have the patience to work with her any longer.
    - Carmen (the mare) still had the yearling hater on at 6 years of age and has permanent scars due to the halter. It did break from around her nose but was around her neck.
    The owner before me tried for a full year to remove the yearling halter from around her neck but had no luck. I came into contact with her and asked if I could come work with Carmen. I was able to successfully remove the halter peacefully in a week but now I’m stuck to where I can’t halter her. She will put her nose into the rope halter but will not let me put it over her head to fasten.
    I would really love to get some advice from you as I want to do it the correct way and make it a pleasant experience for her to rule out her first experience with being haltered.
    Do you have any tips or tricks that I should try? Thank you for your time.
    - Delaney Grace

    • @GerryCoxHorsemanship
      @GerryCoxHorsemanship  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      you do have your hands full... With her I'd say increments... Ne happy you can get her nose in the halter today...love her for it, give her a little treat, take it away.. quit for the day...repeat and expand each day but be very kind to this horse, ,she has had some trauma... it may take a lot longer.. P{perhaps herd her into a small 4-' road pen and learn some liberty work to establish some level of communication with her
      Keep me posted. Feel free to call 509-378-2251

    This is a great video, you did an amazing job. What size is the round pen you used here?
    And to all the people crying about him being mean to the horse, learn about horse training before judging. The description even says he’s using a break away rope so it *cant* hurt itself. If you think this is bad, you should see what a lot of idiots do and don’t post.

    • @GerryCoxHorsemanship
      @GerryCoxHorsemanship  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They quit making them. A thick plastic disc about 2.5" in diameter set back about 24". knot make your rope out of balance.. I've tried it.. this is a great product they used to sell at Nat Rope Supply. I'm thinking of making some. I bought several and gave them to friends...

    • @GerryCoxHorsemanship
      @GerryCoxHorsemanship  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did you use a break-away honda on that rope? I'd let her simply carry the loop around for a while with almost ZERO pull pressure then. She probably isn't ready for the pull, even Light Pull. No need to rush,, take a few days.. let her pack it and when she is released POP the honda off...

    • @GerryCoxHorsemanship
      @GerryCoxHorsemanship  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well depending on the hose and the circumstances, if he is REALLY wild, maybe just a few minutes several times per day, increase those sessions to several minutes several times per day.. Always quit when it appears he understands something, walk away, let him think. In THIS case, the lady had had the horse for many weeks and never gotten close to him. I was just hired to see if we could get him caught.

      One Day... Hahaha If he is in a CAGE I guess he's Domesticated! haha... They are sure all different eh?
