    Can't believe you'd forget about Morbius, the most important vampire of all

      I didnt forget him. He is simply too powerful to be contained to my small video.

    Really appreciate your mention of the original I am legend, the intelligent monsters in the book who can communicate and even the women trying to tempt Neville out of his house every night are scarier than the big mouth cgi monsters in the 2007 movie (also the movie ending destroys the entire meaning of the original work, right down to its title lol)

      Oh yeah the movie ruins the book. I'm glad you appreciate the mention, I try to keep my sources varied so I don't miss anything super cool.

    This is an excellent primer on the modern zeitgeist of the concept of vampires agnostic of the reason one stumbles upon it.

    what about the ones that go "Bleh Ble-Bleeh"??

    • @kid9893
      @kid9893  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All vampires do that. Don't you remember in twilight when Edward looked into Bella's eyes and said "Bella you bleh ble-bleeh me."

    It would have been cool to hear more about Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu, but really good video!

    Looking good, Kid. This was a fun topic to explore, despite me being utterly sick of vampire media. In my mind, vampires have already peaked in all forms of media. Strahd is the greatest fantasy vampire, while Interview With a Vampire and True Blood have pretty much taken the modern day vampire as far as it needs to go.

      I agree that it feels like vampires have been mostly explored by media. Yet there is something persistent about vampires that keeps drawing us back to them. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

      Dio orders of magnitude better at the Dracula type than Strahd, imo.

    While this does not get so much into the modern fiction of them, this is a fairly comprehensive study into the development and origins of vampires writ large. th-cam.com/video/pL8IeOtzLzk/w-d-xo.html
    That said, I think that vampires are a closely related trope to ogres-large and strong humanoids who eat human meat, blood, or spiritual essence, often with magical abilities, and sometimes deathly or undead spirits. Where one ends and the other begins is often nebulous, and vampires are mostly a more extreme version of the concept. Rakshasa are mostly an Indian localization of the same idea of powerful humanoid man-eaters as well.

      I would agree ogres are related to Rakshasas more but I think vampires are different. Vampires are more tales to warn women from wandering off with a strange man who visits their village. They are called "blue beard" stories by some mythologists.
