Ref PHEV - my arguement is that as Battery technology gets so much cheaper and volumetric power density rises then this means that BEVs will have those larger batteries ie 80+kWh that give you the range you want that charge very fast when needed and at cheaper so I'm still not keen on Hybrids no matter what as most of these people will not plug them in or simply wish they'd bought a BEV once they realise how much nicer the car is on electric power...
Great episode! Love the 'marketing' terms Brands are using to spice up the attractiveness and try to differentiate their models. On another note, going to be a big transition for mechanics/car service centres needing access to lots of specialist electronics specialists with significantly growing tech. Might be the end of the one man workshop for mainstream, will become dedicated to the fossil classics.
When Renault used GTX , GTL etc it was for slightly plusher trim. When Ford used these letters it was mainly trim too..performance variants used different nomenclature
12:00 as soon as PHEV will have reliable (all season) 50-60miles of range they could be the absolutely perfect main car. with more small cars coming to the market next year, this may be a great deal. 15:30 thank you for mentioning my comment :) and this is exactly what I had in mind. we have to be aware that 6.5sec for a minivan is VERY quick .... in 2024. but we will have more and more EV on the roads and suddenly the 'acceptable' 10sec 0-60 of regular buzz will be soon 'super slow'.
Martyn, this is a particularly rich video today 👍 ……. The ID. Buzz is going to be real hot here; do you know if they’ll produce it in the North American market, where it may qualify for the EV rebate?
Great news review as always, one nit-pick (and it is) Kyle had his own Ford drop at 6% cross country , I believe the test on the Ford was fine. Truck-stops need chargers where a driver can take a 15+ minute break and top a bit while he's off the clock.
27:00 I just had a chance to watch that comparison. I am sorry but efficiency cant be ignored. the difference of 2.6 (Rivian) and 2.0 (silverado) mi/kWh is MASSIVE.
It sure seems like all those automakers who said consumers don't want EV plan to make a lot of EVs. If they really believed their BS they would have let Tesla have the entire market.
3:30 They're never happy. People complain about every generation of everything BMW.......until 10 or 15 years later when they say they love it and have always loved it.

When I had my 2018 Volt I got 60-70 miles on the battery. In two years and 22,000 miles, I spent between $100-$150 on gas. A great car for a PHEV

Love your podcast on my commute, but happy to see the images via TH-cam on occasion. Keep up the good work!

No, VW announced that after considering making them at Chattanooga, production will remain in Germany. No tax credit unless you lease.

I hear ya!

Just need 4WD and ability to increase road clearance in ID Buzz.
Awesome as usual. Just a note, make sure you're using amps, kW & volts in the right places & not conflating them.
Oh. What did I say? When I’m recording and doing several things at once my brain->mouth connection can go wrong!

in german the 'e' on the end of a word is not silent.
noy-uh klass-uh?
@@EVNewsDailyyes, like Porsche. You pronounced that right.
Thank you!
It's so sad the ID. Buzz didn't look like the concept.
Martyn please detail UK/UK vs USA BEV sentiment adoption status
If you don't think there's any sense in a "sporty" ID.Buzz, bear in mind they were testing it at the Nürburgring.
Ah YES I remember that. Going to go and find it on TH-cam and watch it again now we know the specs,
I read that article about evs not being profitable. It was pure BS done by a hater with no knowledge of evs.
You got further than me! I have it saved for later reading, but even the headline looked suspicious.
