    Thank you for this! As a biologist/conservationalist, it makes me really excited to see individuals taking their own initiatives to help out the environment. I know you’ve specifically pointed out in the past when you’re working with endangered and critically endangered species in the past, and I find that to be so inspiring on many levels. Decreasing reliance on wild stock by captive breeding not only preserves the natural environment, but when the fish become widespread enough through a hobby such as this there is a real possibility of re-introduction into the wild by professionals from private collections. Captive breeding is so important if we want to have a hobby that remains sustainable. Also, Happy Birthday!

    Rachel, I saw that you didn't want to look at the comments on your other video released recently on this tank... I'm so sorry. I know how this feels. But please don't give up, you've given myself and so many others so much inspiration and knowledge in this amazing hobby. It wouldn't feel right if you weren't apart of it anymore.
    Stay awesome 🙂

    Your tank look very good.
    You won't have any trouble with the weight of the rocks.
    I have 260 pounds of limestones on light diffuser in my 75g Mbuna tank and it's fine.
    My trick to clean the mess between the rocks without removing them all the time is to blow water on them with a pond pump that I also use to do my water changes.
    I can't wait to find out which fish your going to keep in this tank!
    Happy birthday!

    This is exactly what I am trying to do with the Multies tank I'm setting up! Still in the gathering rock stage. Didn't realize other types of shells might work well...I'll have to look into it.
    Can't wait to see this tank unfold. Might find more ideas to implement besides different shells! Will check out your friend's videos for aesthetic inspiration as well.

    Hi Rach, happy birthday and glad to see you giving some love to Tanganyikans! Given the shells and rocks I can imagine some directions you are likely going (gold ocellatus, perhaps, to go with your multis?) complemented by some rockdwellers, but I can't help put in a word for a few of my favorites. One you could actually do in there would be a goby cichlid. I used to have Tanganicodus irsacae, and they bred for me and are really fun, rock-hopping characters, and less shy that some others I had (like A. calvus). I also really enjoyed xenotilapia and enantiopus sp., though you would want lots of sand for them to play in. If you are enjoying the cyprichromis leptosoma you might consider some cyprichromis microlepidotus if you still have some open water. I had the bulu point variety for a few years and they were larger and really stunning, and generally peaceful. Anyway, lots of cool fish to choose from--will vicariously enjoy whatever you pick!

    • @RachelOLeary
      @RachelOLeary  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      it is rumored that they are afraid of heights, so most folks recommend putting the shells on a plate over of a bucket of water. Supposedly the fish will leave the shell and jump backk into the water, though I have not tested this (yet, though plan to)
