- In this video we take you through 10 things that we think you need to do in the few days leading up to your marathon. If any of these are overlooked it can spell disaster for your carefully laid-plans and hard-won fitness.
Don't let all that hard work end in marathon anguish for the sake of a 2-minute action that will ensure your marathon day runs smoothly.
We have been racing marathons since the late 1990s and have made and seen several mistakes over the years. So this is our list of 10 simple things you can get right in the final 72 pre-race hours to plan for success.
Best of luck both! We’ve really enjoyed the training videos and how you both seem to be in fantastic shape to take on Manchester. We’ll be tracking you throughout so go have a brilliant run and can’t wait to see how you get on 🏃🏼♀️🏃🏻♂️
Thanks both. Final thoughts and race strategy out tomorrow. Then all eyes on the big one. Walsall Arboretum park run 🙂
All the best and I'm sure you'll smash it.
Thanks Steve.

Good Luck to both of you !! Really good video. Almost makes me think about doing a marathon 😂
You would enjoy it and do well. 😁
Great hats. I have bought arm warmers hope to not need but Manchester weather might have other plans. Good luck to all
Yes it's marginal at present. I actually bought some from a stall 30 mins before Yorkshire Marathon. A good purchase as things turned out!
Good luck 👍
Thanks Ian. One mile at a time.
You both look in excellent condition, I think the main two tips are be happy joyful on the day knowing you’ve done the hard work in, & the mental mantra is so important, remember it’s a privilege & a pleasure to be able to run any marathon, keep on keeping on, 😂
Wise words, Reece
Good luck to you both. Really looking forward to seeing how you both get on. I've got the Reading Half on Sunday, so I'll be tracking you on the bus back to the car after the race!
Thanks! Good luck at Reading. Have you got a goal time in mind?
@@tworunningbrooms based on current fitness, sub 1:40 would be a good day. Sub 1:35 would be an excellent day. Conditions are looking good though and I know the course from last year, so looking forward to it!
@@IRunDaily Good luck
Thanks so much for all this information; just sitting at the airport in Zimbabwe going to Cape Town to run the 56k Two Oceans.

Good luck to you both John and Dawn😂
Thanks, Andrea! 👍
Useful stuff - got to work out how many gels I actually need. I took 7 on a 20 mile race and struggled near then end still. I just wish they did cost a ha'penny! All the best for Sunday!
Yes eye watering cost of marathon fuelling these days. Would love to get able to fuel on a 1/4 lb of wine gums.
Best of luck for Sunday.
Keep on keeping on…….
Thanks Paul
Wishing you a great race on Sunday guys!
Thanks Chloe
Hi John and Dawn. I love following your travels together and am constantly inspired by your love of the sport and determination to get the best out of yourselves. I have ambitions to race London marathon next year (2025) . Is there a "good for age" route to gain entry . I have no idea what events would offer this and when they are. My training is broadly aimed at an autumn event that could give me a GFA boost. Can you help regarding events/cut off date for gaining the GFA.
I run in the Weymouth area so would love to say hi next time you are down this way. Best regards Merv.
Thank you. We're in Weymouth/Dorchester a few times a year. 🙂
In terms of gaining GFA for London. The times needed to run are on the London Marathon website, and you really need to be inside those times. From our understanding, you would need to qualify for 2025 before the end of September, and unfortunately, most of the fast autumn marathons are after that. However, there are a few autodrome or airfield multi-lap marathons in September that some folk do to gain qualification times. As long the marathon has a UKA permit, race licence, and certificate of accuracy, it can be used for qualification.
