    Straight away, I'm so glad you mentioned how it's easy to cherry pick pictures to make one camera look better. That's such an important point. I've seen at least a dozen camera comparisons with the new iPhone; they are against the previous gen iPhone, S23 and Pixel 7 Pro mostly. Some channels have the iPhone winning big, and show a big improvement over the previous gen iPhone. Some show almost no difference between the previous gen iPhone and the new one (and I'm referring to the 15 Pro Max vs 14 Pro Max), and show that the S23 does better in most scenarios. I can't stand when a reviewer looks at the edge of a photo and says it is more blurred than the edge of the same photo from a different phone but does not mention the focus point; obviously if you're focusing on a closer subject there will be natural blur in the background compared to focusing on something that is further away, in which case everything will be in focus and sharper. Anyway, sorry for the tangent....just wanted to appreciate your comment since I have not heard anyone else mention that, and that has bugged me throughout the comparisons i have watched.

      Yep and that is why comparisons are pointless in a way. I have been using Oneplus 9 Pro for ages and I havent found a phone that could beat it. Sure I dont have huge zoom but I barely take zoom photos anyway. But I bet I could take better shots with OP9 pro than most people would get with Iphone 15 Pro. With every camera it is more what you shoot and how you shoot than just point and click. That is why I have never liked iPhone. On paper it might be good but the dullness and the lack of vibrance is just total no go for me. I like that the camera gives an artistic touch and not just clinical flat perspective.
      Also I like to take low light shots and well, every year I see iPhone shots in low light I am like meh nope fuck that. The photo you take should capture the moment and not just be technically flat perception of what the device see.
      And it was kinda funny when I had OP6 back in the day that was bashed in every youtube channel for shitty camera. My sister back then had iPhone 11 Pro and it was utterly bad compared to OP6. It was the point I realized that everything you see in youtube is not real. Hell that iphone 11 pro couldnt take a single picture in low light when that OP6 took sharp images even in almost no light at all. But it is all about who takes the picture.
      I am still waiting for comparison video where someone takes shots with both phones on same subject but from different angles and with different settings. I dont care to see how they take identical photos I want to see what is the BEST they can get in certain light, scenery and subject.

    • @21tmitch
      @21tmitch 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yesss! Also small differences in focus points, camera position and lighting all change the photos (or how the phones process the photos) Even taking photos at home trying to compare to phones I see how small things I do can change the photo on either phone. Comparisons like this aren't as helpful as I wish they were.

    Hi, thank you for a great comparison! Regarding the Software updates on a Galaxy, I experienced similar problem with my S22 Ultra when I bought it second hand. It had an old security update and it could not update automatically. I solved it with installing some of the Samsung app - I think it was Smart Switch on my PC. And then I connected the phone via cable to the PC, and I updated it with that app. Since then, the updates are happening automatically again.

    I have the iPhone 15 pro max, and thus far I’m not very impressed with the camera. It’s okay, but not as spectacular as I was expecting. Was taking some candid shots at a wedding and mostly all were not useable photos. Honestly find 5x range isn’t very common to use and would prefer to have better optical quality in that 3x-5x range. They screwed up not having a 3x lens in the pro max. For video it’s pretty good, just not for photos which is 90% of my use.

      Returned mine for this reason. I’m an eBay seller and it was un-usable for close up shots. Couldn’t even photograph a serial number or individual stones on a ring without blur and grain. A navy blue with crocodile texture bracelet for example looked jet black with zero texture. What would eBay customers think ?!!!I also shoot concerts from the front row. Every photo blurry . Also video footage…Microphones now too small and thin with aweful sound pickup. No proper focal lengths for stuff at an average distance so performers distort…went back to my iPhone 12 pro max so fast. They needs to add lenses and not take one away …degraded the quality and capacities as they all crop into each other. And don’t get me started on the ai tech in the photos filling in info , color, and noise reduction without consent ….last thing. Still makes me angry…I filmed a car meet and a drift race…15 pro max picked up audio of the cars engines and revving so bad it sounded tinny and thin…was too embarrassed to post..a total disgrace to those powerful cars engines and warping the shape of the cars!!!!

    One thing Apple got little credit for is, going from 12mp to 24mp required less 'pixel binning,' which means the effective size of the pixel capturing light is cut by half. Apple was able to make lower light photos actually look better in 24mp, with the ability to capture more light through the sensor, which is pretty cool (since now you have a sharper photo and more detail -- and that doesn't take up too much storage).

