Thanks for rest of the story. Appreciated the explanation of your repairs for this vehicle. Should give many hours of reliable service to this emergency vehicle.

Brought a 2017 transit 250 over a month ago, alway new van was fast, but just found out I do have a eco boost. The picture threw me off, but now I see it, and I don’t see no turbo that why too. But seen they say the 3.7 don’t have low end but that where my van just fly, even up hill, but Iam still getting 20 mpg if I cruise. Van can easily leave cars in the back mirror lol

Hello thank you for great videos you do for transit.
I have a issue with my van 2018 ford transit 250 154k mileage.
I took my van many mechanic including ford. Finally find someone to fix my timing chain and other stuff as well. Code was p0012, 14, 17, 18, 21, 22 etc.
Almost all mechanic said the issue was timing chain. Base on codes and noise from engine. After fixing timing chain ( even he showed me chain plastic was little melted) then engine light all gone. Also he replaced spark plugs and ignition coils, all vvt, crankshaft sensor, water pomp, all belts.
Then in 50 mil engine light came back unfortunately. Now codes are similar.
Today I took another mechanic he said if the mechanic put timing chain correctly then it could be because of oil that I put 5w20 that the engine oil. He said having high mileage like mine 154k I should put thicker oil like 5w30. He said he uses for semi truck Lucas oil. He recommended me to use little bit of that.
Van runs good no issue that I feel but engine shakes and engine light is on.
I don’t know what else to fix it.
Please let me know what you think.

I wouldn't listen to a mechanic that says put thicker oil in these engines. So much in these depends on proper oil and pressure

FWIW, my engine (3.5 Ecoboost in a '15 transit with 150k miles) have been having timing-related issues for the last 50k. First time replacing the VVT solenoid's fixed it, but now it's back and they said it's most likely either the cam phasers or the timing chain. According to my mechanic, my main problem was I ran OEM recommended oil through it instead of a high quality full synthetic. Did that for the first 90k miles (facepalm!) and have been paying for it. Also had to replace both manifolds due to leaking due to rusty broken bolts due to water leaking underhood.

How did the back of the intake valves look with respect to carbon build up?
220k ambulance miles and all the idle time, the engine did pretty good.

They weren't bad I've definitely seen worse this vehicle did quite a bit of highway so that helps clear that out

Well, looks much easier over pulling a 6.0l out of an Econoline Ambulance. Or a v-10 out.

There is a part that is attached to one of the right side camshafts, what is the name of that part? It has a vent pipe similar to a PCV valve

What was the labor time for the engine job?

Is there anything structural above the bottom crash bar (bumper) to withstand an impact with an animal like a deer or an impact with a higher bumper? The Econoline and Express has metal that goes all the way around the top from fender to fender. What if this van ran into the back of a school bus at 20-30 mph!?! Does the engine serve as an upper crash bar? Lol

Is it possible to remove engine and transmission through the front instead of down? (Cause home mechanics don’t have expensive lifts)

i cant be sure but its possible you would have to look up the part number for the two and and see if its different

It's a raucous good time to drive when it's working, though! I have had tons of issues with mine, but have another one order b/c once you've driven a van with 410lb ft of torque you can't go back to 260!
