Been breeding kill is for 40+ years and you’ve done well getting so many fry. Lots of guys just selling damp peat. A big thing in the killi community is not cross breeding them, trying to keep the strains pure, as many are endangered in the wild. Really you should have kept the two types apart because when they grow the males will be very distinct as in your photos. The females, however, all look very similar, not unlike a female guppy. You’re doing the right thing with the third lot, good luck, hope you get a good hatch.
Nick, totally just spend the last couple of weeks bingeing your vids. Started out 'I live vicariously via TH-cam'. Ended with me pulling all my old fish gear out and setting a couple of tanks. Thanks for inspiring me to get back into it again.
Wow! How fascinating. I'm 58 and been keeping fish since I was 12. Its been a fascinating hobby. I have to say your videos are the most interesting I have watched. I can see you truly love the science of nature. We truly live in a wonderworld if you just open your heart and eyes. 😁👍
What a fun and interesting project! Those babies are adorable. I hope the third batch is viable and that you get some fry from that one, as well. Take care. (I enjoy your videos!)
I'm looking at getting some gold australe killis for my tank, but I haven't been able to find any adults for sale lately. This video's given me another potential option of getting some eggs and raising the fry up to adulthood. I already breed ricefosh, so It should be fairly easy to raise these guys. Thanks for posting this, hopefully I'll be able to find some eggs or adults soon!
I have six aquarium in my house keeps different type of schooling fishes, betta, flower horn and Axolot etc. wish to visit your shops in Australia when visit there. Learn a lot watching your videos. Love you too❤❤

Being german i need to say i like to listen to your way of english. I certainly applause you for your drive in breeding fish. All the luck in the world for you and your projects. By the power and effort you put into all this it can only work out right. This content is what makes YT worth it. Doing the stuff you love and showing it on YT. All the best from the upper side of the world ^^
I have really enjoyed watching your videos, you are on of the most informative and thorough TH-camrs that teach you how to properly care for fish and how to breed and overcome problems that occur. And it's nice to see when it doesn't work, the true side behind fishkeeping where not everything goes to plan. Keep up the amazing work, you have been a huge inspiration for me to keep fish myself!
it does make sense that some eggs need to dry before hatching. i have no idea if that's true but it does seem logical if that species is adapted to more extreme wet/dry swings.
Thanks for creating this video ! i always wondered about Killi's and wanted to try those mail order eggs. You really helped with that decision. Cheers !
Do you realize how many people you probably just encouraged to go by Killi fish eggs from eBay and hatch them out😂 I know you convinced me, you make everything look so easy. I'll be making that purchase here in a few minutes😂 You are great, love your videos.
I've been raising Killies for about 5 years now. My best advice? Do not buy your killifish eggs from Glasgow (The seller keeps changing his name). The fella is one of the main sellers on ebay and he has a horrible attitude and is basically selling bags of dirt. The various "eggs" I received were always freshly harvested which means you will have to wait 3 months before you can try and hatch them and too late to complain. Of course there is no reason for you to believe me but I feel better for warning you. If you can, stick to the private sellers. Out of 5 species from the Glasgow sellers (there's two of them that live in the same street) I managed to hatch ONE egg. Never had a failure from other sellers.
From a human perspective, the fish is remarkable. How they are capable of being dormant in dry soil and wait until their environment is more favourable is magnificent.
Just wanted to comment and say, I really like your videos. Can't wait to show these to my daughter. She loves all things Australia. I miss having my tank. Might have to get one again soon. LOL.
Thank you so much for all your amazing info and videos!!! I've always wondered about these Killi fish eggs online! I have wanted to try them for so long.
Another awesome video Nick! I've never kept killifish, but I've always wanted to. I'm curious if you are going to be breeding angels in your new fishroom/shop? It sounded like it might not be the most profitable fish to breed, but I'd love to see the angels bred in a space large enough to do it more successfully.
Dude I’ve never seen or heard of a kili fish before but I want a few badly now lol. Keep up the great work my dude, your videos are always entertaining and informative
This is cool where did you get the eggs from. Where I'm at in the states it's impossible to find these. It used to be everywhere in the stores. I'd also like to see the updates on the shrimp hatchery's.
Hi Ive been keeping killifish on and off for 45 years keeping mostly annuals. The species you have can be stored in peat and hatch but they are more often water hatched in 2-3 weeks.Storing them for 1-2 months extra will not work esp the A.australe. Some of the gardeneri clan can be stored in peat for a while. The true annual killifish are Nothobranchius in Africa and the old name "Cynolebias"in South America which are now divided into lots of new genera usually ending in-lebias.The fish you have are not rare. Most months AI or Bayfish will stock them.I hope you were not ripped off paying lots for the eggs.
I wouldnt normally tout other youtubers channels, but Marks Aquatics has a great tell blue killfish breeding video. I fyou do end up watching it and learning, please point others to his videos, his work has been amazing, as has yours. Still cant believe you're 21/22 years old and already lightyears ahead of aquarists/fish keepers around the world!
I thought about doing this a year ago but the guaranteed hatch rate was so low that I didn’t think it would be worth the money, but after seeing this video I may start looking for eggs again
Honestly ive been looking for killifish egg hatching videos and yours is just top tier. The rest are long winded and the creators themselves lose interest i feel. Kudos and cant wait to see the adult fish!!!!
u r a very young breeder I ever seen..... thank you for providing the information about all the fishes and also how to breed them...... ❤❤ can you please suggest me some good plants for my aquarium..... it's about 20 gallons........ please
I'd also like to see some of your tips on dwarf chiclid rams ECT. They don't sell them anymore by us like they used to. But I was told they are hard to keep don't live long that's why they don't carry them. I was thinking that is more of a myth and just how they care for them during shipping.
My Nonthobrachius Rachovii I bread myself hatched literally within 20 minutes of touching the water! I could not believe it! These guys are ready to go hahaha
Just to correct you slightly, the blue steel and australe are not annuals. I'm a massive advocate of killifish. They are excellent fish and deserve far more exposure and popularity in the hobby. They are beautiful and really easy to keep.

