Beautiful video of one of the greatest swingman (SG/SF) players, with that sweet jumper that Michael Jordan almost photo-copied! Davis had great instinct and handles, and could pass the ball. It is a shame that he doesn't get more credit. No wonder he is called the Greyhound, one of those naturals like Jordan, Gervin, Magic, Erving, and Alex English. His career was marred by drugs.
Chris Gabler I think if it wasn’t for drugs, he could have played till 1993. But I don’t think he was comfortable enough in the Phoenix community to do cybergenic fitness like many were doing back then and now.
I loved Walter Davis' game. He was as smooth a player that's ever played. Way overdue for the a Hall of Fame. Cocaine scandal that rocked the Suns probably hasn't helped
If you can consistently get your shot off against a PRIME Michael Cooper, you're somebody! Give it up to "The Greyhound", folks. Walter Davis, still the greatest Sun in franchise history... ;-)
@@Riles3152 Nah, it's still Davis for me. I saw all those players in their prime, Greyhound had the most complete game of the bunch and his mid-range shooting was virtually UNMATCHED. Cocaine scandal back in the mid-'80s was what wrecked his HOF chances, but he definitely should be in there regardless.
In case you wondered....The Suns win this game 126-121 to stay alive in this series....but would lose Game 6 in Phoenix 99-97 and LA advanced to the NBA Finals vs Boston only to lose to the Celtics in 7 games.
From what I understand, Walter had resigned with Denver just before Doug Moe was fired leading up to the 90-91 season. If he had known Moe was getting canned he would have signed with Chicago and won a championship alongside fellow Tar Heel Michael Jordan. Oh, what could have been with those two as teammates.
One of M.J's favorite players!
+DeeNice681 He was. A beautiful, smooth player to watch and behold.
Dr. J and Marques Johnson. Jordan liked the quick first step, leaping ability Game!
DeeNice681 Jordan took the the anthropological approach to his game. He copied a little of Davis, Phil Ford, and Dudley Bradley.
Jordan loved Skywalker Thompson and Walter Davis. Combined those 2 and you make Jordan. Truth!
@@panama8009with the hands!
How is this guy NOT IN THE HOF amazing against prime lakers outfit
Thank God he is now my man🙏... I just hate that he had to die first 😢
Most beautiful jump shot EVER!

The man with the velvet touch ☺
Smoothest jump shot of all time.
Suns was good that season 1983 1984 nance and davis
I'm mad they don't have footage of Walter Davis and Marques Johnson going at each other in the late 70s. One of the most fun rivalries ever!
Love his game, shame there isnt that much Walter Davis stuff on youtube. Thanks for the upload!
+saturndual32 Never seen a better shooter. He and Mark Price. Just a gorgeous player to watch, he and George Gervin.

Walter Davis should be in his rightful place ..... Hall of Fame

Charles Barkley, Steve Nash, Kevin Johnson, potentially Devin Booker?

@@PeekaPeepAnd, now, finally, he is!
Look who he's scoring on also! An and 1 on the greatest PG ever and nailing jumpers over Michael Cooper

i swear if you wanna learn about mid range shooting?....look no further than this man...the greyhound ☺
Damn, this was almost like watching a performance from MJ.

He was traded to Portland later that season, in a trade involving Drazen Petrovic in a multi team deal.
Against a prime COOPER , says it all
That jumper was fucking wet.
At the 3:27 second mark that shiot looked BEAUTIFUL 🖤🤘
For youngsters #6 was Michael Jordan before Jordan.
Great player, awesome shooter who would have been a legend if not for the drugs.
He is a legend....he only got caught with drugs twice😂
as it was later admitted by suns players john McLeod was drunk while coaching
You are a Fucking God sir!! I am forever loyal to you haha!!
RIP 😢
