The goal was sub5'50", in this video there were 2 major mistakes that prevented the sub6'10" (3:57 and 5:17) but dealing with both RNG of the monster and the RNG of the helmbreaker's hitbox it became impossible for me. I won't lose my mental sanity and my time because Capcom adds delayed hitbox mechanics (ISS and HB) they can't evidently manage. I'll reach my goal if Capcom will ever consider to fix this shit. So is the glitch then because the hitbox from HB comes a little after you actually do the attack so if you use HB and the monster moves another part of it's body into the lingering hitbox then that part takes some of the HB damage?

Based on the position, it almost looks like the hit box clipped the chest spikes while falling, but maybe it has something to do with the player's position, since all the 'failed' hits have the player a lot closer to Ala's neck than the rest, and the hitbox is checking near the hilt? I dunno, I'm not an LS main and this is the first I've heard of this, but maybe
@@thechilzer7803 It doesn't make sense sometimes. You can even see it in this video on the second example where the grey hits are actually behind him. Logical thinking would have you believe the way it works is the hitbox for helmbreaker is vertical since it's a falling attack, but sometimes the actual hits are landing on a horizontal line.

Tbh solo is the way to go for alatreon if you don't have friends to play with. You don't have to rely on randoms to bring the right element, if any element at all (some idiots still try to bring in their blast shit) and getting the ele topples is easier too imo.
Chuan Li I think what he meant was it’ll be what you would normally get when doing all the little slashes added up, the problem with that would be the first hit of helm would wake the monster and the ultra one hit helm breaker wouldn’t get the sleeping hit multiplier while the GS does, theoretically giving it the bigger damage
It will only work of the attack is always a critical because if the monster moves while you’re doing HB and hit a hard part, you just wasted your meter for very little damage. Interestingly enough, I don’t think I have had that bug shown in the video.

the case at 7:15 where the wing is clipped seems to suggest it's to do with a giant hitbox they put on the move to make sure it lands. All the hits are to close bodyparts like the neck. I'm guessing it's not an alatreon specific issue, though maybe the position of his head compared to his neck worsens it. they're at about the same height when helmsplitter lands, maybe neck a bit higher sometimes. Essentially it's not a bug but a bad hitbox
they could have had multiple hitboxes... a tight one, which gets checked first to get precise hits, then a slightly less tight one etc. it's not even hard to implement, maybe 30 mins of work (plus a whole lot of testing ofc)
that also happens to me, especially when ur hunting a monster with wings and u wantt to hit the front legs, some of the damage goes to the wings instead of the front legs
I personally am my own "speedrunner" (13 minutes is the fastest I can do LMAO this is just for fun) but I can understand how those damage numbers mean SO MUCH to making sure you get the fastest time possible. Those hits to the neck despite a clear slash to the head make absolutely no sense.
I am a LS Player and I know this well. Every time soloing Alatreon, this will happen it feels so bad when they released the message that LS had been fixed but it still have some problem like this and so "DEAR CAPCOM” (I'm from Malaysia, my english sucks)

What I enjoyed most was your ability to evade so many attacks. As a Switch Axe main, the ability to avoid attacks is a key element in being a successful hunter especially with how immobile my weapon is.
This hunt was very satisfying. I can see the hitbox issue and was surprised Capcom didn't fix that issue (or did they later on ?) I still can't beat it with longsword, but it makes me want to give it another shot at the dragon chicken.
Most of the moves you pull off are pure bullshit like im 100% sure i can never pull it off. And that ending combo is just fuckin gold. Nice Run man, mad respect.

We literally just failed an alatreon because my helm breaker damage all went to his neck and chest for crap damage despite my sword quite literally clipping through the tip of his stupid head. He then proceeded to get enraged and fly until it was to late. If fatalis has some ridiculous damage check too I'm alt f4ing and going to bed.

I think its not the problem of SHB's hitbox, it's about the hitbox of Alatreon's chest. Hope crapcom will fix it. (the reason of 7:21 is because 7:03, once you press the button, the hit box starting from when the player character pulls the sword backward in preparation for the swing, and continues to be active for a short period even after the character has landed. Which MoonBunnie's document about SHB state it very clearly)
It very clearly looks like some hits in the drop are hitting spots the rise would create even if the timeline of hits is different (looks like those odd hits are the 5th or sixth?) So starting SHB behind the monster in its forearm-pit looks to be part of the problem. Fault nonwithstanding. I believe SHB should be explained in detail by capcom or some sort of hotfix be applied at a later date. I feel for LS but there are other weapons that could really use the attention.

