    Dragon Quest I-III was the first RPG game I got for the Switch when I finally got one last year. I loved all 3 games but III was my favorite so I am hyped as heck for this remake. Because I admittedly love level grinding I am going to class change my 3 other party members twice just so that I can have the best of all 9 classes with my party! I looked at the skill guides, and i have to hit level 38 before each class change so I better order this from PlayAsia on Black Friday so that I can get started.

    Something I always loved about the game, right from the original was the ability to experiment with these different class combos. Of course back then we didn't have the net to make things easy, so we had to do some math to figure out some of the better choices.
    DQ3 is my fav because it introduced this kind of thing and made the game so versatile! That and the similarity to the real world map + the lore of it all.
    This game is AAA+++ :D
    Have fun everyone!

    I started with Warrior, Mage, Priest. Then changed to Martial Artist, Gadabout and Sage. I farmed metal slimes in the Tower of Transcendence until Gadabout was lvl 20. Made Gadabout a Sage and he is quite strong. Lots of willpower and mana. My priest that I made a sage is a bit more durable but the one I changed from mage to gadabout to sage might have more stats from 2 class changes. I'm happy with it so far. My more durable sage heals most of the time and the other is all about damage.

  • @thecedex
    @thecedex วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    I went with
    LV 20 Thief -> Sage so I have a pretty speedy caster
    LV 37 Priest -> Warrior for the tanky healer. Since the Warrior is the slowest character, they can be used for healing, reviving, debuffs in the final turn. So it's like a safety after a boss does huge damage after the Sage + Martial Artist does their initial casting.
    My priest reached LV 37 before getting the final Orb (with some grinding )
    LV 30ish Mage -> LV 37 Priest -> Martial Artist - speedy caster (w/o the best Mage spells but can still doe midrange AOE damange if required but can heal and buff, and debuff quickly).
    At this point the Martial Artist class change already happened right before jumping to the 2nd world.
    I waited LV 37 priest since that's when they learn Kazing

  • @Rikarikun
    @Rikarikun 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    a creative use of three party members that I read about a long time ago that would theoretically still work for this game would be to start your party out as something like Warrior/Mage/Priest and then change your warrior into a mage and your mage into a warrior, specifically to give them both the stats they would be missing since Sage is kind of a hassle to get (you'd also do a lap through gadabout with your priest once you were established enough to get away with it, usually via metal slime abuse), BUT with the new revisions to the game, you could probably also do something like (Mage and/or Priest)>Warrior/Merchant>Monster Master/Gadabout>Merchant>Gadabout>Sage. The reasoning for the complicated thing with party member #3 is that you'd start as Gadabout with party member 3 and then go through merchant before going back to gadabout, specifically for the Sexy/Vamp personality on a sage. Party member 1 is either a tanky healer or a tanky caster, but if you felt like it, you could do both before going into warrior since you're going to be running the gauntlet with Gadabout anyway, there isn't much logic behind it it's basically there because you need a meaty boi in the end game and having the ability to do support the party in some way besides mashing the attack command is always nice.

    Now we need a video which explains what skills/spells are learned - and at what level they're learned - for every vocation. Also heard somewhere that Gadabout gets access to Hustle Dance, but need verification on that lol
    Btw, I am going to be doing an Outside the Box thought process for my current playthrough's party, since I'm doing a thematic setup.
    Theme: Dragon Quest XI - Erdwin's party
    Final plans will be the following:
    Erdwin - Hero (Current Class: Duh~) Personality: Paragon (Because fitting)
    Serenica - Sage (Current Class: Mage) Personality: Vamp (because it's just too good for a female)
    Morcant - Mage (Current Class: Monster Wrangler) Personality: Genius (because fitting, except for when he [REDACTED FOR SPOILERS] in DQXI)
    Drustan - Warrior (Current class: Merchant) Personality: Lucky Devil (since fitting in its own way)
    I'm a ways away from getting to Alltrades Abbey (Current goal is to fight Robin 'ood for the first time), but I look forward to seeing how things manage from there. I wanna get Drustan a lot of skills, same for Morcant and Serenica. If Gadabouts can learn Hustle Dance, I will suffer through it for Serenica, Drustan, and Morcant (albeit at different times) solely for that skill. Morcant and Serenica will eventually be saved for Lv 45 Gadabouts, though, for magic damage improvement. Also will be leveling Morcant as a Sage until he learns all spells, but will eventually change him to Mage for thematic reasons.

