    If a put fish bowl outside in the sun , I will get fish soup 🍲 after 2 hours. Very hot in Arizona

    • @RyoWatanabee
      @RyoWatanabee  5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      My Uncle usually keeps them in the bowls in the shade. He just wanted to temporarily heat one of the bowls up. And the it was late spring during that video so it wasn’t too hot

    • @bettaworld5427
      @bettaworld5427 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      That's why you have to adjust the techniques to your location. In Arizona you wouldn't be able to keep fish like this outdoors even in the shade. The small water volume would heat up too quickly. Just because he can do it doesn't mean everyone else can even if following his instructions 100%. You have to adapt to your own environment.
      If you live in Alaska you don't want to try and raise fish like Thais outdoors.

      @@RyoWatanabee Hey, what are the plants in the tanks called? And is there anything beside the plants in the tanks?
      Thanks for your help btw :D

      Those are literally large containers with floating plants in them. Floating plants are very good at absorbing nutrients so the fish stay healthy.
      The plants in the video are mostly common water hyacinth, but you can also use duckweed, salvinia, frogbit, water lettuce and or aquatic mosses.

    • @TheScienceguy77
      @TheScienceguy77 5 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      I'll make a quick guide for you:
      First, look for a ceramic container (or anything made of other waterproof, non-toxic material) that is roughly 2 gallons or more. Make sure that there is either no paint on the inside or safe paint that doesn't contain heavy metals. Most commercial plant containers won't be lined with toxic chemicals because they are made for edible plants to be grown inside. Keep in mind most plastics will degrade over time.
      For substrate you can use gravel, clay balls, pebbles, or fluval stratum. I don't recommend regular (non-fertilized) soil because it will cloud the water, but it can also be used. Rinse your substrate thoroughly to clean it and prevent clouding.
      Next you must prepare the water. If you use tap water you must use water conditioner to remove the chlorine, chloramine, ammonia and other impurities. I highly recommend cutting your tap water with pure distilled water or rain water as his uncle used.
      You must let the water cycle or "mature" before you add any fish. This can take several weeks, but it is for the safety of your fish. You fill the container with water and add small amounts of fish food to break down into ammonia. Cycling your pond basically means allowing beneficial bacteria that detoxify your water from ammonia/nitrate/nitrite to buildup.
      Plants may be immediately added because they are not affected by it and will hasten the cycle. Beneficial bacteria may be acquired from filter media in a mature aquarium or, less optimally, purchased directly to speed up the cycle.
      You'll need floating plants to break the surface tension of the water allowing oxygen from the air to aerate the water. Miniature waterlily bulbs are commonly available at pet stores, but they need time to grow. KraljHD listed many common floating plants, but check your local laws regarding invasive species. Duckweed is incredibly invasive and outlawed in many areas. I don't recommend duckweed at all for an outdoor container. You'll constantly be picking it out as it overtakes the water's surface obscuring your view.
      Water hyacinth, as his uncle uses, is a great option.
      I use Ceratopteris pteridoides aka antlerfern from Hansaquatics for $0.50 and it is my personal favorite. Aquatic mosses llike Java moss or Christmas moss are common and cheap species that will grow well in most conditions and act as a medium for fish to lay eggs and for fish fry to hide inside.
      While not a true aquatic plant, philodendrons aka pothos are an extremely common, cheap houseplant that can be grown emersed in water and will serve the same function. Just wash the soil off the roots, soak the roots in conditioned water for a day or so and then submerge the roots in the water where the stem and the roots meet.
      After you allow your pond to cycle and have your plants established you may add your fish. Stick to small, egg-laying species like ricefish, killifish and white cloud minnows. Do not get livebearers such as guppies, mollies, platys and swordtails as they will quickly overpopulate such a small container unless you stock only one gender.
      An algaecide such as seachem flourish excel may be necessary to combat algae growth. Alternatively, you may look into aquatic snails such as pond snails. Many people find them unaesthetically pleasing, but they will eat the algae and leftover fish food keeping your pond clean.
      Keep in mind that direct, full sunlight will guarantee explosive algae growth so it is best to keep the containers in the shade exactly like his uncle does.
      Do weekly water changes (about 10%-25% of the total water volume) to stop the toxic buildup of nitrates. Use distilled water or rain water during your water changes to keep the water's hardness down which will engender egg-laying and reproduction.
      Hope this helps, best of luck!

    I love how japan is a really simple and natural country. You could literally live by only planting and eating whatever you plant which is so cool. Here in Dubai the weather hits 50 degrees Celsius which is 122 degrees Fahrenheit. So you can’t really plant that much. It’s basically a desert here!

    Are you not that fluent in Japanese? There is nothing wrong with that at all. You just have cool videos, that’s all. Those are some cool Japanese fish I never seen before. They look awesome. Your uncle to look really cool and a chill dude. Wow I can’t believe that he been raising those fishes for a very long time now. She sure know what he is doing with such small spaces and small containers. I am surprise that the fishes and definitely the babies say alive.

    I want to start mini outdoor ponds for my guppies. I put a test bucket out with some water lettuce and the only issue I need to solve before adding my fish is when the wind blows, lots of dirt and yard debris gets in the water. Perhaps when the water lettuce multiplies more accross the surface it will block most of it. I was thinking about using cheese cloth across the top. Any tips are more than welcome!

But after your video, everything is sorted out. I think it’s even better to put them in pots like your uncles. Really admire your uncles lifestyle and love your uncles rice fish, also love your videos for always. Thanks for sharing 😊

    • @RyoWatanabee

      Yeah, in Japan many people separate there yard shoes so that they don’t get the deck dirty. Even in the house, you’re not allowed to wear your everyday shoes. People wear slippers instead

    Lived on the coast of Texas gulf several years. We had a horse water trough our donkey refused to drink from LOL so we put some goldfish we got as parting gifts from a baby shower party. A friend gave me water lilies and we put them all in there together. They too loved it and flourished. Our bantam chickens liked drinking from it LOL they'd balance carefully on the wide edges. No filters or oxygenation devices. Just the plants and the fishes. We gave the whole thing to some friends when we had to move 🐟👍

    Very cool and relaxing video! Your uncle is a cool dude. I've wanted to raise ricefish myself for a while but they're hard to get where I live.
    Those ceramic pots are simple yet effective miniature ponds. Not only do the floating plants provide oxygen and break the water's surface tension, they also filter the water while the fish fertilize the plants with their waste.

    your uncle seems to wholesome UwU! also, i love your content, its very very satisfying and relaxing. honestly Japanese culture is very nice in my opinion and seeing fish keeping (one of my favourite things ever) and a very nice culture together is reallyyy appealing. also, how simple thins are, like not using a filter or air stone, and seeing the fish is amazing health is very satisfying. i live in india, and it is very common for people to skip some things in fish keeping. usually that leads to unhealthy fish (owner won't even realize and will wonder why the fish died), and that really frustrates me. seeing someone keeping fish with simple tasks, calming aesthetics, and amazing results is awesome! please tell your uncle that he is doing a great job, and u are doing a great job too!
