When I first heard about this game being remade I immediately thought of you. I know this is your favorite series and DQ3 is your second favorite so I can only imagine how you felt playing it. I would have loved to have seen your reaction when you first started playing it. I love DQ too but my favorite is Trails, Xenogears and Xeno series, and FF but I still love DQ. Despite that I still felt the overwhelming nostalgia when I started DQ3 so I can only imagine how you feel and can’t stop thinking about how happy you have to be seeing one of your favorites remade with this much love and care. I know they’re going to do the same with DQ 1 and 2 but if they don’t remake the whole series up to 7 like this then I hope they at least do our favorite as well as Yuji Hori’s favorite(sorry if I misspelled it) DQ5. Love your content, brother. Keep being you
It's thanks to Dragon Quest that I always obsessively always go around constantly mashing the confirm button in towns and dungeons at literally EVERY single pot, cabinet, etc. XD
Genuinely appreciate this tips video and the shorts too! I’m so happy to finally be playing this remake. Dragon quest releases really do feel like an extra Christmas for the gaming community (or maybe that’s just me, playing DQIII this holiday season and Monsters during last year’s!)
I cannot emphasize enough that you need to explore every little bit of the overworld, not only are there great little treasure troves to be found everywhere, but there are also the special locations where you can find treasure, tips from npc's, and also a fair few friendly monsters to recruit.
Brud, Luck does a lot more than that. It affects crit %, damage range (both incoming and output), and how likely you are to get hit with a status effect. Also, you can use the seed distribution during ally creation to get the personality you want. There's still a pool, so it's not guaranteed, but you can back out and try again as much as you want. That's how my party is 4/4 Vamps. Boomerangs and whips not only CAN crit, but they can (rarely) crit multiple monsters in one attack. If you want a decent beginner's tip, if you have a monster wrangler in your party, you never have to worry about using padfoot or musk to approach a monster - they will always just join when you approach. MW is also has a handy skill to let you know if there's a monster in the general area, if it's on the same screen as you, and whether or not you need to change to a different time of day to find them.
I’m so happy to play this game for the first time. I love the hd2d art style. I played dragon quest 9 for the first time earlier this year and it was awesome. Happy they are making 1 and 2 hd2d as well.
If you're playing Draconian Quest (Hard) if you keep your gear updated and grind a little you'll be fine. I was around a party level of 12 when fighting the first boss with up to date gear and had zero issues. Also conserve MP when possible. Dungeons are pretty long and only occasionally have a healing spot. Seeds can occasionally drop from enemies, I've had it happen a couple of times. Don't neglect the mini medal rewards. They typically provide some of the best gear relative to how many mini medals you are able to collect at that point. Lastly don't neglect buffs and debuffs, especially sap, be mindful that they can stack.
Robin hood killed the hell out of me my first go. I didnt have up to date gear though. I was similar level wise. In the rematch i beat him with no one dying but it was close. The difficulty for sure sure picked up at skyfall tower. It had been pretty tame before that on draconian.
David spent NO time making this video. I've been having a ball playing this. Seeing everything updated from playing it mostly on GBC, it's really great.
there is a handy heal all that fully heals all your party members. all the personalities are described in the misc. section. the travelers tips are great
dude - not gonna lie i was a little overwhelmed in my first couple hours but this video has made my experience more enjoyable since i searched youtube. thanks!
If you're unsure about a personality, look at the Traveler's Tips section, it lists all of the personalities in alphabetical order. Accessories only change your personality if they're equipped in the MAIN accessory slot, but not the sub slot - the exception for this is CURSED accessories, which will change your personality AND make you unable to take them off until you get them removed at a Church.
Saving conversations is a great feature. I just wish the Monster list had their strengths and weaknesses recorded after I hit them with one. I don't have a good memory.
A monster hunter class is fantastic to take in the pyramid as you cannot use magic inside the MH class gains a skill where they can heal without the use of magic. Mp pounts are consumed however.