At some point after Iceborne began, I stopped using the helmsplitter. I was just way too irritated that it didn't work properly and the problem was never adressed. I used it again on Fatalis, but had a whole other problem. The slash hit the head, the efx triggered. Nothing. No damage at all. A perfectly timed helmsplitter with no reward and a wasted bar. It is truly sad and it feels even worse here. You have such beautiful, elegant gameplay and those helmsplitters were perfect. At least we had the Iai spirit slash as another big damage move. Let's see how it will be in rise.
I swear, it almost feels like the HB hits are reorienting according to the camera somehow. Like, when rotating to see Alatreon from the front, because the HB downward trust intersects the rest of his body's LOS, it somehow reacts to that...
I think you might be right I once landed a full damage helmbreaker on lunastra's head despite me completely missing the camera was in a weird postion too. Yet there are times where I land it properly and damage gets skewed like in the video.

Weapon attacks that are only one move but have multiple damage numbers (like helm breaker, wyverns fire, Iai spirit slash, etc.) should be changed to just have one big number imo
I saw someone make this same argument further up, and at first I agreed, until I saw the counterargument. The counterpoint to that is this: What if for some reason the monster turns, or does a slight movement, and then that Helmbreaker that was meant to hit the head for 1000 combined damage, now hits its resistant wing for only 200? You essentially just wasted your entire big, damaging move to only get a fifth of the damage. The multiple damage numbers are overall a better way to implement it. I'm entirely sure that Capcom had the same idea when they were coding in Helmbreaker. They probably just found that the chance of wasting all of your damage on a target that got blocked in a manner that was out of your control to be...well, a bit lame, and unfun for the player. Still, the fact that what should be a straight, vertical hitbox can miss and hit other areas like in the video is an incredibly frustrating thing to deal with.
Speedrunning for such low times needs incredible rng. Still, a world record is incredible! Tbh I think the helmbreakers would have landed more consistently if you execute them completely perpendicular to Alatreon's head, though delayed hitboxes are not nice.
I've hunted Alatreon 100 times with LS, this shit has occurred in every single hunt I've done, it doesn't matter how accurate you land it. This problem needs to be fixed, but I think it is too late.
That one proc you got on the tip of the wing looks valid considering your weapon did clip through his wing before he moved it back at the beginning of the helm splitter. Looks more like hitbox porn instead of just a bad hitbox. The neck procs though are completely BS
not a hitbox problem. HB is just long continues damage and it must go somewhere. since there is not enought spot for the head to continue smaller slash of Helmbreaker and instead of stoping the damage completely it runs to the neck at certain angle.

so whats ur prefered or the best build for LS? i keep going for crit and atk both around lvl 6 and then either one or the other is at 7. also what food atk buff / drink are u using ? you doing 190 - 210 damage then to around 280 - 310 just hitting weak spots is soo broken even i dont get that high. also im not using any buff what so ever other then from the food of course.

I finally got my first solo last night after who knows how many attempts. You can do it, I guarantee.

I've yet to solo him. Mostly because he starts playing a bullshit keep away game once he gets close to a element damage cap being met.

Nice run I never knew LS I frames were so insane that an attack could move your character model like that w/o dmgs

I've never understood why helmsplitter gives multiple hits rather than just one big hit. It's one strike.

When you flinch a monster, it starts drooling and gives you an opening.
Clutch Clawing to it resets the timer, giving you a bigger opening.

Tbh I think the helmbreakers would have landed more consistently if you execute them completely perpendicular to Alatreon's head, though delayed hitboxes are not nice.
Nah it straight up doesnt matter. I've done the same and it somehow hits the wing.
I've hunted Alatreon 100 times with LS, this shit has occurred in every single hunt I've done, it doesn't matter how accurate you land it. This problem needs to be fixed, but I think it is too late.

The helmsplitter damage hitbox stuff is RIDICULOUS. Your blad isn't ANYWHERE CLOSE to hitting ANYTHING BUT the head.

That one proc you got on the tip of the wing looks valid considering your weapon did clip through his wing before he moved it back at the beginning of the helm splitter. Looks more like hitbox porn instead of just a bad hitbox. The neck procs though are completely BS
Imagine being more concerned with a hit box on your character than fighting a monster that's literally stated to be a bringer of destruction
not a hitbox problem. HB is just long continues damage and it must go somewhere. since there is not enought spot for the head to continue smaller slash of Helmbreaker and instead of stoping the damage completely it runs to the neck at certain angle.

@@captainace1277 Well, from the release date elemental damage acts a bit weird in this game, like it's just an addiction. I think Crapcom could rework a little on how the elemental damage works.
@@namisauce9826 actually you would set it to 1.5 not 5 times since the hits only do 30% element for some reason just like the bows dragon piercer.
@@procow2274 yeah. its already quite hard to hit weak spots with HB with all the inconsistencies, plus a shitty multiplier. ngl im already having troubles hitting weak spots with HB cause the monsters keep moving an inch away

so whats ur prefered or the best build for LS? i keep going for crit and atk both around lvl 6 and then either one or the other is at 7. also what food atk buff / drink are u using ? you doing 190 - 210 damage then to around 280 - 310 just hitting weak spots is soo broken even i dont get that high. also im not using any buff what so ever other then from the food of course.