    • @dylan8389
      @dylan8389 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      There is actually the same amount of pixel binning, it still takes a 12mp pixel binned photo but it also takes a full 48mp photo and then combines the two to create a 24mp more detailed image.

Of the two,I'd pick the Samsung since I like the more versatile camera system (that 10x zoom is crazy, and Samsung is rumored to lose it in favor of a 5x on the S24 Ultra, so get it while you can!) and I much prefer Android to iOS.

      I agree about the Samsung 10x zoom. I have got photos that my Lumix compacts would only be capable of. The other mode I use sometimes is the 50mp mode. If I taking a view photo like ones I took from Alexander Palace in London, I use the 200mp for one general photo. I can crop in different areas of that one photo. Most times the standard 12.5mp is fine for most situations. As for the S24 rumours, if true about the 5x change, I would still go for the S23 Ultra which hopefully be cheaper when next models realise. The other rumour is the SoC - Exynos coming back!

Its undeniably good and rightly exposed and I have an S23 Ultra alright, but in such cases, i would just manually set the exposure lower which would fix this issue, but for auto its the iphone really. But for the photos, its a 50-50 and mostly for long range shots, even at 30x, samsung still really takes great photos at that, the 100x is shyte but more useful when trying to see from far away really, i mostly use it like a telescope at that range,haha. And for that with the great customizability available on an android, not overheating on heavy use, dex, etc. S23U it is still for me. But I do hope that the Samsung could already surpass apple in the video department alright next year, If they did, i would willingly upgrade again despite me initially planning to keep my s23u for 3-4yrs.

    Awesome video although felt kinda more rushed than usual. Nice of u stand up for Mr. Boss
    Scene optimizer off helps remove the oversaturtion and overbrightening on most photos.
    But still would agree iPhone does people and pets more accurately. Sammy better for scenes/landscapes with SO turned off. Also s23 low light is significantly better..even video which didn't expect.
    So easy choice...if u take most photos in great light or portrait iPhone has the edge. Lowlight photos or video Sammy has edge.
    Again with scene optimizer off you get much more natural shots and one step further download camera assistant in galaxy store and it integrates into photo app. Go into settings and then into camera assistant and Turn softening on medium or high to get much nicer softer unprocessed images.
    Anyways same story. Iphone come out ,does few things slightly better and now wait for s24 and back we go again.
    Appreciate the video. 👍

    What is actually strange is that on paper and the reviews, any phone can be made to look better than the other.
    However I have found in real life,
    When comparing the iPhone 15 pro Max and s23 ultra the screen on the Samsung has better colours and is sharper and clearer and better to look at.
    Same with the camera.
    The s23 takes better shots and are sharper.
    Videos I haven't really tested properly.
    The Samsung panel is also more responsive to touch.

    I'm surrpised by how much better, at least to my ears, the iPhone sounded over the S23 internal mic. Some really nice improvements to day time shooting for iPhone from my base 13 which I'm looking forward to. Samsungs tendency to oversaturate their images has always been an off putting "feature" for me, although there's no doubting the incredible performance of that 10x zoom lens, wow!
    It's a shame though that us iOS fans have to pick between the 3x and 5 zoom. 3x offers a really nice focal length for portraits but the 5x is really needed for any sort of distance photography. I'm an aviation nut, so I attend airshows quite frequently and it's always been frustrating not having a realiable zoom option for iPhone. Finally I'll be able to get nice quality photos of aircraft on the ramp or taxiway. The real test will be catching them in flight during a display, the lesser shutter lag on iPhone could make or break such shots.
    Excellent comparisson video as always Tom, looks like you had a lot of fun around London :).

    In regards to the shooting speed, I’m a bit bothered that you, like others on twitter mention the iPhone’s default shooting speed is much faster. On Samsung, there’s an option to take photos faster with a slight hit to quality which sounds like a poor tradeoff at first, until you realize that iPhone has the same setting except it is on by default. I don’t see anyone mention this, and if you turn off the degrading algorithm, its speed becomes very similar to the s23 ultra.
    It just feels disingenuous to not mention it when iPhone is always praised for speed.

Since there's not really any information on what it can do I tried it on my S9 Plus and in 10 seconds (which was the time he did his test in) it took the maximum of 100 photos. That is way more than the iPhone did. Obviously the normal camera won't be as fast because there's a feature literally made for that and it doesn't have to be.