Nice video! Though I was shocked by one thing, the boomerang (and maybe even the thorn whip, not sure on that one) appears to be able to do critical hits. I have Ultra Fast battle speed, though, and it goes by so fast that I kind of miss it, and I haven't played much of the game yet. It certainly makes these weapons look real strong! My party is Hero, Monster Wrangler, Pilgrim, and Wizard. (Yeah, I'm using the old names! :) ) I'm at Romaly. Like you in one of your playthroughs I will likely change the Pilgrim into a Fighter later. I could be wrong but it feels like the Pilgrim and Wizard get a lot more MP early on. Also level-up's fully heal the person, which I'm 99% sure didn't happen in the older versions of the game. Have definitely enjoyed the game so far. I really like how they've added new treasures to find, that is something I noticed early on, too. I have the Switch version, and being a PC gamer I don't like the 30 FPS and FPS drops as I'm spoiled. The portability is really fun, though. I ride on my exercise bike for an hour or more while playing this game on the Switch. I also don't like the Appearance A/B choice, and also the English localization focusing on alliterations to sound witty is just...ugh. I miss the Imperial Scrolls of Honor days. Otherwise, I've loved the experience, the visuals, the music, and the good ole' fashioned gameplay from my childhood. Kill the monsters, get the dopamine hits from seeing those numbers and levels go up, and looking for the best personality books/items. I've played the NES version, the GBC version, and the SNES version before, though I definitely haven't done as many playthroughs as you, that's for darn sure! I am doing Draconian Quest difficulty, and I think it's good to do that mode because while you get greatly reduced rewards from killing monsters, the extra items you find on the world map and in other places balances it out, and it makes these items more valuable. It feels a bit more like the No Shop run so far, making equipment you find out in the field more valuable, and you gotta choose more carefully what you buy in the store. (Did the No Shop run once; like choosing the Wretch class in Elden Ring, and fully depending on items you discover in the world.) I'm gushing, but I love Dragon Warrior III. Er, I mean, Dragon Quest III. It spurred my imagination as a kid, and made me someone much more into fantasy and RPG's throughout my life! :)
Oddly enough, the best weapon I've been using thus far is the Dragontail Whip that I've put on the female hero. It literally shreds monsters like ice. But, the Monster Wrangler really puts ut up there with the whips. Also another tip, recruiting monsters in early game while exploring with the Monster Wrangler will make searching a little bit easier. It's all I've been doing since yesterday.
Planned on spending the weekend playing but the house I inherited is getting a massive property cleanup and prepped for sale. Only been able to play about 2 hours so far. Going to play through the first time with the traditional character setup and then go wild on the party for the second playthrough. The advantage of Steam Deck is I can play anywhere, now I just need time. Want to come cut down 35 trees for me and figure out how to get a car removed that is cut in half and mostly buried in a field David? Let's put those muscles to work. You can lift half a 1962 Oldsmobile, right? 🤣
This remake is beyond amazing, I’ve been playing this game since the original and this is nigh perfect, my single complaint is they took out Pachizi, I know it’s minor but I actually liked it. But all the items form it are elsewhere now. I will also say the game is easier but that’s probably just me being so seasoned at it
This was very helpful. I’ve always wanted to dive into the Dragon Quest series . Kinda wanted to do it blind, like others would have back in the day. But, a few tips don’t hurt, right? Lol thanks! 💜
I’ve been overwhelmed with tactics such as personalities, seeds, weapons, etc, that I’m just gonna play normally and I can grind seeds in the endgame for max stats.
If on the Dracky/Can't die mode you won't really NEED either of the mages it will just make it HARDER to KILL the Metal slimes UNTIL LV 45 to lv 48 ONLY JOB class change then only Thief lv 33 and Merchant lv 36 are needed for those 2. the rest lv 45 to lv 48 Gadabout lv 45 BEFORE making it a Sage but the class still starts to become worthless as soon as it hits lv 20. Because of that NEVER do a 3x Gadabout run until lv 45 even on the can't DIE dracky mode.
My question is, as someone who's played but never completed ports of DQIII, is this remake enough of a new experience to justify buying it again? I do intend to finish a playthrough this time
Using holy water lower the random spawn encounters of lower level enemies. This is useful if you just want to have less encounters with monster lower level then you. You still encounter monsters closer or higher levels than you though.
