I would be worried about water. Many times if it rains hard hollows like that can turn into creeks and rain coming down the sides can wash things down into the new creek. I guess what I am saying is that you choice of location if this was a true survival shelter isn't the best choice. In fact you built it in a dangerous spot.
I live in the mountains. I have seen people killed by being in that very sort of terrain. Flash flooding happens in that terrain quickly and sometimes the storm is miles away.

The proof of what I am saying are those trees that are all laid down in the same direction on the slope near by.
Your dog should not be working so hard up and down hills. His or her hips can't handle it at his or her age. !!!!!