Do you happen to have any for sale right now please? Been searching for ages!
Oh dear. So these may cross after he has managed so well. You are saying there will be problems keeping the strain now?
How do you struggle to tell the difference between a male and female guppy????
Normal Mollies are even distinguishable and they can be practically almost identical, but can still tell if it is male or female.

Oh it's killifish, I watch some videos of how to breed them recently. Really unique fish as how you need to incubate the egg out of water for like a month before it can hatch. I wish more people would get into Killifish. Very easy and rewarding fish.
hi Nick !
these killifish are not annual one ! this are non-annual killifish !
well at least for the australe and nigerianus that i breed, they can live up to 3 -4 years and the eggz incubation are lot shorter in time ( and they grow slower in general ) ! just so you have success breeding those amazing fish !
thank you for your videos im a big fan from france🇫🇷 and thanks to you now i have my little fishroom !

Killifish live longer in captivity due to the owners keeping tbem ina 'wet' situation....as they arent killed by the water drying up they carry on living
Just a quick note if you already don’t know, these are not true annual killifish. Their eggs hatch in only 3 weeks. These come from forest streams in Nigeria or Cameroon. True annuals come from East Africa in temporary pools that dry up. These are from the Genus Nothobranchius. Also you shouldn’t mix species as females are extremely hard to tell from each other.
Very nice 😄
Hello the water level should be 1 Inch from the bottom and not so deep so when the fry hatch will not be hard to them to get air from the surface,
i hatch them in small tabs like Butter tabs or Small Tupperware boxes or thevBottom of a Water Bottle,
the way i do is I cut the bottom of a Transparent 2.5 ltr bottle so the fry will not be hard to them to find food and light will penetrate in.
I have killis that is Some of my experience! 😀
Thks for sharing Good luck. 😉
Pretty cool dude
Have you got a link to where you brought them please!? In Australia also and been looking for some!!
Would you recommend a 75 gallon tank to start out breeding guppies and shrimp?
Im having trouble with getting to the safe zone with fry. I put them in a container like you did, and then usually 2-3 weeks i move them to a breeder net in a 10 gal with other juvenile honey guaramis.... so they dont get mistaken for BBS. But i seem to often lose them sound week 3. So i was wondering about your set up in the container ( tank water or new water? Filter? Air? Any tips are appreciated!! Thanks love the channel and good luck with the new store!!!
That’s so cool!