I'm still early in the game and some things are not being explained very well in the game. Took me a while to grasp what's going on at the party recruitment place. Still don't know what's going to happen exactly if I drop off a member or if there's other places like that in other towns that offer a different stock of members. It's not clear whether I can battle in the Colosseum without a Wrangler (I dont have one). I used a Musk but a monster still ran away. I used a book thinking it did something else, didnt know it changed my personality till I had already saved. I'm going to follow your advice to not worry about it. Having to go three menus in to read 13 pages of what the personalities do and shift 3 menus back to look at your full stats when considering a change is kind of a drag. I wish they just had symbols indicating their effects. I'm also wondering if you're still describing how the stats work in the old games. In the description it says that Agility just affects your turn while Luck affects like how good of a hit you get including crits. The way I understand it, Attack level gives you a floor and a ceiling for damage and Luck determines how high or low your blow hits. I'm not sure to be honest, and sorry for the long post.
Best tip that NOBODY is giving is... DO NOT rush to reclass your party. Yes you can at level 20. HOWEVER, seeing as the STRONGEST SPELLS do not become available till AFTER level 20, it's better to wait to change classes so you get the strongest spells for each class you use. Just sayin.
This depends entirely on what class they were and what you plan to change them into. For example, if I have a Goof-Off, I'm changing them to a Sage the second I hit level 20.
@jedirayden yes and I get that. However, when you do, you lose put on the gadabouts better abilities. I fully understand getting rid of the clown asap. But at what cost? The later abilities can make the game easier as some battles are made simple by later level spells and abilities. In the case of wanting a sage asap, better option if you wish to do sooner would be to use a priest. Get the book from the tower north of Alltrades Abby and do it that way as you will then only be missing 2 I think it is, spells.
I'm curious on the Merchant's dig skill. I've seen some places say it only works 5 times in an area, but what defines an area? That and does it mean 5 attempts, or 5 results? I've dug in the overworld map and have gotten some coins on the 6-7th try.
@@veghesther3204 in the previous game dig gives you what the monsters in that area drop. I got 4 mad caps and 4 shoes of happiness in 15 mins. its one of the most broken skills in the game
I feel like i screwed up and put to many luck seeds into my characters at Patty's. For some reason i thought luck had more to do with getting critical hits. Oh well, at least this game just hands out seeds like candy on Halloween.
I got fairly lucky and did manage to get Vamp on a second character when I was building my party (I had a Personality list so I could retry if I got something for my teammates that actively worked against them like a -Wisdom Personality on my Mage).
I have a thief that i was to switch to MW....but i want to wait until mid level 40 so i get all the thief abilities...but if i do that, will i get all the MW abilities automatically? or do i have to catch another 50 monster to get the abilities....and if there isnt 50 monster left, does that mean that the new MW would be worthless?
@ You gotta level them a bit. They will learn “nose for treasure” and “snoop”. Nose for treasure will let you know how many more items you have left to discover wherever you are, be it treasure chests, pots, barrels or hidden items. Then, “snoop”will make items that are near you sparkle on screen and on minimap, but you have to be close so you’ll have to use it a few times in big areas. Keep in mind that every room is independent of every area, which means that even if you use “nose for treasure”in a town and you’re told there’s no more treasure, you could enter a home and use it again to find out there’s some treasure in that floor of the house, and then do the same in the second floor and so on.
I'm loving the game but clicking through the text boxes on level up and the delays between them is killing me for a remake in 2024. As always, appreciate your video.

XD
No need to mash anymore as a prompt pops up when you're near.
@@arturboy777 I know! That was one of my favorite features in the Pixel Remasters!
Genuinely appreciate this tips video and the shorts too! I’m so happy to finally be playing this remake. Dragon quest releases really do feel like an extra Christmas for the gaming community (or maybe that’s just me, playing DQIII this holiday season and Monsters during last year’s!)
Glad I could help!