    The route im taking is Monster Wrangler, Mage, and Priest. Gunna turn my mage into priest and my priest into a sage. I got my preferred personalities for them so once class change happens, thats when I'll drop my stat seeds. (Sage can equip a ton of decent end game items, and a decent mage turned into a priest makes for a nice spell slinger) but that's just me.

    I changed classes multiple times and ended up with a monster wrangler, thief, and merchant at the end. All acting twice, all with all mage/priest spells, having wrangler find skill, thief steal and merchant money plus all using boomerangs. Nothing lasts more than one round with this set up and you get phat loots!

  • @ahmedfalahy9337
    @ahmedfalahy9337 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +8

    A recommendation is to *stick to a class and learn everything from it before changing*
    Yes, some skills take a long time to learn but they can be a game changer
    Priests learn *Kazing* as the last spell, guaranteed revive at full health
    Mages learn *Morph* which lets the user mimic another party member in terms of stats, skills and equipment
    And Thieves learn *Backdraft* which repels one breath attack for one turn
    And much more, up to you to get all abilities for the achievement trophy (for non-Switch users 😅)

    • @acwano
      @acwano  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      If youre planning to make your priest into a sage, you dont need to wait so many levels for kazing since sage learns it too at some point.
      But overall, I agree with your advice!

      Backdraft can be cool when it catches a breath attack but it only works for a turn at a time and you can’t always know when an enemy is gonna do a breath attack.
      I’d say it’s not a must have skill aside from the achievement for filling the spells and ability list even as someone who had a Male Thief learn everything before becoming a Warrior til I beat Baramos and then changed him to a Martial Artist after getting Metal Slash.

  • @Gamerdude535
    @Gamerdude535 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    Aside from the utility abilities and the Snoop spell I’d say a Thief should at least go for Hypnowhip before class changing. Especially if going for Warrior or Martial Artist.
    It’s a solid group hitting attack that can inflict confusion!
    It’s one of the faster classes to finish getting skills too if you want to take it all the way.
    Persecutter is a situationally great attack if you can inflict sleep or confusion on a boss but it’s not entirely necessary.
    But I pulled it off a couple times on bosses with a Warrior that learned all the Thief skills and it was fun lol. Iirc the second time I did like 5000 something damage with it with an Oomph effect.
    Backdraft can be nice sometimes but it only lasts a turn and you can’t always know when an enemy is gonna use a breath attack. But when it does work it’s kinda cool. Not a must have by any means.
    Assassin’s Stab is kinda neat too if you gonna do single target damage in a regular fight.
    But it is a little redundant if going Warrior since Warriors learn Pressure Pointer which pretty much does the same thing.

I’ve kept my team rather standard as it’s my first playthrough, but I’m already craving a second playthrough with wackier choices. Or at the very least, I think I could enjoy trying my best to snag every skill on one character over time.

I base my party around sustainability and flexibility over trying to brute force my way through, with this party setup I can have a fully party of decent healers, coupled with stat boosting spells, heavy hitting melee fighters, and everyone having access to elemental damage. All stat boost spells are situational, start with acceleration, then if the enemy makeup is melee users buff defense, if they are magic users, double acceleration and magic barrier, if it's a mix, acceleration, magic barrier, and defense buff then go in for the kill, and since the introduction of abilities, if I need to my sage has the ability to call an inn keeper, save priest, or merchant if I need restock or heal and save.

