GMC Terrain wipers not working and TPMS repair and somebody "fixed" it after a fender bender

  • Today I will take you along as I repair one of my previous rebuilds. It is a 2015 GMC Terrain Denali. The wipers are not working and the TPMS light is on. I'll show you a cheap and even free way to get the wipers working. It also had a run in with another car and someone else fixed it and didn't do the best work so we will have a look at that as well. The wipers and TPMS for that matter will be the same for any 2010-2017 GMC terrain or Chevrolet Equinox.

I had an engineer from an unnamed manufacturer say they switched to plastic ball cups for when idiots try and scrape ice off thier windshield. But they are of course frozen in place and the motor binding the transmission breaks more stuff than the plastic cup.

Old wiper assemblies had metal bushes and clips. They lasted the life of the vehicle. Here we have another case of the good stuff being replaced by plastic, which is slowly taking over vehicle parts. Next thing, the entire vehicle (other than mechanical parts) will be plastic, probably 3D printed on a giant 3D printer.

When it comes to GM and recalls they are actually pretty good.
My mother-in-law had a 2000 Grand Am, she got a recall notice in I think 2018, but the car was scrapped in 2017 after the engine blew up with over 500,000 km on it, but even though the 3.8 was blown and knocking it still ran.

A recall notice for my 2015 Equinox for ball joint defect in the wiper module that" could result in the separation of one or more ball joints from their sockets during wiper operation." Like their air bag recalls there's no parts at this time for the fix.

In the interest of high quality work, the valve stem should have been changed as well. They are cheap insurance against a leaky valve stem and the whole assembly can be screwed together and pulled into place eliminating the chance of dropping the tiny screw in the tire. We also use small bolt cutters to cut off the sensor before pulling out the old stem. No lost T10 bits in Narnia that way.