I cannot emphasize enough that you need to explore every little bit of the overworld, not only are there great little treasure troves to be found everywhere, but there are also the special locations where you can find treasure, tips from npc's, and also a fair few friendly monsters to recruit.
I wish they added a few more QoL features. I'm getting flashbacks to SMT Nocturne with how frequent the random encounters are
Brud, Luck does a lot more than that.
@@BigDaddyCola I've found that keeping your gear is pretty essential. Only times I've struggled is when my gear was out of date.
@6zdog actually turns out i was level 10 without updated gear. Everything has been too pricey unless I grind like crazy
Unless the in-game description is wrong, luck increases physical damage and crit chance in addition to helping prevent status ailments.
David spent NO time making this video.
I've been having a ball playing this. Seeing everything updated from playing it mostly on GBC, it's really great.
there is a handy heal all that fully heals all your party members. all the personalities are described in the misc. section. the travelers tips are great
dude - not gonna lie i was a little overwhelmed in my first couple hours but this video has made my experience more enjoyable since i searched youtube. thanks!
Glad to hear it!
Thanks for explaining the personality thing! That totally flew over my head as a kid, playing it on GBC.
Also, I think you can check it now, in one of the tabs...
This remake is amazings, thanks for the tips!
Happy to help!
Love your videos!!! One correction though: you said whips can't inflict critical hits. But mine has several times.
Good to know!
Aggressively takes notes
Saving conversations is a great feature. I just wish the Monster list had their strengths and weaknesses recorded after I hit them with one. I don't have a good memory.
Best Remakes last 10 years i think so. Residence Evil 2, Resident Evil 4, Silent Hill, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D, Final Fantasy VII Remake.
(Did the No Shop run once; like choosing the Wretch class in Elden Ring, and fully depending on items you discover in the world.)
I'm gushing, but I love Dragon Warrior III. Er, I mean, Dragon Quest III. It spurred my imagination as a kid, and made me someone much more into fantasy and RPG's throughout my life! :)
Hi David! So looking forward to playing this game. Thanks for all the tips. Have a blessed day!
You too!
That’s the best tank top I’ve seen all month
This remake is beyond amazing, I’ve been playing this game since the original and this is nigh perfect, my single complaint is they took out Pachizi, I know it’s minor but I actually liked it. But all the items form it are elsewhere now. I will also say the game is easier but that’s probably just me being so seasoned at it
Still, people cry about the woke stuff. It doesn't matter for the game itself at least.
This was very helpful. I’ve always wanted to dive into the Dragon Quest series . Kinda wanted to do it blind, like others would have back in the day. But, a few tips don’t hurt, right? Lol thanks! 💜
Glad I could help!
David pumping out these DQ3 HD-2D Remake videos like he is pumping out those muscles.
I’ve been overwhelmed with tactics such as personalities, seeds, weapons, etc, that I’m just gonna play normally and I can grind seeds in the endgame for max stats.
If you swap a wizard to sage after learning oomph you basicly have the game on lock down
Nicely done! 👏👏👏 I'll be keeping this video on standby for when my series X copy of the game comes today.
Nice! Thanks so much!
Awesome videos could you tell me about your joycons? Are they shell swaps or 3rd party joycons?
What level should I change job classes? And does every class have a “next level” like the mage to sage?
Thanks for the video, having fun with the game so far! What affects your crit rate if it's not luck or agility?
Luck.
I don't get to play until next week. Should I start with a thief and monster master?
Sure, if that's what you want to do. But you should at least have a spell caster in your party as well like priest or mage
@veghesther3204 why would anyone ever play draky mode? 😆
@Budabuf priest would be needed. Just curious if it's more beneficial for a MM early or not.
Loving these DQ3 HD2D vids, helping us out a ton
I’d definitely level up characters quite a bit higher than level 20 before changing the vocation.
Auto battle is a good way to learn to play these games more effectively, especially if the difficulty is set to Draconian.
thank you so much for this video 🙏🏻 much appreciated tips!
Glad it was helpful!
I thought Luck affected the critical hit rate as well. If that's the case, I wouldn't call it completely useless.