The question is, how do you want to transition to that end character? sure there's the uncomplicated way of having two Monster Wranglers and just switching them once you get Wild Side, but is that really the most efficient way numbers wise? The funny thing is in reality as long as you are willing to grind you can just do everything. The only thing that is ultimately true is if you want this character to be a caster.... make them a sage at the end, period. I will say if you want to make a "fast XYZ" it is better to start as a thief then transfer to the thing, then start as something else then transfer thief.
    Also Gaddabout is insanely fast to level, it takes like 1.5 hours tops to get one to 20 and that's assuming you just go to the top floor of the tower north of alltrades. Imagine if we you wait until later in the game? You can get to 20 in like sub 1 hour.

    The nice thing about Merchant -> Gadabout -> Sage is how fast the transitions are; especially if you do any sort of "gold grinding" to get the best kit once you land in "Europe". Merchant and Gadabout both gain levels blindingly fast, so this character can be on their third class by the time slower-leveling characters like Priest or Martial Artist are ready for their first switch.
    Mage, IMO, straight up sucks. They're so fragile early (pair only with Warrior, basically) and they level so damn slowly.

    Thief->Warrior>Martial Artist makes the most sense to me. Thief->Warrior means that you will have decent base AGI to make up for how painfully slow Warrior is, which means you can level up and get all of his skills without feeling like 90% of the time the warrior is dead weight, then you can transition to Martial Artist with high Str and end game high crit rate. Also Thief gets an AoE skill relatively early and the late game skills kinda suck so you can swap soon after 25ish, and the downside of Warrior not having access to AoE is solved

      its not that worth to stay longer as thief unless you want hypnowhip at level 25, which can be useful. With all this class changing, how much of this is a good idea, simply to get a well-balanced party, and how much of it is just becoming grossly overpowered? I don't want the game to be too easy and end up being boring (as is possible in many JRPG's). Changing classes 2 ~ 3 times seems like you would make overpowered characters that would trivialize the game. Like...just pick the hero, maybe merchant -> warrior or thief, and priest -> sage, mage -> sage.

    • @Wizardcleave
      @Wizardcleave 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I'd say a decent rule of thumb would be 1 class change around the midgame, about the time you get the boat. The extra little stats are nice but you wont have to grind too much and collecting the Orbs and tackling Baramos will still be a satisfying challenge. And then *After* Baramos is dealt with and the End/Post game open up you can look to do 1-2 more Swaps to round out Skills and get closer to optimal set ups for the biggest baddest bosses
      Example: I Started Warrior, Priest, Gadabout - in the early 20s I used my first book and Went Wrangler, Sage, Sage and enjoyed my spell heavy party until Post game where I took some detours to grab skills (Beast mode for everyone, Wrangler to Merchant for their skills then MA for Crits, one Sage to Theif for the big speed and the other Sage back to Gadabout then back to Sage for the Big Magic damage

Especially since they have less gear options than other classes, they are very squishy AND take longer to exp than the other "starting class". Now mage is not useless by any means, if you want a party member to learn a lot of spells for free and quicker than sage, its a good option in the mid game. But you never wanna stay mage, and starting as mage makes you weaker than other potential comps.

The mage and priest kinda have the same choices (thief for speed, warrior to become tankier or, sage to learn a LOT of spells and insane wisdom growth) but try to make a different choice for them in the mid game. In the late game, its fine if they're both sages ngl.
      Now keep in mind that once you make someone a sage, its better for them to stay as a sage until the very late game when they've learned everything they need from the class, you cant switch out and in of sage cuz you need the item everytime and there is only 3 copies of it in the game (and 2 of them are found late in the game)
      As for your martial artist. Monster wrangler, thief or warrior are all good choices. The best being MW in my opinion, for the act twice passive. I personally would go back to martial waaay later in the game (cuz of the garanteed crit passive at lvl 47). That way, you make the ultimate DPS.

