Yea, I believe some of the quoted weight savings are also only on that package too. I think the other gt configuration still has rear speakers (and charge port?)
Road User Charges (RUC) has come in for EVs in NZ in the same way as we do for diesels. Lost of current EV owners were pro this even though it happened at same time as incentives stopped and all but stopped EV sales dead. If the future is EV we have to fund the roads somehow, and like you say, it’s a good thing when we see these things.
The EQS does look better, I do agree on that. It does have a sense of familiarity about it with that grill even though it is fake which I am not a fan of, but it does work on the EQS. It would be interesting to see the number of prospective S-Class buyers buy this because of the way it looks which may help buyers warm up to the EV version. Nice to see the ornament return on the EV version, it enhances its appeal. What do you reckon @EVNewsDaily? As always, great work!
Which BMW EV model has a limit of 5-DC fast charges and the 6th requires a 48 hr charging rest. I met a BMW owner at a charging station who claimed it was a requirement of his EV. You encounter that limitation on day 2 of any road trip.
Utilities need to use used car batteries for grid storage. They should make a deal with insurance companies to get all usable battery packs from totaled EVs. Recycling companies should do that also and create competition for used packs.
The China figures are interesting. Just returned from a work trip to Shanghai. The cars on the road are mostly EV's and I only saw EV scooters. The days of the petrol scooter have gone for them. The roads were so quiet. You can hear birdsong in the city. The other impressive thing was the air. I would never have believed that the first city I would visit with clean air would be in China.
As an EQS 580 owner, my preference is no fake grill. I want MB EVs to look and operate different from its gas equivalent. Please remove the unnecessary start/stop button. This EV desperately needs a frunk to bring home take-out food. The hatch-back trunk is open to vehicle’s interior so you smell food for the next 4 days. Walk-away locking of vehicle would be welcome too. On the positive side, 4-wheel steering and hyper screen are awesome.
Taycan won't out compete plaid on every track given that the track is longer than 20km or has a lot of straights due to the taycan not being built for sustained periods at high speed, taycan was engineered to take corners at $250k for 7 minutes, Plaid was designed to stay cool and go very fast for $110k, plaid uses carbon fiber motor and octobalve system, taycan uses carbon fiber tub and earo kit to stay ahead. they are not on the same enginnering level.
@rtfazeberdee3519 you think Porsche will post overheat data? Anyways it has track record of overheats, in 2020 2 taycans competed against model 3s at the Japanese EV priclx event. After 55km the taycans had to go into a thermal throttle which allowed multiple tesla model 3s to beat it on the long track. The driver for the taycan GT also mentioned that the taycan was hitting its thermal limit at the end of the nurbrgring running only 750HP. The tesla model s was also getting hot at the end of the nurburgring but it was pushing 1020HP for the race that lasted over 7 minutes. The taycan can only handle 1020HP in a 10 second burst and 1090 in 2 seconds. Part of the overheating issue is caused by their battery design. They use pouch cells stacked against eachother with only a single cooling plate, the pack is also insulated for the winter, cooling a pouch cell style pack from only 1 side is a very bad idea and I wonder who allowed this design to go through, tesla and rimac both use cooling methods on cylinder cells where they are cooled from 2 sides in order to give better long term prefomance. When both cars are running at 180mph, it's a completely difrent story on how much power is needed, the taycan will use far more energy to maintain 180mph than the plaid because the taycan is hitting the RPM limit of their motor (in the deep red line) while the plaid can still go another 3k RPMs and not be red lining as well as having an aero kit. A EV motor can lose 40% of its torque at max RPM, plaid motor was designed to only lose 10% at higher max RPM then traditional EV motors, that's like loosing 400HP on the taycan in torque and only 80HP on plaid.
@@miguellopez3392 Tech development moves on comparing 2020 to 2024 tech is risky, i remember when you had to preheat the Tesla S for only one sprint in Ludicrous mode and porsche could do multiple launches. Wait for the data rather than speculate thats why i wanted a link to your data to read
@rtfazeberdee3519 the technology difrence between 2020 and 2024 on EVs is almost non changed, only difrence now is the introduction of LFP, which doesn't resist overheating and has a lower energy density but better long term service life. You dont need to pre heat, thats if you want the absolute best run possible and the day is extra cold, you can run the car non pre heated and get almost the exact same times in the 1/4, the problem with the old model s is that it's cooling system was undersized for the power they where pushing, I literally kept saying if teslas doubled their heat exchanger size they would be able to do multiple runs like the taycan, then tesla did just that on the plaid model, which needed pre heating even more as the battery was pushing 20% more power in a slightly smaller size compared to ludicrous, but thankfully this means you can do a faster drag run at 20% battery on a plaid than the taycan could do at 100%, batteries loose significant voltage at 20% charge, like a 40% drop in peak power compared to 100% charge. So that data states old Porsche could only do 750HP peak, 650HP sustained, old plaid could do 830HP peak, 400HP sustained. New Porsche can do 1090HP peak, 780HP sustained, new plaid can do peak 1020HP, 1020HP sustained. That's the data showing a bottle neck in taycans development.
I like what Mercedes is doing with styling. EVs should not look weird like those BMWs with the baby blue strips and badges, don't do that. Also don't make the model names different than gas cars just go with what customers already know. The fact that it's an EV shouldn't be noticeable. If you want to know what it is look for tail pipes.
The tesla daily podcast is gone. There's a gap on the market. Maybe think about starting the show with a tesla segment and then the rest with time stamp or vice versa. Or do a stand alone.
Tesla doesn't warrent special news segment on this show. Already too much hype about every time that company's village idiot tweets. Electrified is an obscenely detailed daily luv-fest of everything Elon and Tesla. Rob Mauer finally saw that his pimping Elon was specious at best. Elon's antics draw rude responses. Apologies if you didn't expect that.

It's only the Weissach version that deletes the rear seat, on the Taycan Turbo GT. Non-Weissach includes rear seating.

Great video, great voice.
Come Mercedes, give this man an EV.

Another great one Marty. Are there any news on Ford bringing Rally version of Mach E

I love it! Too bad the 2024 EQE doesn't look like it...
Yikes that Alfa grille rivals BMW i4 beaver teeth for strong styling. Finally make everyone notice dragon eating human in their logo.

Ford, Porsche and BMW have all purchased Cybertrucks at around $250,000.

Is driving around with an ornament stuck on the bonnet a bit embarrasing these days? Seems a bit pretentious tbh.
