    I like both Adrian and Ron although I don't think Ron would be an easy person to work with (or get on with), but I still consider him one of of the last of the 'old-school' so he gets allowances for that.

      @@juancete0107 I've been following F1 since the late 70's and there's no doubt Dennis was inspirational in what drove that success at McLaren in the early to mid to late 80's, but remembering, it was only because of the shit-loads of money that eventuated at the time that cemented that inspiration and once he put the 'team' together (which also had a lot to do with John Barnard) it was really just his marketing and legacy relationships that allowed that success to continue. Then, and as a result of that success, every man and his dog wanted to get on the 'McLaren train'. Dennis definitely was not a good team manager (certainly not of people and not of drivers). That all played out when John Barnard left McLaren for Ferrari in 1986/87, with Steve Nichols also departing 2 years later (to Ferrari). Gordon Murray and Steve Nichols carrying the load after Barnard's departure, with a good stroke of fortune that Neil Oatley having just started at McLaren before Barnard left.
      I also think it was a slap in the face for Alain Prost who was the 'success' of McLaren in the formative years, only for Ron Dennis to allow that BS to happen with Senna, which of course, resulted in Prost also leaving the team (to Ferrari).
      it was only by pure fortune that McLaren won the constructors in 1991 (the unreliability of Williams being a key factor), and since winning the 1998 constructors (people forget that McLaren didn't actually win the 1999 constructors, while Hakkinen won the WDC), McLaren have not won a constructors since and while Hamilton won the WDC in 2008, we all know that was Massa's WDC no thanks to the brilliant driving (NOT) of Timo Glock ... how convenient. Dennis also treated Raikkonen like he was expendable, and yet what happened in his first year at Ferrari? And who was pivotal in the 1998/99 success? Adrian Newey ... if it wasn't for Newey joining McLaren in 1997 in another stroke of good fortune, McLaren would have been f#cked (of course, he only ended up at McLaren because of the BS that happened at Williams) and by the end of 2000 Newey already wanted to leave McLaren because of .... you guessed it, Ron Dennis.
      In conclusion, I liken Ron Dennis to a charismatic politician who had immense inspiration and drive, got a good team on board which also inspired other people to get on the 'train', but really it was the 'team' and continued and timely good fortune that really continued to drive that success, but eventually it was his own demise when people realised just how insular and selfish he was, how stubborn, demanding and non-agreeable he was. When it came to people, he was not dynamic, not changeable, and he simply relied on the same 'play book' as what drove that success in the 80's.
      How he departed, and was made to depart, McLaren is what's called Karma, and I thought it was hilarious when he found out Alonso would be rejoining McLaren in 2015 and there wasn't a damn thing he could do about it ... remembering, it was because of his pathetic team and driver management that lead to the BS that happened in 2007.
      I, and many people in F1 (even within McLaren) were glad to see him go ... and in the way he did.

      @@Mpayne1472 Get out of here. Obsessed with getting the team back to winning ways, surely it's not about that! It's because of Dennis why McLaren lost its winning ways. From John Barnard to Adrian Newey, they all quickly came to realise how much of a d!ck he was and took their skills elsewhere. When you say 'diversify', I ask "diversify to what"? No-one wanted to work with him so he would have only be diversifying to second-grade talent.

      @Faults Newey was a designer at Williams, not a technician, and therefore it wasn’t him who welded the extended section of the steering column although he did authorise it along with Patrick Head. After 11 years of trials and investigations in Italy, Newey was acquitted and Head was found responsible but this is after 3 trials and no one will ever know the exact cause, as the crash also points to driver error as the cause.

    • @T0FFII
      @T0FFII 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Faults Listen yea whether it was a mechanical issue or not, Ayrton died because of a impact to the head which was so precise that if it'd hit a inch higher or lower, he'd of walked away from that crash. It wasn't Newey's direct fault.

      Renault have offered him a lot of money, and he is interested, so it must be a LOT of money. Makes sense too, an engine he has been working with for years, people in Renault he knows, obviously relationship with Danny, and the chance to bring the 4th best car up to the front.

      I disagree. Newey seems a man that likes a challenge and has simply been evolving/refining the RB chassis year over year. Under the right circumstances I'm sure he'd love to go back to McLaren and revamp their design to bring them back into fighting condition. The previous MP(X)-* iterations of McLaren were the best under his design.

      The cars weren't really his mistake wholly, Mclaren had implemented a complex system of management which reduced newey's power and made him not only uncomfortable but also demotivated him as his ideas were stifled. Furthermore the environment at mclaren was so sterile it reduced his creativity and this reputation lasted for many years.