Ending as a martial artist doesnt make sense to me since STR isn't as neccesary since a properly built MA by lv 40 should be well over 600 AGI and getting crits every other attack anyway. Better to bring the high agility into the warrior as an end point since the warrior's agility is so god awful. I'd actually go Wrangler to thief to warrior, that way you get the wrangler techs, the high agility and useful assassin stab from the thief (good metal slime killer) and get the high STR boost from a bodybuilder or paragon warrior.

      thats the difference between the 2 schools of thought in DQ3. Some people like to have more diverse skills and some like to fully invest a character into 1 role. Priest needs wisdom a lot for healing and MP. By becoming a sage, their wisdom growth explodes and they can do their job a lot better, while having more offensive capabilities.
      Also, sage keeps learning spells for a long time till level 41. Anyways, sage is considered a good class change for them but some people like to mage their priest a thief or warrior in the mid game for stat growth to then become to sage.

      But if you want suggestions about that. If you wanna transition at level 47, thief or warrior would be a good choice. Thief allows you to use a lot of different weapons and makes you fast as fuck. Warrior makes you tankier. Monster wrangler is also a really good choice, if you havent already transitioned from it to get the 50 monster passive that allows you to act twice per turn.
      I hope I was able to help.

    • @acwano
      @acwano  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes absolutely, ending with a martial artist is a lot better. For 2 main reasons:
      -Martial artists are slow to lvl up, so like the sage, theyre better to grab later
      -They unlock their full potential at lvl.47 when they get the ability to crit every time.
      You could do, for example:
      MW->MA
      Thief->MW->MA
      Merchant->MW->MA
      (you could go back to MA after learning the crit passive if you want, but that requires some grinding)

And warrior into Monster wrangler until you collect 50 monsters (for the act twice skill) then transition again into a martial artist in the late game for the ultimate dps. Those are my recommendations, but remember, the most important thing is to have fun!

    My first time playing DQ3. Just started yesterday. I have Hero/Wrangler/Martial Artist/Priest. I see a lot of talk here about making Wrangler endgame choice. But it seemed like a fun class to play i wanted to start with Wrangler. Did i make a mistake?? And it's starting martial artist bad? I may want to make him a merchant next...

    • @acwano
      @acwano  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Yeah, starting Martial artist is not ideal since its a class that gets a LOT better late game. Now, its not bad tho, you can just become Monster wrangler then go back to martial artist in the late game. The MW-MA combo is one of the best in the game. You can make a monster of a dps that hits twice per turn and always crits.
      Merchant has its perks, but its mostly useful to get a good start in terms of gold and comfort. He can summon NPCs in dungeons to heal you or rez your characters. But his perks become less useful the more you advance in the game. Your Monster wrangler can become thief or warrior. And since your priest should obviously be your sage. But these are just recommendations, especially for your MW, you can do anything you want really, just think about what u already have and what you need.

    @captainbarrus290 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I'm going to defend the mage for a second here, but this is going to be content spoilers, but not story spoilers...
    In the Post-Post game. They added a new dungeon that is... Incredibly Challenging, and there's two segments where your party has to be equipped with specific weapons, or else they take 10X the damage, and deal 1/10th of damage.
    One part is Claws, and Boomerangs, and the other is Axes, and Staves. The only party composition that could handle both equally would be...
    Hero (Boomerang/Axe/Claws)
    Warrior (Axes/Claws)
    Martial Artist (Axes/Claws)
    Mage (Boomerang/Staves)
    Don't sleep on the mage They get a much higher luck growth than the sage... Meaning they're less likely to be afflicted by ailments down the line, and monsters love their status ailments this time around... So if you have a priest, and you want to swap to mage. That mage can be just as good if not slightly better than the sage. Aside from that. It's a pretty spot on video.
    Also PS: Martial Artist at level 47 learns Critical Claim. Which allows you to land guaranteed critical hits. Definitely recommend it as a Stepping stone for late game grinding on metal slimes, and liquid metal slimes.
