This is the way the BBC likes it. They train you and me to interrupt each other to perpetuate the shitshow of life. Interrupting your guest and guiding the conversation the way you want it is exactly what the BBC is looking for. That's why they pay this guy. The BBC don't give a fuck about Ron Dennis. Just your license fee.
Ron Dennis is simply a phenomenal guy. I could sit hours listening to him, talking about past F1 happenings, Prost & Senna feud, Mosley's scheming, Todt/Schumacher/Brawn, etc.
Don’t worry, out of Dennis and Mosley one will be known as one of if not the best team principal in F1 history, the other will be known for a N@zi s*x scandal in 2008.
Ron is a living legend. I worked at McLaren when Ron was ousted. Although he ran it with an iron fist he was damn good at it. The place went to the gutter when he was gone.
not really driven by money i remember lewis hamilton at wigan 3 sisters young kids better than lewis couldnt compete because they never had a 40 ton truck with chassis hanging multiple mechanics ,they were racing against father and sons with one set of tyres for the weekend dennis and his boys had them stacked . ron dennis saw a gap for a person a certain person to put under his wing being a business man he saw the growing acceptance and jumped on it .
I listened to a long recording of Ron discussing his F1 history. It was fascinating listening to him speak. Thankfully, no interviewer there to interrupt him.
Ron Dennis did very well to retain his gentlemanly demeanor under some unnecessarily blunt interviewing techniques. What a great example of an otherwise maverick outlier rendered brilliant by leveraging both strengths and weaknesses into a wonderfully purpose-driven dovetail!
Ron Dennis tried to tell very interesting stories but was constantly interrupted. I’d love to see an interview conducted by someone prepared to listen to the answers.

Great man. A leader in an era where respect was earned, hard word rewarded and peoples integrity meant something. Nowadays we're in a world full of "grifters", "fake it til u make it"and snake oil salesmen, Ron always told it like it is. I respect that. 👍
It would have been great for Ron Dennis to be given the opportunity to complete his responses to questions, instead of being cut off, in order for the hosts' thesis to remain intact. As a long time follower of F1, I would appreciate a longer version of this interview.
Fascinating and enjoyable interview. I feel that Mr Dennis put across the points which he wished to convey - notwithstanding the typical 'Hardtalk' style of interview.
Holy sh*t…, i did not know that Ron took Bernie and Max to Court and they ruled in favour of Ron. That Spygate outcome makes a whole lot more sense now… 18:20
Ron is a blessing, a ruthless businessmen and competitor but still retained a very human touch in how he dealt with people his whole career. A very worthy example.
Great interview and the last comments meant a lot to me as a professional skier who crashed in racing and was injured badly in circumstances which should not and are not allowed in current skiing sport.
Insightful. Ron came across well and although it only scratched the surface on the key topics in the time available there were some fascinating insights into his battles with other senior figure in f1.
I had the privilege of being taken around the Woking facility just after it was completed. It was to this day one of the most impressive buildings I’ve ever seen. He had the most amazing vision of where he wanted the company to be. Truly one of the best all time F1 bosses.
McLaren has never been the same since Ron left. I've always been a big McLaren fan but not so much since he moved on. I miss seeing him at the various tracks. Oh, and I hate it when interviewers don't allow someone to finish what they're saying even though it HARDtalk.
I miss Ron in the paddock. Pulling the head phones of Alonso's trainer after Hungary 2007, classic! The man was controversial but an amazing character!
Immediately noticed his speech impairment at the beginning. With age, mobility issues can unfortunately be evident. In due respect to the legacy of the man who changed F1 during the 80s and gave Ayrton Senna the opportunity to win championships, instead of single races! I wish him all the best in the future and will not forget what an incredible mastermind and businessman Sir Ron Dennis was and the face of F1 😢
Yes he helped build McLaren in 1980s to 2008s but he and Martin Whitmarsh also helped ruin it with. Losing falling out with Mercedes , not getting on with Honda the second time around and not replacing big sponsors . McLaren was in a mess when Ron was ousted and Zak Brown took over
He handled the difficult questions well. And I know it's impossible to know for sure but to me he always throughout his career and in this interview came across as sincere
Way too much interruptions. Let the man speak. Ron is a fascinating man and he's very direct and concise. I was a big Mclaren fan back in the 80s and 90s.
McLaren cars would in my opinion have a much better reputation if Ron had stayed in charge. So considered so analytical so calm it’s easy to see why he was so successful.
20:22 In Ron's mind, he had wanted to ensure the longevity of the company through road cars and automotive R&D and not just winning races. The shareholders wanted to just race
What a terrible interviewer. Just no clue how to read the room and constantly interrupting. What a missed opportunity for what could have been a much better interview.
Ron - Sir RON , no less ! sad that he interviewer had no knowledge, of the sport or RON! He is a LEGEND! a driving force beyond measure ! this was a wasted opportunity, had say Martin Brundle interviewed him , we would see a real life and corporate story ! HARDTALK ............... well it was?

To everyone complaining about the interviewer: This is literally how HardTalk is, a lot of questions with the interviewer probing for answers nearly all the time.
Watch Hardtalk quite a bit and Sackur is a great interviewer. It's a little different when he is interviewing someone you find eminently interesting though.
I was so crazy back then that I thought that Ron Dennis owned the entirety of McLaren. All that was in my mind was..., Ron Dennis, Mika Hakiknen and Adrian Newey, FOREVER. Miss those days. Miss you Ron.
You constantly talked over Ron and refused to let him finish his statements. You had the opportunity to lean so much from Ron about the innermost workings of McLaren. You blew that interview. Ted
How does one get a job at the BBC interviewing a variety of people? By being a terrible interviewer, apparently. I'd heard good things about this show but if this is the quality, it's terrible. Us regular folk would be fired for being so incompetent. Ron would have never hired him in the first place.
A great man. Alonzo behaviour whilst with McLaren disrespected both Ron and the team out of petulence. Lewis at 10 went to Ron and they made a commitment which Ron kept years later once Lewis has achieved. Everything else is history. Love him or not, like with everything else, credit must be given where due. Ron also knew the value of of his designer Adrian Newey and did everything to try and keep him at McLaren. The sport would do well to have someone of Ron's ilk in it. Again, great man. Host needs to relearn how to do his job. Interrupting is not hard talk, anyone can interrupt. Agree with many of the other comments here - NONE of us clicked on this interview to hear Steven Sackur talking! "Sorry to interrupt...". DON'T, then! The very best interviewers realise and develop a very skilful technique of letting the interviewee do most of the talking - demonstrating respect for the subject. Yes, Dennis can be accused of pomposity and conceit - but, he does not waffle in conversation, is blazingly intelligent, ruthless in action, and a properly great and unique character - the like of which we are, sadly, likely to see less and less of into the future of (especially) F1. And - what he has to say is always well worth listening to.