This all seems pretty intense for someone completely new to the series. I was excited to fire it up now I’m a little worried 😂
Don't be worried, at it's core it's still an NES game, you'll be fine
hope you doing well david 💪
I am, thank you so much! :)
Love your videos David, it should be awesome if you could live stream now and then ! :D
It means 5 attempts in ANY location your at but it still SUCKS even in the previous games.
Oh well, at least this game just hands out seeds like candy on Halloween.
it does. he got the stats wrong.
Is that true about Luck? only status ailment? I hear it affects chance of critical hit as well, both for spells and physical
How many class changes are recommended? I only plan on 1 for each character. Is that gonna leave me weak?
I got fairly lucky and did manage to get Vamp on a second character when I was building my party (I had a Personality list so I could retry if I got something for my teammates that actively worked against them like a -Wisdom Personality on my Mage).
I have a thief that i was to switch to MW....but i want to wait until mid level 40 so i get all the thief abilities...but if i do that, will i get all the MW abilities automatically? or do i have to catch another 50 monster to get the abilities....and if there isnt 50 monster left, does that mean that the new MW would be worthless?
I love this game, I tried playing dragon dogma 2 on PC, the worst decision of my life, man
Greetz from Hessen, Germany. Keep on rockin´ !
Thanks, will do!
Just get a thief in your party and you won’t have to search everywhere. They can light up the areas of hidden treasure for you
Hello
I have a thief in my party.
How does this work ? Is it automatic?
David, what's the best starting party besides the vanilla Warrior, Mage, Priest?
I’m going to make 2 videos this week going over job classes and party composition :)
@ NICE!! 😊
Can't wait for my pre-order from VGP to arrive! Hopefully it won't be more than another week or two (Canada to UK takes ages sometimes)
I've had only one GO, mostly because they threw in a boss fight that wasn't there before
Boomerang is my favorite weapon in DQ 11. I cant wait to try it on DQ3HD2d.
I'm loving the game but clicking through the text boxes on level up and the delays between them is killing me for a remake in 2024. As always, appreciate your video.
With this being my first Dragon Quest game ever lol I am enjoying it but I am getting destroyed. I think I should restart it but I am already at the Pyramid.
Love your vids Dave!
I feel like I've explored every corner enough to get items, but holy sh*t, where are all the mini medals!? I'm already finished and only got 32 mini medals 😢😢
Bro what is your fitness routine?
I’ve been trying to work around an Injury for weight loss and it’s been rough.
AAAHHH! Where did you get that shirt from? I love it!!! 🥰
Crazy because in dragon quest xi I search the hell out of everything lol
I literally just started playing and this video popped up. I have Switch in hand
Awesome shirt, David!
technically speaking, the thumbnail is misleading, >that< female warrior is from dragon quest 3 original, and the tips are for remake.
but what do i know about woman.
what even is a woman...?
Is there a balloon in this game? I saw areas I can't get to unless I fly.
No balloon, but you do get flight later on
Flying is late game if you don't mind spoilers once you fight Baramos the boss you KILL before going to the Dark/Demon World you fly then since Baramos' castle is ONLY accessible by flying their then it will appear on your Zoom/Return magic spell list.
Dragon Warrior/Quest III time with David
Thank you David
Got it!!! But I don't wanna start it till my day off 😂😂😂😂
Q: does anyone know what's up or how to get the book edition of this game!? I'm gonna Fo'Sho get the 1&2 and they would look PeePee in the book!!!
Can anyone do a seed distribution guide for Amazon (tough) warrior, lewd/sexy for mage to every other classes? That way there's no need for personality changing books or accessories.
When will you do play through or walkthroughs?
Love dq3 but this versions balance is broken how is it that my mage has around 30 more defense than the hero or my warrior.
The turn based starts to drag after a couple of hours.
The hard difficulty is too easy so far. Haven't had a game over yet, and I just coast on auto tactics. About 12 hours in, and Im sure Baramos will be a nice spike, but I wish it was more challenging
Thanks a lot for your guide!
Glad it was helpful!
