One more thing on the Highline/Roan backpacks: the brick red EPLX400 fabric shown in this video is a limited time offering. We bought a small roll of it and once we run out, that will be it! Get it while you can!
Great video Dylan. I still want to review your pack someday. Excellent gear choices. The highline trail has been my favorite trail of all times that I have hiked. Well done! Crow
Great video! I have a very similar kit. I was eyeing the TT Aeon Li but the packed size deferred me to the Protrail Li. I also really wanted the BA zoom, but it's unfortunate that it sleeps cold, i think I'll stick with my exped for now, but id prefer a rectangular pad.
Great video! I’d recommend a 90gsm alpha - very warm while active. If you prefer octa fabric … check Farpointe Outdoor - everything I’ve got from them has been fantastic. I’ve got a Senchi 120gsm but I’m not a big fan of the elastic around the hem but it is a bit more snag resistant than my Farpointe 90 but I’ve found the 120 to be too warm to hike in if it’s above 30deg. Curious about your packs … how much capacity does that front pocket have? Is it large enough to fit an Ultamid 4 with full inner (it fits in my Mariposa front pocket) but I love that your packs have the dual upper pockets!
My wife has a fleece from Farpoint and it’s awesome. She loves it and wears it everyday in addition to on trail. It’s hard to measure the front pocket volume. It’s about 10x15” with an extra 2” of pleated fabric, and additionally can stretch and expand a little bit further. The Mariposa uses a standard elastic material that tends to stretch further than the ultrastretch we use (it trades stretch for durability) so it’s tough to say what you can fit but thinner items tend to work best.
Great video! The only thing I bring instead of the Zero Pump by Flextail (which weighs like 50 grams with battery) is the Pad-Pal Air Pump by Rex Creations, its only 9 grams including adapter weight, so real 9 grams. I bring a battery pack anyway, and so its better to use it than to bring a dedicated pump battery.
Haha yeah same withe the brs. I love it and used it for many years, then i bought a amicus for a backpacking trip in scotland with my wife. It's way more safe to put a bigger pot on it and better against wind and i actually loved it. After that trip the amicus went in my bag more often the not. The only thing that bothers me a bit is its bigger size when packed compared to my BRS. It packs just bearly in my 550ml toaks for solo trips and with a small gas can and the amicus does not. Maybe the answers is to get the 750 or 650ml toaks... but than weight starts to add up. So at the moment i take the amicus on bad weather trips to cook safely in my tent and the brs on good wether trips.
You’re absolutely right! My brs stove fits in the pot with the fuel and the amicus does not. That’s the only thing that I don’t like about it. Planning on taking the amicus for high elevation trips and brs stove for other trips with less demanding conditions.
It the brown/tan color way with the baby blue soles. Can find them around if you add tan to your google search, although sizing options are a little sparse.
I thought the zoomUL would be more comfortable than the rapide because it looks like it has more of a quilted pattern. Why do you think it's not as comfortable? Don't trade in your older rapide for the 2024 version. The older primaloft version is said to be warmer, even though the R value is lower. I've slept on mine for well over 150 nights because I put it on my bed. My dogs walked on it, one dug on it during a storm, and my 240+lb friend stepped on it in the middle of the night, launching me into the air. I thought for sure that was going to ruin it, but it's still going strong. I've taken it to 20F on snow, but it's not quite warm enough for that.
A few reasons the Rapide is slightly more comfortable -Material is softer -Thicker by an inch -Quilting/baffling seems more supportive (feels a little less “balloon” like) -Much quieter by not using the reflective style insulation Overall love my Rapide and have no desire to swap it for anything else. I’ll likely use the zoom for the ultralight/ultra fast trips and use the Rapide for nearly everything else.
@pilgrimultralight Only by me as far as I know. But, the reason air mattresses are not great compared to their loft is because air moves inside. If the foam is on the bottom it will cool due to extreme conduction and then cool the air in the inflatable so it moves. Keep the air that doesn't move, hence higher R value per inch ,in the foam pad against you. The air mattresses prevents conduction the best and foam prevents convection better. The combo is unbeatable unless upside down.
@pilgrimultralight I use a 90 wt and while it does seem like it would catch easily, definitely doesn't seem like if would fall apart. Would fix the warmth issue too.
Yes, I wish they were more durable but unfortunately, I just can’t seem to find a better alternative for me personally. Lots of people seem to be preferring the Topos these days.
@@pilgrimultralight The X-Dome 1+ packs down quite small for the tent body. We had someone fit it in a 3L sack, although 4L is more comfortable. The poles are long (18") so they can be packed separately (e.g. on the side of the pack) if you want to pack horizontal, but also we are working in a shorter/bikepacking version of the poleset that should be ready in the spring and will also pack horizontal.

Nice work! Glad to see the Roan going strong. :)
Nice break down video. I need to finish mine haha. Also super excited to have my Pilgrim Pack haha! Counting down the weeks!!!
Great video! Your backpacks look amazing. Also you look identical Silco from Arcane Legends without the messed up eye and scars.

Hey Crow, we’re starting to catch up on production and may be able to set you up with a review unit early next year. Let’s make it happen!
@ - Awesome. No rush. But, I love that packs. Great stuff! Happy Thanksgiving. 🙏

I want to try the Nemo tensor all season. It seems like it might also be a contender.
Love my new pack!

are the shoes waterproof or how do you handle rain on trails?
Not waterproof. I’ve never found ‘waterproof shoes’ to actually work. I much prefer breathable shoes that dry out quickly when getting wet.

What's the color of the Timp 5's?
Can’t remember what it’s called and can’t find it on their website any longer

Love the new version of the pack. I have one of the original designs.

@@pilgrimultralight Thanks for the responses! I really appreciate them.
The foam pad should go on top of the inflatable pad closer to the heat. It adds very little separated by all that air.
Has this been tested?

Good luck with your channel !
@@freeheel748I do this as well.
Great job... thanks!
Is your shirt made from alpha 60, 90, or 120?
I believe it’s 60! Very lightweight. Perhaps my concerns with the alpha direct wouldn’t be a problem with one of the higher weight options
@pilgrimultralight I use a 90 wt and while it does seem like it would catch easily, definitely doesn't seem like if would fall apart. Would fix the warmth issue too.
The Aeon Li is a beast! Mine has ≈ 3000 miles on it, still works great!
Love the altras, if they would only made them to last a complete year of use would be amazing

Nice picks.
Thanks! I’m considering an X Dome for next season. How’s the packed volume of it? Small enough to fit horizontally in a backpack?
