I’m glad you waited for this time of the year to show your trip in September. I miss the open water. With no ice on it.This gets the juice flowing for this coming year. I love the flint and steel. It’s nice to take our time and enjoy the wilderness even when we’re making our fires. Great video. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the nice comments! I didn't find time to get this series of videos together until now, you are right it is pretty nice looking at it again after so many months of frozen water. My flint and steel skills aren't the best but I'm getting better and might bring it along again to the BWCA. Also, I need more bowdrill practice and want to get that tuned up, might have to try that there too. Thanks for watching Marine, I really appreciate it.

Glad you were able to capture the fog that morning. The otters too. Congrats on the Flint & Steel fire. Not quite as relaxing as our trip was but definitely laid back. Wonder what was up with that other site. Looking forward to part 3.

If I wasn't so lazy on that morning I would have been up early and been out paddling in that fog. It would have been pretty incredible and about as peaceful as it gets. Next time ; )
Thanks on the fire making demo, it was fun and I'm always trying to learn. That other campsite was just strange because the canoe was tucked off in the trees and the garbage bag full of food looked pretty fresh, was laying right on the ground by the fire grate and nothing had eaten into it. Food was mostly pouches of meats, jars of nuts and some candy. Those guys who stayed there were laughing about the whole thing while blasting a radio and trying to out do each other with loud swearing. They calmed down after midnight and were quieter the next day.
Thanks for watching, part 3 coming soon!

@@MNmostly Well, you weren't as lazy as I was. I almost missed the fog altogether! Something about late night and early morning the day before. I always find the fog is gone before I'm packed up and ready to head out -- of course, taking time out to photograph/film the fog doesn't help. Still, it was a gorgeous morning... and day. Hate when I get noisy neighbors. Something we didn't have to contend with on Slim. Only problem there was hearing road noise and logging trucks on the calm mornings. Today was the perfect day to watch your video. Swirling snow all day long. Great to be inside looking out.

@@nibimocs Funny how those mornings get away from a guy. I was just thinking how fun it would be to be in the BWCA until I saw the weather forecast for the next week. Wind, snow, wind, cold, colder... glad I'm in the house actually.

@@MNmostly For sure, it wouldn't be all that fun to be out there at the moment -- unless you're a hard core gluten for punishment. If ever there was a good year to miss a winter trip, this would be the one.

Very nice! It's a bit disappointing that some folks going out are not respectful. Very strange about that camp. Thanks, I enjoyed your video.

Hello, haven't heard from you in a while. Glad you like the video, hope you got to see the rest in the series. Part 4 is in the works, hopefully done by the end of the week (assuming the blizzard we are having where I live will be over soon).

@@MNmostly The last year has been very busy. Have a lot of videos to catch up on. Just finished part 3. Waiting on news of our youngest son's emergency surgery on his hand. Thanks, your videos are very calming.

Hoping the surgery goes well. Makes me happy to know the videos are helping you be calm. Take care!

Another great video, Bryan! Quick question, got any tips or ideas for dealing with ticks?

    • @MNmostly
      @MNmostly  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hello and thanks! Ticks can be blocked by permethrin, there are even lines of clothing that are treated with it and good for many washings or you can spray it on normal clothes ahead of time. In the spring when ticks are bad I try to strip down and check myself daily, very important. Long pants are also very helpful, generally I never wear shorts up there (stepped on too many bees nests with bare legs) and it seems to slow the ticks down enough so can see them before they get to skin. Best of luck to you!

Another wonderful trip report. Thanks for sharing. BTW Shug is starting to do some canoeing in the BWCA rather than his normal hiking there. He has been watching a variety of other canoe trippers reports from Canada and I suggested he might want to check your channel out.

Hello, thanks for sending the recommendation! Its the best form of compliment, I appreciate it. Glad you liked this episode, I'm almost done with the next one. As always thanks for watching and commenting!

Another great video! Gets me excited for my trips coming up. Hiking the Angleworm trail in May (have watched your videos on that one multiple times now) and a 7 day trip out of Snowbank in Aug. I am always impressed with your canoe, I have been kicking around building one for a bit. I assume you built yours? If so, what kind of plans did you use? That sliding seat to balance different loads is an excellent addition!

Thanks Anthony! I hope you have fun on your trips coming up. Yes, I did built the canoe, the plans came from NW Canoe in St. Paul and it's the Passage model. Building one takes quite a bit of time, but anyone can do it if they learn how to make decent joints between pieces of wood. Best of luck if you decide to give it a try.
