    I find Altolamprologus sp. 'compressiceps shell' to be a universal tank mate of shelldwellers, no matter the size of your aquarium. In the wild, they live in the vicinity of shelldwellers or directly inside colonies providing additional help in defense against other predators in exchange for some fry once a while. Super interesting looks and behavior, highly adaptable and built to tank any attacks of similarly-sized fish. Highly recommended :-)

    First time I've seen the Cyprichromis, those look great. I am wanting to add more of an upper area fish to my multi tank and will look into those.

    Thanks Jason! My multis need some predation ;) Started with a 20 long and now have a 20 long AND a 40 breeder and they still keep coming!!! I guess there is more than one reason they are called multis!!

    After 6 years in the hobby. I'm just getting into cichlids, with 7 angels, 6 electric blue acara, and a geophagus tapajo in my 100 gallon community tank. I'll have an EBA or Tapajo in all my community tanks from now on!! Gorgeous alert fish that never see the coryadora that's about to bounce off their head. I'm not sure I want to build a tank without corys and loaches. These shell dwellers are adorable, but I still have apistos, kribs, and rams to explore, and they all go with my community tanks. This is an entirely different branch of the hobby! They sound like 1.5 inch murder machines.

    My 20 long Simili tank has mystery snails in it. They don't seem to have any issues. I see them moving the little pond slug snails that came in on the plants around, but they just pick them up and move them then spit them out. I do have some shrimp in it also but they will attack them. I have rock work and guppy grass that they can hide in but if they get near a shell it's game over. I won't put any more shrimp in.
    I'll be moving them to a 60 breeder this month, along with some Julies and Cyprichromis that I'll be picking up at the next green water swap. See you guys then Jason.

    Yes, goofy is understated!! I thought they were creepy before I got them but after I got some I now find them fascinating 😊😊. You are correct though as you once said: keep the lid on tight! They will escape! I love the magenta/purple colored ones

      @meganschroeder7723 ปีที่แล้ว

      What size was your tank? I'm trying to do that right now with a 55 gallon. Since the Brichardi have been breeding in there for a while, the shell dwellers are having a rough time since I just added them.

    I have a group of Telmatochromis temporalis “shell” they are pretty cool like a dwarf buffalo cichlid that just happens to be a shell dweller only gets 2-2.5 inches. They hold their own though, have them with a group of Turkana Jewel Cichlids. The Turkana’s are double the size, but they keep them in check.

    I actually keep a rainbow shark with my tanganyikan cichlids (3 transcriptus, 4 lelupi, 1 gold faced compressiceps) in a 40g and they get along fine. They just need a territory and some caves to hide in when they get chased.

    My 100cm/ 180 Liter Tank is in the Run in Phase at the Moment, hope nitrite is next week below enough and then i put a pair of Julidochromis transcriptus and six Neolamprologus multifasciatus in, i am really excited, its my first aquarium since over 20years.
    I also watched for Synodontis lucipinnis or Cyprichromis/Paracyprichromis but i afraid that the tank is too small...

    I have multi’s 4 of them in a 20 gallon long, with one golden wonder killifish up top they get along fine, I was wondering if there’s any invertebrates that I can put in that will leave the eggs and fry alone , But also eat algae off the shells and sand is there any?

    🤔 I've got a established 10 gallon tank but recently lost 2 fish in less than a month . Water levels are fine but I was thinking of cleaning it adding more sand and clean rocks and wood in case of koodies .🤔 I'm also probably going to pull the live plants out and go all silk with thse BIO ORB Silk plants i bought .🌿🌱 My live plants just don't do well in my tank 😕. Should I do this and how big of a water change should I do 50-75% I'm not sure . All I have is small tetras and a couple Cory's. Let me know if you have any input . Thanks 🤗

    Funny bc I had mystery and nerites with a multi colony no problems. But they absolutely detested the bristlenose and even bit off one of its anal fins. 😢 I even had SAE to control my BBA. The most interesting thing was seeing the border battles between the leleupi and multis. 😂

    Do you think gobies and loaches would match with shell dwellers? They all hang around the bottom though

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably not - the shell dwellers don’t like anything sharing the bottom of the tank with them.

    What are the downsides to hybrid shell dwellers? And although it wouldn't look natural, would there be a downside to using a fun color sand? Blue or green?

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The sand color doesn’t really matter. The downside to the hybrids is once shell dwellers really start breeding you can get a lot of them. At that point the excess fish probably need to be moved to someone else and spreading the hybrids around isn’t a great idea?

    I'm in the process of stocking a 60b Tanganyika community tank. I recently added a trio of caudopunctatus to the mix. The caudos don't seem to get along with the Similis too well. Thoughts?
